Pirate Bay Supreme Court appeal denied - prison ahoy!

Posted on Feb 03, 2012 by MG1

The founders of Pirate Bay, Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström, have failed in a new attempt to have their jail sentences for criminal copyright infringement offences overturned. Sweden's Supreme Court will not grant them leave to appeal, and so their original sentences will stand.
Neij, Sunde and Lundström had already had their jail sentences reduced by the Court of Appeal, to 10, 8 and 4 months respectively, but they were attempting to get them repealed completely. Svartholm, having not appeared at the previous appeal hearing, had his original sentence of 1 year in prison set permanently.
All the defendants will also still have to pay their share of the 46 mil...

Police in Romania have arrested hacker TinKode, who is notorious for hacking into US military and government websites. The 20-year-old IT student, Razvan Manole Cernaianu, was accused of breaking into NASA and Pentagon servers, stealing confidential information, and then posting it on his personal blog.
Cernaianu also offered for sale software that he claimed would allow others to hack into these servers. He even demonstrated in videos how he carried out his attacks on the US government websites. Filed in: Intel

Intel’s upcoming My WiFi Dashboard utility will feature Wi-Fi Direct as well as other interesting options, according to a slide obtained by VR-Zone, which shows a screenshot of Intel’s new WiFi software. With different functions presented around a sphere-like object, the overall design sends reminders of old motherboard utilities that were usually more visually striking than functional.
Hopefully that won't be the case here. The utility's Wi-Fi direct feature will allow users to connect wireless devices in much the same way as they would currently connect them to Bluetooth. This means they'll be able to transfer files between devices and synchronize them with ease.

Seagate said in its recent fiscal second-quarter earnings report that it expects the flooding in Thailand to result in a continued hard drive shortage throughout 2012. The company originally reported issues after flooding affected its factories in October, 2011. In addition, analysts have suggested that the floods could increase laptop and desktop PC prices, and hurt overall sales for major computer vendors. Seagate said that it shipped 47 million hard drives during the second fiscal quarter of 2012, which was down just 4% from the same quarter last year. The company confirmed in its earning statement that it has already secured long-term deals to make sure prices don’t inflate further.

AMD A8-3870K Cracks 6 GHz with All Cores Enabled

Posted on Feb 02, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: CPUAMDA8-3870K

Overclocker "Christian Ney" of the HWBOT community claims to have cracked the 6 GHz clock speed mark with an AMD A8-3870K APU, with all four of its cores enabled. The feat consisted of a clock speed of 6067.7 MHz achieved using a base clock of 258.2 MHz and multiplier of 47.0x. The memory was clocked at 3505 MHz, just 95 MHz short of a world-record. The chip was put through a scorching core voltage of 2V. Supporting components included GIGABYTE A75-UD4H motherboard, and GeIL EVO Corsa DDR3 memory. The setup was cooled sub-zero. CPU-Z Validator rejected this submission, probably because like us, it finds 2V vCore and 258.2 MHz base clock unreal for Llano, since it uses a common 100 MHz clock ...
