However, HideMyAss claim on their home page:
In this day and age of hackers, censorship, online identity theft, people spying and monitoring your online activities, your online privacy has never been so important. Spotify Now Requires Facebook Log In for New Users
Like UnlikeSpotify has been pulling in new users by the boatload since it appeared in America a few months ago. The announcement last week that the music streaming service was being integrated with Facebook will likely serve to swell its ranks even more. New users that hit the Spotify sign up page are now confronted by a message informing them they must either sign in with Facebook, or create a Facebook account. A Spotify employee posted to a heated Get Satisfaction thread today to expand on the new policy. Yes, new users have to sign in with ...

Apple: Samsung cheated in 3G standardization
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Apple has accused Samsung of manipulating open telecom standards, failing to disclose patents the company holds on technologies it pushed the ETSI to adopt, and then attempting to hold Apple and others to ransom afterwards. Presenting its case at the preliminary Hague hearing this morning, Apple claims Samsung engineered the 3G standard so that it would include technologies the Korean company secretly held patents on, reports Webwereld‘s Andreas Udo de Haes, and is now demanding “simply excessive” royalties amounting to 2.4-percent of the chip price for every patent.

San Diego Supercomputer Center launches world's largest academic cloud storage system
Like UnlikeA new cloud storage system may not exactly be big news these days, but it is certainly a bit more noteworthy when it's the San Diego Supercomputer Center (or SDSC) behind it. That new service, simply dubbed the SDSC Cloud, also isn't your ordinary cloud storage system -- it's designed specifically for academic and research use, and it's said to be the largest of its kind in the world. That title comes from an initial raw capacity of 5.5 petabytes, which the SDSC notes is scalable by "orders of magnitude to hundreds of petabytes," and which is accessible at sustained read speeds from 8 to 10 gigabytes per second (also promised to be improved over time). Those interested in signing up can do s...

Apple rumored readying curved glass iOS devices for 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Corning’s Gorilla glass can be found in a bunch of the most popular smartphones and other portable devices on the market today. Gorilla Glass is much stronger than normal glass and allows devices like the iPhone and others to survive drops without damage more often than normal glass. Back at Computex 2011 Corning was showing off curved Gorilla Glass that could be used in future smartphones.
Industry sources cited by DigiTimes are now claiming that in the first half of 2012 that curved glass will be very popular with device manufactures outside of Apple. Apple likes its flat and thin designs. The sources say that makers are getting ready to release multiple devices using the curved glass in a...

Olympus: Why PEN is mightier than the Nikon 1
Like UnlikeFiled in: OlympusNikon
Olympus has spoken out about the new Nikon 1 system, introduced last week as a rival to existing compact system cameras such as the PEN range of micro four thirds cameras.
In an exclusive interview with TechRadar, Mark Thackara, national marketing manager, consumer products for Olympus UK spoke to us about market reaction to the new cameras.
The Olympus PEN was one of the first compact system cameras to come to market, sharing the same micro four thirds system as the Panasonic G1 which was announced a few months previously.
Since the launch of the first PEN back in 2009, the E-P1, several different versions of the PEN range have been launched, with the current line-up including the PEN E-P3,...

Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and two new Galaxy Players
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 8.9
Samsung continues to build out its Galaxy family with the announcement of the Galaxy Tab 8.9, and Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0. We’ve been waiting on the 8.9 to debut for some time now, but we’re certainly glad to see Samsung finally bringing its media players to the U.S.
At this point in the game, Samsung is clearly the most successful Android player today. With its ever-growing Galaxy line of phones, tablets, and now media players, Samsung alone has been able to create a real brand behind the Android name unlike any other manufacturer today. That said, these efforts are also an attempt to take a bite out of Apple’s success. Sure, call the players (and every other Android tablet for that matte...

Amazon to reveal 'Kindle Fire' Android tablet on Wednesday
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAmazonKindle Fire
Amazon will unveil its Android-powered “Kindle Fire” tablet on Wednesday during a press event in New York City. The Kindle Fire will begin to ship during the second week of November and, with a similar-sized 7-inch screen, the device looks very much like the BlackBerry PlayBook according to reports. GDGT explained that the device was built by Quanta, the same manufacturer that built the PlayBook, and the firm played a big role in designing each of the slates. While recent leaks have created a lot of buzz about the potential tablet, GDGT suggested the tablet might not be that exciting. Reportedly the Kindle Fire is “pretty poor” and was rushed out the door so that Amazon had a product on stor...
