According to Fidacaro, Apple’s manufacturing partners have orders to build as many as 1 million iPad 3 tablets in the fourth quarter of this year, in line with an earlier note from the analyst’s colleague at Susquehanna, Christopher Caso. “Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start,” Caso wrote in a recent research note. “We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production.” Last week, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White said that Apple will unveil a new entry-level “iPad m...

Verizon and HTC say Gingerbread update for HTC ThunderBolt coming soon
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCVerizon WirelessThunderBolt
ack in late September, Verizon sent out an Android 2.3 update for owners of the HTC ThunderBolt. This took place after various rumors missed the mark on when Verizon's first LTE enabled phone would start running on Gingerbread. Whether or not there was a rush to get the software ready for the handset, some estimated that the update that started late last month was only 90% ready. As a result, HTC ThunderBolt users started experiencing problems after the new software was installed.
Some of the problems included erroneous email notifications and problems with the camera locking. Other issues were found with the clock app, Google Talk and HTC's Sense UI. But it looks like things are about to ge...

Samsung to supply A6 chip for iPhone 5, LG may supply screen
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungLGApple
It seems that regardless of the contentious legal battles being waged between Apple and Samsung around the world, Apple still sees Samsung as a "critical business partner". A report from the Korean Times says that Samsung will indeed supply the quad-core A6 chip which is expected to power both the iPad 3 and the iPhone 5. The same report also says LG is still likely to be the supplier of the iPhone 5 display.
Apple had been looking at TSMC as a possible supplier of the A6 chip, but that job looks to have fallen to Samsung. The report says that TSMC will still produce customized chips designed by Apple, but that it will be limited quantities. The A6 will instead be made by Samsung using its ...

T-Mobile unleashes new monthly unlimited plan for $60
Like UnlikeFiled in: T-Mobile
Today T-Mobile announced their new Monthly4G unlimited plan that will provide unlimited talk, text and 4G data for only $60 per month with no contract required to reap the benefits.
The new Monthly4G plan is a new addition to their already solid array of no-contract plans. T-Mobile’s latest no contract offering delivers all that is good about their speedy HSPA+ network, to a certain degree. Just like what the carriers are starting to do with their contract customers, the “unlimited” web use is only capable of accessing the 4G network until the 2GB threshold of data is crossed. Once 2GB of data is used then T-Mobile will throttle the internet speeds until the new billing cycle begins.

Google to launch music store this quarter
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google will announce and launch its own music store this quarter, Business Insider said recently. The company revealed its Music beta service in May, which allows users to store up to 20,000 songs in the cloud, but now users will be able to purchase and download tracks, too. Google is reportedly already in negotiations with the major music labels and The New York Times recently reported that the service will launch in the “next several weeks.” Record labels, however, are worried that Google’s cloud storage option could kindle, not stifle, music piracy. “We want to make sure the locker doesn’t become a bastion of piracy,” one executive told The New York Times. If Google introduces a music sto...

ITC judge rules that Apple does not infringe on HTC patents
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleHTC
A judge with the United States International Trade Commission has ruled that Apple is not infringing on four of HTC’s patents related to phone dialing and battery power management, Reuters said Monday. HTC originally filed the lawsuit in May of last year when it sought a ban on the import of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The final ruling in the case will occur in February when the verdict of a full commission is revealed. Apple and HTC have been locked in a number of legal battles. Apple first sued HTC in March and a U.S. ITC judge found HTC guilty of infringing on two of Apple’s patents in July. HTC has said it will appeal that ruling.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus passes Wi-Fi cert in Canadian form
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleGALAXY Nexus
Samsung's Galaxy Nexus (Nexus Prime) could go beyond the US quickly if a Wi-Fi Alliance certification (PDF) is any indication. The Android 4.0 flagship was cleared on Thursday as the GT-i9250M; the "M" badge is usually reserved for Canada-localized Samsung phones. The Galaxy S II in Canada, for example, is the GT-i9100M.
Not much can be gleaned from the certification by itself, although it does show 5GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct sharing support. The new Nexus should have a 4.65-inch, 720p screen, a dual-core processor and possibly a fast five-megapixel camera.
Google and Samsung will reveal the Galaxy Nexus on October 19 in Hong Kong. It may be a Verizon exclusive in the US, but the Wi...

NVIDIA intros 3D Vision 2 glasses with brighter field of view, comfier design
Like UnlikeFiled in: nVIDIA
NVIDIA's 3D Vision is impressive and all, but one trade-off you'll have to accept when you put on those active shutter glasses is a markedly dimmer field of view than what you'd get if you settled for plain-Jane 2D gaming. Well, the outfit just unveiled the second generation of the technology -- appropriately named 3D Vision 2 -- and this go 'round it promises not to strain your vision quite so much. These shutter glasses have a lens that's 20 percent larger, promising a brighter experience. As an added perk, the frames have been rejiggered to be lighter and more flexible so that you can comfortably wear headphones without pinching your lobes. As for the newest 3D Vision monitors and laptops...

Twitter Phishing Scam Exposes Your Morbid Curiosity
Like UnlikeA few days ago, I felt sick to my stomach when I opened the following direct message on Twitter from reporter Greg Bensinger, a person I follow who doesn't follow me.
His DM read, "I saw a real bad blog about you, you seen this? "
Morbidly curious, I clicked on the link and was led to a Twitter's homepage asking me to log back in. Something felt phishy, so I closed the screen and didn't think twice. Bensinger's account was down as well.
I was reminded of the whole incident on Friday when Graham Cluley of Sophos identified this "real bad blog" DM as a Twitter phishing attack making the rounds.
Basically the scam aims to take control of your Twitter account by tricking you into re-entering you...

Japanese camera company has fired its CEO, Michael Woodford, on Friday. The first non-Japanese Olympus CEO was let go over disputes over the strategy of the firm, which led to a 17 percent share price drop. Olympus' board unanimously dismissed Woodford as president and CEO, but has retained him as director until a suitable replacement is found through a vote at the next annual shareholders' meeting.
Olympus chairman Tsuyoshi Kikukawa will take over as president and CEO.
"We hoped that he could do things that would be difficult for a Japanese executive to do, but he was not able to understand that we needed to reflect the management style we have built up since the company was established 92 ...

Google Killing Buzz to Focus on Google+
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google on Friday announced that it will kill off its beleaguered Buzz social-networking product in the next few weeks in order to focus its attention on Google+.
The search giant will also shut down the Google Labs site and replace Boutiques.com and Like.com with Google Product Search later today, as promised, in addition to getting rid of several lesser-known products.
Google is ditching Buzz and its API. Existing Buzz content will still be viewable on a user's Google Profile and downloadable from Google Takeout.
"Changing the world takes focus on the future, and honesty about the past. We learned a lot from products like Buzz, and are putting that learning to work every day in our vision f...

Microsoft doles out the dough to Nokia and Samsung, plans Mango marketing bonanza for year's end
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungMicrosoftNOKIA
Know who loves it when other OEMs call him big poppa? Ballmer, that's who. So much so that he's opened up the company's coffers to Nokia and Samsung for a holiday blitz of Mango marketing. Hold onto your hats though, it's no carte blanche access to Redmond's Gringotts. According to a report on Mobile Magazine, inside sources claim MS has set aside ₤28 million (about $44 million) for the endeavor, with about ₤20 million of that reserved for Nokia's first Windows Phone 7.5 handset. This joint marketing effort is reportedly a broader extension of the cooperative agreements all parties agreed to, ensuring future WP devices get the media saturation they deserve. So, keep your eyes peeled this upc...
