Orange UK now offers Acer Liquid Express for free with 20.50 GBP/month plan

Orange UK now offers Acer Liquid Express for free with 20.50 GBP/month plan

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

The Acer Liquid Express is now available from Orange UK. We’ve first seen this low-to-mid end Android smartphone back in September and now everyone can get it for free on a plan that costs at least 20.50 GBP per month. That money either gets you 300 minutes and unlimited texts; or 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data every month. If you need more minutes and megabytes, you can grab some more expensive plan to get up to 900 minutes and 1 GB of data for whopping 41 GBP per month. Now I’m not sure why would anyone grab such a device with that big plan, since you can easily get a way more powerful smartphone with the same monthly commitment.

HTC to unveil quad-core tablet in February

HTC to unveil quad-core tablet in February

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: TabletsHTC

HTC has not found tremendous success thus far with its first two tablet offerings. Despite a carrier deal with Sprint, the Sense UI, a unique note-taking feature called Scribe and a bunch of scantily-clad women toting the tablet at a few events, our sources suggest HTC Flyer sales have not been stellar. The company’s second tablet offering, the Jetstream, was priced out of contention here in the U.S., running $700 with a two-year data contract from AT&T. According to a recent report, HTC’s lucky number three will be unveiled in February at the annual Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Spain. Details are limited for the time being, but DigiTimes cites a report from Chinese-language Comm...

Verzo Kinzo is not yet another Android smartphone; Could be yours for $459

Verzo Kinzo is not yet another Android smartphone; Could be yours for $459

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

If you’re looking for a different Android smartphone and don’t care much what’s under the hood, maybe the Verzo Kinzo is the device for you. The stylish phone runs Android 2.2 Froyo and doesn’t rock a dual-core processor as you would expect from a piece of hardware that costs $459. On the other hand, it doesn’t look like “yet another Android smartphone” and I guess that’s the Americano Czech company’s key selling point.
Specs wise, it rocks a 4.3-inch WVGA glass-capacitive touchscreen, TI’s OMAP 3630 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash, VGA front-facing camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. What’s more, inside the box you also get (aside from the pho...

Gingerbread update for LG Optimus 3D starts rolling out next week

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Remember that early Gingerbread ROM for the LG Optimus 3D? Sure, it was in a state too crude to be used on a daily basis, but it was good for one thing, namely spoiling the surprise by revealing what goodies the upcoming update is about to bring.
Well, the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 3D is now officially starting to roll out next week, November 21 to be precise. Europeans who own and unlocked version of the smartphone will be the first to try it out, yet additional markets and handset variations will be added to the list by the year's end.
What the Gingerbread update adds is pretty much what we already know thanks to the aforementioned leak. Editing footage on the Optimus 3D will b...

Our friends across the pond have had a month's head start getting to know Sony Ericsson's Xperia arc S inside and out. Now, it appears that refreshed flagship's gearing up to hit stateside as early as this week in unlocked fashion. Shown as having an estimated November 15th ship date on Sony's site, the 4.2-inch Gingerbread handset brings its Mobile Bravia Engine display, 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor and 8 megapixel shooter to North American mitts for $499 in four distinct shades. If carrier subsidization is your preferred method of purchase, you'll have to hold off for a bit as official US plans have yet to be announced. But why wait? Intel to make future notebooks MasterCard PayPass compatible

Intel to make future notebooks MasterCard PayPass compatible

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: NotebooksIntel

When Intel bets on a certain type of technology, it usually becomes a standard. That’s the kind of power they have because of their massive scale. An astonishing 80.2% of the computers that were sold in Q3 of this year had Intel chips inside. MasterCard, looking to take advantage of Intel’s dominance, has announced that they’ve partnered with the chip giant so that future personal computers will be able to read PayPass enabled credit/debit cards. The deal is a “multi-year strategic collaboration”, which means it’ll take a while before you’ll actually see a PayPass logo on a notebook at your local electronics shop.

Ultra-thin 15-inch MacBook may launch in Q2 next year

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Apple may launch an ultra-thin 15-inch MacBook laptop as early as the second quarter of 2012 according to a new report. Components for the new notebook have already begun shipping, DigiTimes reported on Tuesday, though details are extremely limited for the time being. The site’s nameless sources say that components started moving this month in small volumes, perhaps for test runs of the new computer. As was the case when earlier reports emerged regarding the new laptop, it is unclear if this new model will be added to the high end of Apple’s MacBook Air line or if it will simply be a new, thinner MacBook Pro. Mass shipments are currently scheduled to begin in March according to the report, t...

RIM Unveils The BlackBerry Bold 9790 And Curve 9380

RIM Unveils The BlackBerry Bold 9790 And Curve 9380

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

We may have gotten a glimpse at what RIM has planned for the future, but for now RIM devotees will have to make do with a new pair of current-gen BlackBerrys. The new Bold 9790 and the Curve 9380 both run RIM’s BlackBerry 7 OS, but that’s about where the similarities stop.
As the model number suggests, the 9790 is an extension of RIM’s pint-sized 9700 series. The Bold 9790 sticks with the tried-and-true BlackBerry design, albeit with some revamped buttons that caused a bit of a stir when they were first spotted. Unlike the other BB7-powered Bold, the 9790 sports a smaller 2.44-inch 360×480 display, a 1GHz processor, and 8GB of internal storage.
Meanwhile, the Curve 9380 takes its cues from t...

Verizon restarts HTC DROID Incredible Gingerbread deployment

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

HTC and Verizon Wireless have apparently restarted the deployment of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original DROID Incredible. Initially released back in September, the companies pulled the update shortly after it went out for undisclosed reasons. Here we are over two months later and users are reporting left and right that the upgrade is once again available to them. Users should get a notification on their devices when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed, or they can manually check through the Settings app on the phone itself.

Amazon Kindle Fire catches the eye of Android developers

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablet hasn't quite yet hit the hands of would-be buyers, but that hasn't stopped developers from saying that it is the most desired of all Android tablets to create apps for. Appcelerator and IDC polled almost 2,200 developers this month, and the Kindle Fire edged out the Samsung Galaxy Tab as the most attractive Android tablet to target their efforts at.

The Samsung Omnia 7 gets another post-Mango firmware update

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

It appears Samsung is still tweaking with the Samsung Omnia 7, despite the release of their new Windows Phone handsets.
John in the Czech Republic has received a firmware update for his open-market Samsung Omnia 7 to firmware version 2424.11.9.2 but notes that it still did not bring internet sharing.
On XDA other users are noting the Radio firmware was also updated to 242.11.9.1 and the Bootloader to 5.9.0.6.
While no changes have been obvious, at least users have the minor bonus of having an extra 200 MB free storage after the update.
Have any of our readers received the update, and have you noticed any changes? Let us know below.

Nvidia also recommends that Battlefield 3 players download the new drivers, thanks to a trio of improvements specific to that title. Check out the full list of improvements below, and if they pique your interest, head on over to Nvidia’s beta drivers pag...
