Samsung has revealed that it will launch updated versions of three of its Galaxy smartphones in Europe in order to avoid a sales ban imposed by a Dutch court. The court ruled that three of Samsung's smartphones violated Apple'spatents, and banned them from sale with a grace period ending on October 14 to give Samsung some time to address the issue.
The three phones affected are the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Ace, and the updated versions feature a modified way of scrolling through lists and browsing photos that does not infringe on Apple's patents.
"We've fixed the technological problem and upgraded products to address the issue. They will be shortly available for sale," said a Samsun...

Nokia’s share price has taken a tremendous beating this year, but analysts are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Nomura Securities has upgraded Nokia from “reduce” to “neutral” after the company has shown increasing confidence in executing its product plan this year.
“We are upgrading Nokia to Neutral after raising our estimates to reflect a likely stronger-than expected Q3 [third quarter] and solid Q4. In addition, we expect new Windows Phone launches to feature at October 26th‘s Nokia World event and that Microsoft supported advertising will build shortly after,” Nomuraa analyst Stuart Jeffrey said.
He has however obviously not come around fully yet, showing little confid...

Unfortunately there may be a brand new error affecting the marketplace. Users have been reporting an error code 805a01f4 when trying to download applications from the Windows Phone marketplace during the last few weeks.
I myself have been affected irregularly since the beginning of the week. A Microsoft Answers page for the error started up on the first of the month and is the first reference to the error that I have been able to find on the web. Most of those who have been affected, it seems, have been since ...

Following a period of peace after weeks of cyberattacks launched against various Sony-run online networks, Sony has confirmed that hackers are once again targeting the company’s digital properties. The electronics giant said on Wednesday that it discovered a “large number” of sign-in attempts on its PlayStation Network, Sony Online Entertainment and Sony Entertainment Network between October 7th and the 10th. According to Sony, approximately 93,000 accounts were compromised when valid log-in details were verified during what appears to have been a brute force attack. The company says it has locked the affected accounts and that credit card data tied to the compromised accounts was not at ris...

Huawei Wants Answers from U.S. Gov Over Blocked Bids

Posted on Oct 13, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Huawei

Huawei has officially requested that the U.S. government explain why the company was blocked from participating in a bid for a national first-responder network. Huawei was told that it can't participate due to national security concerns because of its alleged links to the Chinese military, but the company is not satisfied with this answer. "Notwithstanding that it is an ill-founded, ungrounded determination, it could have a chilling effect on our greater U.S. business activities and accountability needs to be defined appropriately," said Huawei spokesperson Bill Plummer. "Huawei has repeatedly and factually demonstrated its corporate independence. No one has ever factually demonstrated other...

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II update comes with bigger icons, FOTA widget

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II update comes with bigger icons, FOTA widget

Posted on Oct 13, 2011 by MG1

Samsung will soon start pushing a new firmware update for its flagship Galaxy S II smartphone. As far as we know, it will be a small release, packing two noticeable changes – bigger icons (up to 30% bigger) and the System Update widget, from where users will be able to quickly see whether a new software version is available and promptly take action.
Aside from that, it’s kinda safe to assume there will be some other changes under the hood, though at the moment we can’t confirm this. Similarly, I guess some of the Samsung apps will get tweaks and the device should be faster after the update.

Good news for those of you who grabbed yourself the let’s face it not-that-popular Vizio tablet – it just got a small yet important firmware update. Unfortunately, the new software doesn’t bring Honeycomb on your device, but you do get few handy enhancements, including the Netflix support. Yep that means you will be able to rent and stream movies from the popular service straight to your tablet. In addition, firmware version 1.3 also packs several security updates though we don’t have the specifics.
As usual, all of your key data is backed up and that your battery is fully charged before proceeding. Once that’s on place, check for new software and follow the instructions provided on the scre...

Three UK is offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S for free on a two-year 25 GBP per month contract. That deal gets you the carrier’s Text 500 plan, which comes with 500 voice minutes, 5,000 text messages along with a single gig of mobile data every month. Of course, you can upgrade and grab the more expensive “all you can eat” plan that costs just 3 GBP more (28 GBP per month) that give you unlimited of everything. What’s more, there’s an option to grab the phone sans any strings attached, the benefit that will cost your 299 GBP outright.
Not bad for a device as powerful as Xperia Arc S. Sure, it doesn’t have a dual-core processor, but its single-core CPU clocking at 1.4GHz should prove as...

With an onslaught of Android tablets, a webOS tablet and the BlackBerry PlayBook, you might have thought the iPad is in danger. Wait until you see the share all these tablets got in August 2011 - 2.8% of all tablet traffic in the States. No typo here.
“In August 2011, iPads delivered 97.2 percent of all tablet traffic in the U.S. iPads have also begun to account for a higher share of Internet traffic than iPhones (46.8 percent vs. 42.6 percent of all iOS device traffic),” comScore’s latest report states.
It’s interesting to see which were the rest of the tablets accounting for a meagre 2.8% of all US tablet traffic, but in either case the facts are hard to ignore here.

BlackBerry maker RIM has issued a statement as to why its users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and other parts of the world have struggled with email browsing, and using BBM over the last two days.
In a statement issued to Pocket-lint late on Tuesday night RIM said:
"The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure. Every iPhone includes an update iTunes, but this may be the last time iPhone users need the media-playing computer software.
One of the things that iTunes 10.5 brings is the iOS 5 update for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches, which will do away with the need to tether your mobile device to a computer to sync it. The new release also enables Wi-Fi syncing between the Apple mobile devices and iTunes on a PC or Mac.
In addition, the update adds some iCloud features, including iTunes Match, which will synchronize music on a user's computer with iCloud storage, even for songs not purchased via the iTunes store. Once the music is up in your iCloud, you'll be able to download it to any Apple device ...
