Samsung used its self-run Mobile Solutions Forum to show a slew of new chip and memory technology. The headliner was its Exynos 4212. The dual-core chip is primarily a clock speed boost and jumps from 1.2GHz to 1.5GHz, helped in part by a new 32 nanometer process. While already seen in the Galaxy S II LTE, it's now known to have a new graphics core with 50 percent faster 3D rendering than the earlier chip.

The chip is in test sampling for third party companies in the fall, although Samsung is shipping the Galaxy S II LTE in Canada and South Korea as well as the HD LTE. Future phones like the Nexus Prime and future tablets should also get the processor.

Gang producing iPhone knockoffs with real parts busted in China

Gang producing iPhone knockoffs with real parts busted in China

Posted on Sep 29, 2011 by MG15

According to a police report filed by Chinese authorities, fake iPhones assembled with genuine parts have been discovered circulating the local cell phone market. The well-organized gang behind the scheme found a way to get their hands on some essential components from Apple's suppliers, assemble the devices in a sort of a DIY fashion, and even make the handsets appear more or less indistinguishable from the real deal to the average Joe.

Apparently, business for the guys was going well as an iPhone knockoff cost them about 2,000 yuan (roughly $310) worth of components, yet sold for about twice as much on the market. In comparison, a genuine iPhone can be bought from an official Apple store...

According to reports Facebook and Apple are still discussing if Facebook is unveiling their iPad app on Tuesday in the Apple event or on Monday on their own. TechCrunch calls Apple and Facebook "Frenemies.", which hits it on the head. Apple has already let Twitter into their world. They need to actually do the same with Facebook unless Apple is doing their own social n...

The firms are each apparently set to add Tizen development to their engineer’s workload, DigiTimes‘ sources claim, with HTC said to be “currently evaluating its decision.” The shift in OS focus will mean that ASUS and Acer’s existing MeeGo device plans are put on ice, it’s suggested.

T-Mobile supports Samsung in Apple patent battle

T-Mobile supports Samsung in Apple patent battle

Posted on Sep 29, 2011 by MG15

T-Mobile has filed with the federal courts to oppose Apple’s request for a preliminary US injunction on Samsung’s Galaxy products. The move is similar to what Verizon did last week, when it, too, sided with Samsung and filed with the courts to oppose the injunction request, citing possible negative effects to its 4G LTE network deployment. T-Mobile claims that an injunction on Samsung’s Galaxy products in the US would “unnecessarily harm” its business and its customers, especially since it is relying on the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as two of its major product launches for this holiday season. The carrier further argues that there isn’t enough time to find comparabl...

Apple Wants to Get Rid of Motherboard Cables

Apple Wants to Get Rid of Motherboard Cables

Posted on Sep 29, 2011 by MG15

Filed in: Apple

There have been some rather wacky ideas such as cutting the audio plug in half, but there have been rather ingenious thoughts that prove how serious Apple is about its product design as well. Most of these approaches relate to ideas that apparently have been sparked by the need of a more compact design, even if a specialized manufacturer does not offer it. A new patent application that describes a multi-pane circuit board may be one such example. To save space, Apple seems to be thinking about replacing traditional cables that connect circuit boards with flexible circuit boards. The purpose of these flexible boards is to transmit data and power between two boards - and to reduce the bill of ...
