ASUS Eee PC Flare 1205C/1205CE, X101CH, and 1225B

A few weeks ago, Intel updated their Atom platform with the launch of Cedar Trail, the successor to Pine Trail. While CPU performance isn’t likely to have changed much—we’re still looking at a dual-core plus Hyper-Threading in-order architecture—the GPU core received an upgrade to a PowerVR SGX 545 (from the precious GMA 3150). The new chips are also fabbed on Intel’s 32nm process, making for a very tiny and power efficient processor that should improve on Atom’s already impressive battery life. Naturally, a new Atom platform means new Atom netbooks from all the usual suspects, and first out the door (at least in terms of detailed announcements) is ASUS with their updated Eee PC lineup. The Hand-Stretching Samsung Galaxy Note Finds an LTE Home at AT&T

The Hand-Stretching Samsung Galaxy Note Finds an LTE Home at AT&T

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG1

Samsung Galaxy Note made a splash in Europe back in September of last year. Was it a gigantic phone or a tiny tablet? No one knew! Well, the debate is about to come to U.S. soil.
The phone (yes, it's a phone, but just barely) has a 5.3-inch screen. It is, indeed huge. For me, it was usable, but I've got ape-hands. It would make our Kyle Wagner, with his famously tiny hands, explode. I was able to type on it one-handed, but even for me the far side of the screen was a bit of a stretch. The screen is, however, very pretty with 1280x800 HD Super AMOLED resolution. Bright colors, inky blacks. Very nice.

Apple releases iOS 5.1 Beta 3 - Updates Baseband Again, 3G Toggle is Back

Apple releases iOS 5.1 Beta 3 - Updates Baseband Again, 3G Toggle is Back

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

We've been tracking and updating our iPhone 4S' to each beta of iOS 5.1, and today Apple has pushed out an OTA version of iOS 5.1 Beta 3 (build 9B5141a). The update changes baseband firmware on the 4S to 1.5.04 (from 1.4.00 in iOS 5.1 Beta 2) and also reintroduces the 3G toggle on our AT&T iPhone 4S. This is a very welcome and timely change especially considering that AT&T WCDMA is almost unusable in Las Vegas, making EDGE sometimes the only way to stay connected.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 announced for Verizon

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 announced for Verizon

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG1

Though Samsung already represents the 7-inch tablet class in the US with the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus on T-Mobile, it's the Galaxy Tab 7.7 we've really been wanting — it's just hard to argue with a 1280 x 800 Super AMOLED Plus display in a 7.9mm-thick shell. That dream is realized today on the news that Verizon is picking up an LTE-enabled version of the device, and amazingly, it's not even a tenth of a millimeter thicker than its non-LTE European cousin. It's got a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, Android 3.2 (no word yet on ICS upgrade plans), 3-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear and front cameras, and 16GB of storage; it also carries over the international model's unusual side-mounted infrared port to ...

AT&T announces Pantech Burst and Samsung Exhilarate LTE phones, both cost less than $50

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG1

AT&T just announced at its Developer Summit two LTE phones that will cost less than $50 on contract. First up is the Pantech Burst, which will have a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, and comes in either black or red. There's also the Samsung Exhilarate, which is being described as the first "sustainable" LTE device. AT&T says the phone is constructed from 80 percent recycled post-consumer materials, and it has an Eco calendar and calculator to help you figure out how green (or not) you are.
You'll be able to purchase the Pantech Burst alongside the Element tablet (which was also announced today) for $249.99 if you buy a contract for both devices. Clearly, AT&T is looking to lower the price of ent...

Intel promotes Windows 8 ultrabooks, touchscreen tech at CES

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG1

Intel has previewed the capabilities of Windows 8-based ultrabooks, some of which take advantage of touchscreen technology and voice recognition. The chip maker suggests more than 75 ultrabook designs will arrive on the market this year, as the company's third-generation Core-series processors become available this spring.
Intel vice president Mooly Eden demonstrated a unique ultrabook prototype, known as the Nikiski, that features a transparent touchpad that extends most of the way across the space below the keyboard. The transparent surface enables users to close the notebook and still view content, such as news feeds and calendar entries, on a portion of the display.

Microsoft has begun rolling out a Windows Phone update intended to stomp out myriad bugs and glitches associated with the mobile OS platform, and that should be received as a good thing. So why are so many Windows Phone users freaking out and suddenly worrying about fragmentation similar to what exists on Android? It has to do with a change in Microsoft's transparency policy.

No one is more pleased than us that Sony has finally seen the light and somehow found a way to condense last year's lineup of 27 TVs to only ten new models for 2012, all due in Q1 2012. All of which fit into either the BX, EX or HX line. We'll start at the top with HX. It is broken up into the HX850 or HX750, both available in 46 or 55-inches. All the HX models are Skype ready (optional CMU-BR100 camera and microphone) include Track ID, have built-in WiFi and provide access to the Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) as well as apps like Netflix and Hulu Plus.
