AT&T declares war on unlimited data users
Like UnlikeFiled in: AT&T
AT&T’s stance on unlimited data is once again in the spotlight as a new wave of smartphone users cry foul over the carrier’s questionable policies. The nation’s No.2 carrier does not currently offer an unlimited data plan to its smartphone subscribers. Instead, there are three available data plans that include “soft” caps, allowing subscribers to continue using data services for additional fees after the soft cap is reached in a billing period. Users who have been with AT&T since before the carrier switched to tiered data plans — loyal customers who have in some cases maintained the same account in good standing for more than a decade — had the option to retain their unlimited data plans whe...

Samsung intros trifecta of Galaxy Duos in India, new Ace included
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy Ace
Sammy isn't taking its foot off the handset-making accelerator anytime soon. The company announced it's bringing three of its galactic machines along for an Indian ride, and while we'd previously met the dual-SIM packin' pair, the Galaxy Ace Duos is seeing life for the first time in its double-threat form. Sporting the same 832MHz CPU as its siblings, as well as a 3.5-inch display, 1650mAh battery and GSM / CDMA capabilities, the newcomer isn't much more powerful, but at least offers more screen real estate and an extra pinch of juice to get you through the day. All members of the family are rockin' Gingerbread and will start off at around $212 for the Y Duos and its Pro variant. As for the ...

PlayStation Certified HTC devices rumored for second half of 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSonyHTC
PlayStation certification for mobile devices has been an exclusively Sony-only affair up to this point, but today Pocket-lint is reporting that HTC will break that monopoly in the latter half of 2012. Citing sources in the know, the site suggests HTC will get approval to slap PlayStation Certified stickers on its products later in the year, though it's not entirely clear if that will apply retrospectively to devices already released or only to brand new ones. There's also no way to yet know if we're talking about future smartphones, tablets, or both.

PayPal considers NFC a step backwards
Like UnlikePayPal is working on its own solution of contactless transactions after it said Near Field Communication (NFC) would be left behind in a wave of new payment technology.
NFC is set to feature heavily in mobile devices launched this year and more and more shops are expected to support contactless payments via mobile devices. PayPal, however, has other ideas.
PayPal's VP of Mobile David Marcus told All Things Digital: "By the time NFC catches up, we'll be in a world that will move away from the point-of-sales terminal."
What's the big idea?
The eBay-owned company has instead created its own system which links your PayPal account to your mobile phone number and a pin code.

XFX Radeon HD 7770 Double Dissipation Black Edition Pictured
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsXFXFX-777A-ZDB4
Here is the first picture of XFX' flagship graphics card based on the AMD Radeon HD 7770 GPU, the XFX Radeon HD 7770 Double Dissipation Black Edition. The picture reveals that XFX is sticking to a slightly-modified version of the AMD reference PCB, its variations don't appear to go beyond a red-colored DVI connector. It's the cooler, where all the action is. XFX used a slightly downscaled version of the "Double Dissipation" cooler it designed its Radeon HD 7900 series graphics cards with.
The cooler appears to use large copper plate that makes contact with each of the aluminum fins that run the entire length of the card. These aluminum fins are then ventilated by two fans that spin at low s...

iFixit pries apart the Droid 4, strips slider to see its silicon insides
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaDROID 4
Verizon's Droid 4 was officially released last week, so naturally, iFixit spent the weekend pulling the phone apart for all to see. Among the nuggets of knowledge uncovered during the teardown is the discovery that the fourth iteration breaks from Droid tradition in a couple of not-so-positive ways. First off, Moto decided to integrate the keyboard into the motherboard, meaning if one of your keys quits working, you'll have to replace the motherboard, too. Not only that, but the Droid 4's battery is purportedly no longer user-replaceable, though iFixit's deft disembodied hands were able to pry it loose with some effort. It's not all bad, as the teardown did confirm that the handset does, in ...

Valve: Hackers Probably Swiped Sensitive User Data In November Steam Breach
Like UnlikeWhen Steam was hacked way back in November, Valve took the high road and immediately informed users of the breach. (Not that the company had much choice -- the hackers defaced the Steam forums as part of their nefarious deeds.) The baddies snuck into an encrypted database full of sensitive user info -- including credit card numbers -- but Valve found no evidence that any of the data was stolen or cracked. That's the good news. Now the bad news: the breach is probably worse than originally thought and the hackers may still have your credit card information.

Investment analyst sees big gains for NVIDIA Tegra 3 in 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: nVIDIA
NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset showed up in many early dual-core smartphones in 2011, and were the SoC of choice for the Android tablet market for almost the entire year. Yet the Tegra 2 was largely abandoned in smartphones by the end of the year, as dual-core chips from Texas Instruments and Samsung dominated later smartphone releases. And NVIDIA’s standing in the Android tablet market didn’t help it as much as anticipated, as Honeycomb tablets failed to gain significant traction, and the bestselling non-iPad tablet – the Amazon Kindle Fire – chose TI’s OMAP CPU over Tegra 2.
With Intel getting its first mobile chips ready to ship, has NVIDIA’s star fallen already? Not true, says FBR Capital anal...

BlackBerry 10 screens leak showing off the new UI
Like UnlikeFiled in: RIM BlackBerry
We still have a relatively long time to wait before the new BlackBerry 10 devices hit the market, but that doesn't mean we can't have a treat of some leaked images of the new OS right now. The images come from CrackBerry which received a document leaked from an external ad agency partner of RIM's. The document apparently is an overview of BlackBerry 10 with suggestions on how to create marketing campaigns, and of course the images.
The images show various BB10 screens running on what appear to be BlackBerry Torch 9810 and 9860 phones. The homescreen looks fairly nice with the relatively standard set of 4x4 icons, as well as a folder which is designed much like an iOS folder with small previ...
