Motorola Droid 4 is codenamed Maserati, to feature LTE and full QWERTY keyboard
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaDROID 4
Most of you probably could already guess that a Motorola Droid 4 is coming sometime in the future, but little was known about what the actual device would be. Now, prototypes seem to be floating somewhere in Motorola land and a member of Howard’s forums said he held the device and here’s some of its highlights: the Droid 4 is codenamed Maserati, most probably comes with LTE support and a screen size of around 4 inches. While the user going by the provocative fonesex moniker didn’t know the exact screen measurements, he did say it was smaller than the 4.3 one on the newly leaked Motorola Droid RAZR.
Summing up his impressions, the user said: “Also just held another stunning phone. Droid 4(G),...

LG Brings Esteem To MetroPCS' 4G Lineup
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesLGEsteem
MetroPCS today announced the LG Esteem, the company's third 4G LTE phone. Nearly identical to the LG Revolution for Verizon, the Esteem differs only in the amount of internal memory (8 GB on the Esteem) and the frequency bands it supports for LTE, to match Metro's network. The phone is marketed as being media-centric. For an extra $10/month, consumers can choose unlimited music streaming from Rhapsody, or streaming video content from MetroSTUDIO. The phone sports Android 2.3, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel main camera, front camera, 4.3-inch display, TV output via HDMI (wired) and DLNA (wireless), and 8GB of built-in memory plus a memory card slot. It goes on sale "this week" for ...

HTC Radar 4G visits FCC on its way to T-Mobile
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCT-MobileRadar
HTC Radar 4G, which we see as a mass market Windows Phone 7.5 Mango device, is at the FCC where the government-paid engineers are testing its radiation levels, making sure it’s safe to be used by the general public. Once that process is completed, HTC’s baby will be heading to T-Mobile USA, which we think will sell it for about $100 on a two-year contract.
Specs wise, the Radar 4G comes with a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen, single-core 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera on the back, front-facing camera (for video calls), HSPA+ (4G) and Wi-Fi connectivity and 8GB of built-in storage. As I said, it’s a solid mid-range by today’s standards (hence mass-market appeal), leaving the premium high-end sp...

Intel Intros New Z68-based Extreme Series Desktop Boards
Like UnlikeFiled in: MotherboardsIntelDZ68ZVDZ68BC
Intel released two new Desktop Board Extreme Series motherboards based on the Z68 chipset, supporting Core processors in the LGA1155 package, the DZ68ZV and DZ68BC. The DZ68ZV uses the same exact PCB as the DP67BG, replacing the P67 PCH with Z68 (they're pin-compatible). It lacks display connectivity. The only plus here is support for Intel Smart Response Technology. It uses a 8-phase active-swiching/load-balancing digital PWM power circuitry for the CPU, and quite a few overclocking features. Expansion slots include two PCI-Express 2.0 x16, three PCIe x1, and two PCI. Storage connectivity includes two SATA 6 Gb/s four SATA 3 Gb/s and one eSATA 3 Gb/s. Then there's 8-channel HD audio, USB 3....

Three offers unlimited data for £3 supplement
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Three has announced plans to offer a £3 supplement to all its pay monthly smartphone customers giving them unlimited data to chomp through.
The new add-on comes as Three's research tells it that smartphone users' average data use is on the up and up.
Three's iPhone 4 customers were using an average of 488Mbps of data per month in February 2011; by August they were using nearly 1.2GB a month, which is well over what most networks class as 'unlimited data'.
Of course, it's worth noting that these results could be skewed by iPhone 4 users already on Three's all-you-can-eat data plans who are munching through data with gay abandon.
The whole internet for £3
But with data-hungry apps, streaming a...

Like UnlikeFiled in: KODAK
Shares in iconic photography and printing brand Eastman Kodak have fallen by 25 per cent amid the news that a £103 million loan for "general corporate purposes" has been taken out.
Although Kodak was well known for its film photography technology for over 100 years, it has not made a profit since 2007.
Overall, shares have fallen by 66 per cent this year alone. In 1997 shares in Kodak were valued at $90 (£57), but on Monday had fallen to just $1.74 (£1.20).
Cash flow
Recently, the company has spent millions of dollars investing money into the business, with the recent loan of $160 million (£103 million) said to be worrying investors.
Speaking to Reuters, a spokesman from Kodak, Christopher V...

