Motorola Spyder and Xoom 2 turn up in more leaked shots

Posted on Oct 12, 2011 by MG1

We've already seen Motorola's new Xoom 2 tablet(s) and Spyder smartphone (otherwise known as the Droid HD) turn up in a few leaked shots, and we've now received a handful more that are said to show both devices in their near final form. That includes a Verizon logo on both the front and back of the Spyder for the first time (though that's not exactly unexpected), and the Xoom 2 (the 8.2-inch version in this case) is said to be in "better shape" than the earlier prototypes, which had apparently been suffering from some rather serious bugs. As you can see above, the Spyder also has what appears to be a slightly more tactile back, which could well be the Kevlar coating that's been rumored for t...

O2 to test a VoIP app in UK

Posted on Oct 12, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: O2

It looks like O2 understands the future of mobile carriers, which is probably not a split between voice and data, but a pipe of all data with VoIP replacing traditional voice plans. The carrier is about to start a trial run of a new mobile app which will allow users to make free VoIP calls on WiFi connections.
The trial run will be starting soon with 1,000 users testing the O2 Connect VoIP app for iOS and Android. The trial will be invite-only for consumers and business customers, but will be extended to attendees of the Wired 2011 event this week. O2 Connect won't require any additional signup or usernames, and will use your mobile number as the ID. It is still unclear exactly how the prod...

It’s been almost a week since the tragic news about Steve Jobs’ passing hit us and one thing that’s particularly impressive is the overwhelming response by people all countries regardless of their political or other affiliations. On Twitter, some say the responses reached 2.5 million tweets for 13 hours. Jobs was truly a uniting figure, one that won’t be fully replaced neither by Tim Cook, nor by Phil Schiller or any other single person at Apple.
But Apple’s former chief executive had an adventurous career, full of ups and downs. That’s the exact spirit of Jobs, his legacy, dare being yourself, “staying hungry and foolish.” Jobs was against the narrow minded, the technology solely for the t...

Google+'s traffic is taking a long slide down the shitter, having lost last month's entire 1269% traffic spike. Reading this forced me to remember it exists. Google+ is simply worse than Facebook. And you know what? It'll never catch up.
There's nothing complicated about Plus' meteoric hype party and subsequent thud. It goes like this:

Posted on Oct 12, 2011 by MG1

Sony has revealed details on a new security issue, with hackers supposedly testing a 93,000-strong list of leaked usernames and passwords to see if they’ll grant access to the PlayStation Network and other services. “The overwhelming majority” of the attacks, Sony’s Chief Information Security Officer Philip Reitinger confirmed on the company’s PlayStation blog, have failed, leading the company to suspect that the inaccurate list has come from a third-party source rather than Sony’s own servers. As well as the PSN, the Sony Entertainment Network and Sony Online Entertainment networks were targeted.
