Feds investigating Motorola Solutions for alleged bribery

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating Motorola Solutions on suspicion of bribery, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. Motorola Solutions, not to be confused with Motorola Mobility, reportedly paid bribes to foreign officials, including Austrian count Alfons Mensdorff-Pouilly, in an attempt to increase business in Europe. If the allegations are true, Motorola Solutions will have been in violation of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and will likely be required to pay a fine. Since we first caught wind of the HTC Vigor, things have been blurry. And I don’t just mean leaked photos — we’ve been back and forth on a few different features like display resolution, or whether or not it’ll be a Droid-branded handset. But for a handset with such an air of mystery, our latest leak has really spilled the beans.
Courtesy of Droid-Life, we now have some semi-clear pictures, and a full list of hardware specifications for what is indeed the HTC Vigor. You remember that monster sized Android-powered phone from HTC that has leaked several times over the course of the last few weeks, the HTC Runnymede? Once it becomes official it may actually be called the Sensation XL.
The Runnymede/Senation XL is a beast of a device. It is going to feature a 4.7-inch display like its Windows Phone counterpart the HTC Titan. Powering the device is a single-core 1.5GHz processor. It is also going to be another one of the new devices to feature HTC’s latest acquisition Beats Audio on board. There had been a rumor going around that the Runnymede would be rebranded the HTC Bass once it hit retail shelves, but that is no longer the case.

Moments ago, T-Mobile took the wraps off three new devices. The newly introduced HTC Amaze 4G (pictured above) and Samsung Galaxy S II are the first smartphones, T-Mobile tells us, that will take advantage of the carrier’s blazing fast HSPA+ network with 42Mbps speeds. The Amaze 4G features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording, a rear illuminated sensor for night shots, a 4.3-inch qHD Super LCD screen, NFC support and the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS. Gees, Samsung is on a roll when it comes to phones, as today the Korean-based company announced the launch of the Samsung Omnia W, its first smartphone based on the latest release of Microsoft’s Windows Phone Mango. The Samsung Omnia W will be priced at about €310 before taxes and subsidies.
The Omnia W sports a 3.7-inch 800×480 Super AMOLED display, 1.4GHz processor, VGA webcam on the front and rear 5MP camera with 720p video recording, and a integrated 14.4Mbps HSPA connectivity. These specs is similar to that of HTC’s Radar, with the exception of a slightly faster processor on the Samsung device, 1.4GHz compared to the Radar’s 1 GHz. Earlier this month, we got a quick glance at a new HTC handset headed to T-Mobile, but some more official-looking shots of the HTC Amaze / Ruby have just bubbled up. No additional information, like a release date, accompanied these shots unfortunately.
From what we’ve gathered, the Amaze is going to be a pretty impressive bit of hardware; it’s got a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 touchscreen, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. The HTC Amaze will be running Android 2.3 with Sense 3.5 on top, and connect to T-Mobile’s 42 MBps HSPA+ network.

Conventional thinking says that it would take a beast of a program to break through the encryption spit out by the SSL/TLS protocol – that’s why it’s found in so many websites and browsers these days. Unfortunately, a pair of researchers say they’ve whipped up just such a program in the form of BEAST, or “Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS,” and they plan on showing it off this Friday at the Ekoparty security conference. At least one company’s taking the threat seriously; Google plans on rolling out a Chrome update designed to confuse the BEAST and defend against its threat.

Sorry folks, as much as we dislike being the bearer of bad news, sometimes it's inevitable. This is one of those cases. though it's not the end of the world. It appears as though Intel's upcoming Core i7 2700K processor isn't going to shove aside the Core i7 2600K at the $317 price point as previously rumored, and could cost as much as $350 at launch.