Google Inks Contract for Scheduled Content on YouTube
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Remember when YouTube was little more than an online video portal filled with crappy videos shot in blurry SD? You could argue that much of the content still sucks, but at least the picture quality is much improved with so many HD uploads. Google has begun taking a proactive role in improving the actual content too, and as 2012 rolls around, you'll be able to watch scheduled broadcasts with professional actors, just like cable and satellite TV.
Google is keeping mum on its plans, but according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, it's all but a done deal as Google finalizes contracts for what will be the first of many channels. The goal is to have content ready by early 2012.
In order to ...

Foxconn's Shandong factory hit with roof fire
Like UnlikeFiled in: Foxconn
Another fire has hit a Foxconn factory, this time in China's Shandong province, reports say. There are no accounts of injuries, and Foxconn reports that the fire has already been extinguished. The manufacturer suggests that the fire was probably caused by abandoned pipelines left on top of the building.
Because assembly lines are said to have been undamaged, production is expected to continue as usual. Foxconn's Shandong plants produce a variety of electronics, including phones, TVs, game consoles and notebooks. Some smartphone production has been relocated to other factories in recent times.
The incident is Foxconn's second major fire this year. The first hit a plant in Chengdu, killing thr...

Spotify: 250,000 new users daily after Facebook deal
Like UnlikeSpotify is reportedly seeing 250,000 new users join each day, in the aftermath of its deal with Facebook last week, with monthly active users leaping by 1m to 4.4m. The figures, shared by music industry consultancy MusicAlly, contrasts sharply with criticism of Spotify’s decision to tie new sign-ups up with the social network. Spotify currently offers six months of its unlimited access package free to new users.
However, to get that unlimited access package, you’ll need to have a Facebook account, since the company has merged its own login system and that of the social network. In a statement, also given to MusicAlly, Spotify described it as “like a virtual ‘passport’, designed to make the e...

AnonAustria publishes personal data of Austrian Police
Like UnlikeThe Austrian branch of the Anonymous hacking group, AnonAustria, has published the personal information including addresses and dates of birth of nearly 25,000 police officials, ranging from low rank beat officers to senior commanders in the police force.
AnonAustria posted the private information as a searchable database on its Twitter account yesterday, justifying their actions in protest of a proposed change to the law that would see telecommunications companies forced to save details of all telephone and internet traffic for a minimum of 6 months, and provide them to police when requested.
Police union official Walter Scharinger expressed concern yesterday regarding the news, fearing rev...

Nokia N9 begins shipping at not inexpensive prices
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIAN9
After months of rumors and pre-orders, the Nokia N9 has finally begun shipping. Today, the Finnish manufacturer announced that its Meego-drenched handsets are now available for consumption, in both 16GB and 64GB variants. Of course, those of us in the US are out of luck, as are those in Germany and the UK (barring any back-door wizardry), but everyone else can grab a 16GB model for the not-so-small price of €480 (about $650), or the 64GB version for the similarly steep price of €560 (roughly $757). Pricing and availability, of course, will vary by region, but you can find more details in the full press release after the break, or at the source link, below.

Arrested LulzSec Suspect Was Named Student of the Month This Year
Like UnlikeCody Kretsinger, arrested last week for participating in the LulzSec face-smashing of Sony Pictures, was a good kid. Aside from his massively illegal hacking, he was a bright student who just wanted a family and to work for the government.
Online security journalist Brian Krebs tracked down Kretsinger's straight arrow past, discovering that he was named Student of the Month at Arizona's University of Advancing Technology, where he was studying network security, and scheduled to graduate this fall. Not anymore.
Kretsinger, interviewed for his profile as an accomplished student, lays out his hopes for the future—hopes that probably didn't include a federal indictment. The page has since vanish...

Canon DSLRs may get aperture adjustment rings
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasCanon
Canon may soon be offering aperture adjustment rings for its DSLR cameras. Adjusting apertures on modern day DSLRs has been relegated to electronic controls that make it difficult to get a smooth transition between aperture settings, which is especially important when it comes to recording videos. Thanks to a patent application from Canon, we now know that they’ve been working on addressing this issue.
These new lenses that Canon is working on, feature the typical focus ring and zoom ring, but add a third ring for controlling the aperture. However, unlike old school cameras, this aperture ring controls the setting electronically rather than through a mechanical iris.
