Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop appears to have indicated that the integration of Nokia’s map data with Bing Maps is due.
"Part of the relationship we established with Microsoft is that we are clearly placing a bet on the Windows Phone platform. [In return] they are placing a bet on our location-based platform: mapping, navigation and so forth," said Elop told Pocket-lint.
With the integration of Nokia’s mapping and navigation data with Bing will also come the Nokia branding.
"You’ll starting seeing the word ‘Nokia’ on a map that you get from Microsoft properties over a period of time," Elop explained to Pocket-lint in an interview at CES in Las Vegas. "Even if you are on a BlackBerry device, who r...

Official Wikipedia app lands on Android

Official Wikipedia app lands on Android

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by MG1

For years, Wikipedia has been available for iOS, but Android users can now get all that information at their fingertips with an official app.
The app does standard task similar to its iPhone counterpart, as it pulls from the mobile site, letting you bookmark pages or search for entries located near you. The Android version also comes with a few additional features, which includes the ability to save articles for offline use, utilize Android’s “Share” function and view any given article in a different language, rather than switching the language of the whole site.
I didn’t run into any major issues when I tested the app out myself, but I did find my phone’s GPS a little wonky. Like other revi...

LG Spectrum now available on Verizon for $199

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by MG1

The LG Spectrum is now available from Verizon Wireless for about $200 with a new two-year contract and the latest 4G LTE smartphone packs quite the punch with a beautiful HD screen.
The device isn’t dramatically different from the LG Nitro we saw earlier but the Spectrum is for Verizon Wireless and it will be a 4G LTE handset. We can also look forward to a 4.5 True HD IPS display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8 megapixel camera on the rear, 1.3 megapixel camera and all the other connectivity goodies you’d expect from a smartphone like this.
While we’ve seen multiple phones with a 720p screen, the True HD IPS display is quite a sight to behold and I found LG’s HD screens to be some of the best...

Hack breaks Hulu Plus free from supported device chains, embraces Androids of every shape and color

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by MG1

It's not TV, it's Hulu Plus and it's coming to the Android device of your choosing -- somewhat, unofficially. While the main ad-supported, streaming video site may have failed to seek refuge in the arms of a new owner last year, its subscription mobile offshoot is now finding a home in all Googlefied phones and tablets via a modified .apk created by XDA Developers member Vgeezy. But before you get all hot and bothered, keep in mind this jailbroken app still requires a subscription to work, although you won't need root to install it. So, any users looking for a quick and illicit content fix will have to look elsewhere. For everyone else, there's the source link below.

Two software updates are being pushed out to owners of the Nokia Lumia 800. First, there’s a battery related software update that fixes issues that several Lumia 800 units have been experiencing. It’s the second part of a two part software update that Nokia promised they’d roll out back in late November. We’re impressed that Nokia actually managed to stick to their word and release these updates on time. As for the second software update, it’s related to Windows Phone. Microsoft recently announced Windows Phone 7.5 Mango build 8107 and it fixes some issues relating to syncing with Google’s email service, issues with the on screen keyboard disappearing at seemingly random times, and something...

Nokia pressured by mobile carriers to cut Lumia prices

Nokia pressured by mobile carriers to cut Lumia prices

Posted on Jan 19, 2012 by MG3

All the way over the pond in the UK there’s pressure being pushed down on Nokia to lower the price of the Lumia line, specifically the Lumia 710 which launches there in the next few weeks, as its first devices with Windows Phone have, perhaps, not performed as well as they’d liked. This could be seen as the exact opposite of what we’ve seen with Apple and their ultra high command over carriers working with the iPhone since its inception. Nokia has held more than a few discussions with UK operators on what it’ll do with the Lumia 710 as is launches in the market there, this perhaps reflecting what’s happened in the USA.

Whited00r brings latest iOS enhancements to the devices Apple left behind

Posted on Jan 19, 2012 by MG3

Not everyone upgrades their handset on a regular basis, and if for whatever reason you've been saddled with the original iPhone or iPod touch for the last several years, you've had to watch as updated hardware revisions brought new iOS enhancements that were simply unavailable to your device. Whited00r, which cobbles together some of the standout features from iOS 4 and iOS 5 — multitasking, folders, background customization, etc. — in an unsanctioned package that seeks to inject new life into Apple's older products. Best of all, the custom firmware can be sideloaded from directly within iTunes without any sort of prior jailbreak.
