ZTE Tania launched in France on SFR, no ZTE branding though

ZTE Tania launched in France on SFR, no ZTE branding though

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

ZTE is a Chinese company that’s in the exact same boat Huawei was in just a few short years ago, and that HTC was in going as far back as the late 1990s. All three of these Asian companies make mobile phones, but their first customers weren’t people, they were the corporations we so lovingly call wireless operators. It took a lot of commitment from HTC to develop their own brand and eventually the Sense UI that differentiates them today in the Android world. The same can be said for Huawei, who just recently announced that they’re going to open up a design shop in London and will be selling their branded devices unlocked in retail stores. ZTE is still a baby in this respect. Today one of the...

Nokia Lumia 800 hits UK stores, preorder demand leaves Orange UK glowing

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

As Nokia's first Windows Phone lights up shop fronts across Britain, Orange has informed us that the Lumia 800 has attracted the most attention it's ever seen for a Nokia device. Based on preorders, the smartphone has trumped both the critically acclaimed N95 and the 5800, while we're sure the gratis Xbox 360 for upgraders hasn't hurt demand -- 50 percent of those looking to pick up the polycarbonate phone are already Orange customers. The carrier has told us that an Xbox-based offer for new customers looking to pick up the Nokia-coated Windows Phone is also in the pipeline -- something for UK network hoppers to get excited about.

HTC, porn company tussling over Vivid name

HTC, porn company tussling over Vivid name

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

If you walk into an AT&T store and plan to pick up the 4G LTE-capable HTC Vivid, would you be confused into thinking this is part of a porn company? Well, Vivid Entertainment seems to think so, as it asking HTC to change the name or it will be sued.
HTC told The Verge that it doesn’t have any comments but it seems like an odd idea to me, as it’s clear to me that this device doesn’t come from the adult entertainment company, even if you can use Android for porn. Still, Vivid is very deep into technology and it too wants to protect its brands out there.
What do you think of this legal threat? Should HTC bend over to Vivid?

Todd Wood, RIM’s senior vice president of Industrial Design, stated that the 2012 BlackBerry handsets can be characterized as “charming, whimsical, and fun”, confirming that the design of the new handsets will depart significantly from RIM’s current product line.
The quote was part of a larger explanation of how his design team draws inspiration when designing new product lines. The team travels to a different location to hold a design workshop, soaking up local culture and architecture while looking for design cues. The most recent line of BlackBerry OS 7 phones were the result of a workshop in Bellagio, Italy.

Google re-releases official iOS Gmail app hopefully for good this time

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

It seemed like only two weeks ago when Google decided to grace us with the presence of the official Gmail app for iOS. Well, that’s because it WAS two weeks ago when not only was the app made available, but approximately 11.7 minutes later, it was taken down by Google as it contained a crippling bug that would crash for users upon opening. Google has then fixed the bug, which was quite a doozy as the app took two weeks to be released again on the App Store, and is now available for your downloading pleasure.
Google has also revealed in the short time their Gmail app for iOS was made available, they received a lot of feedback from users to improve the Gmail on iOS experience, such as multipl...

Welcome to the club T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G users! You are finally able to use Gingerbread and all of the goodies that brings. We know that Ice Cream Sandwich is the new hotness, but it's always nice to get an update.
The update will not only bring your Galaxy S 4G up to Gingerbread, Android 2.3.6 to be exact. The update also brings a mysterious "Google Security Patch", whatever that means, as well as camera enhancements and WiFi enhancements.
The bad news is that this update will not be available OTA, so you'll have to dig up your USB cable, hook up your phone to your computer and use the Samsung Kies Mini software to update your phone.

HTC Mozart and HD7 go back to grade school, learn how to Internet Share

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

The ability to use your Windows Phone as a mobile hotspot was originally an exclusive feature extended only to brand new Mango devices, but we're now beginning to see Internet Sharing pop up on the HTC HD7 and Mozart. We're seeing reports that it's showing up in various parts of the world, though we still haven't heard if this will include T-Mobile HD7 users in the US or if it still awaits final carrier approval first. Either way, it's probably worth clicking on that Zune icon to check for the update.

Google Music available on T-Mobile devices, track purchases can be direct billed

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

T-Mobile just announced at Google's "These Go To Eleven" event that it will enable tracks purchased through Google Music to be direct billed to its subscribers. Exclusive content will also be available for T-Mobile customers for free -- you'll be able to grab tracks from Drake, Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes and other artists to be announced later. When asked when this will be ready for primetime, we were told that no ETA has been set so far, so it sounds like there's still a few ducks that aren't in a row quite just yet. T-Mo seems pretty confident that its network will be able to handle the massive explosion of data usage that will likely follow -- a pretty impressive feat, given the carrier's pro...
