HTC Endeavor has made 20+ carriers fall in love with its quad-core heart already
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCOne X AT&T
The upcoming quad-core battle ship from Taiwan, the HTC Endeavor, has reportedly already signed up more than 20 carriers for its sales cause, including the world's largest carrier by revenue Vodafone, as well as Orange.
The HTC Endeavor is supposed to feature a monster 4.7" 720p display, Tegra 3 with four powerful CPU cores for the heavy lifting, plus one low-clock for the standby tasks, and also sport 8MP camera and LTE connectivity. That's everything but the kitchen sink in today's smartphone standards, and hopefully the battery will be up to the task as well.

The PS Vita Will Be Sony’s Last Portable
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPSVITA
Sony’s PlayStation Vita will be launching soon. The portable will come with dual thumbsticks, a nice, big display, and a design that puts Nintendo’s 3DS to shame. And at a starting price of $249.99, it’s in the sweet spot for serious gamers who want a solid portable.
But just because the PlayStation Vita seems attractive, it doesn’t mean that it’ll be a winner. In fact, I’m a firm believer that the Vita will be Sony’s last portable, and the device that could very well put an end to the company’s entire mobile-gaming division.

Google TV Unveils Big Surprise Announcement
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsGoogle
It began with a simple posting on Google TV's Facebook page late Saturday night: "Get ready for Monday, we have some big announcements!" Within minutes, the tech blogosphere was alight with speculation. Could it be a Sonos-killing streaming media device? Maybe a TV version of Google Nexus? Some other type of new hardware? A software update? Nope. The announcement has been made, and the news was something nobody saw coming.
…an update to the YouTube app for Google TV. No, really. That's it.
And that's why you shouldn't get pumped for vague PR announcements. In any case, Google claims the updated YouTube app is faster and smoother than ever before, and a new Discovery feature allows you to bro...

TI Announces WiLink 8 Family - WiFi, GNSS, NFC, BT, and FM Combo Chip
Like UnlikeIt goes without saying that connectivity is a hugely important part of smartphones. After all, without some sort of network connection, you've basically just got an expensive PDA or PMP. Today, TI is making formal the WiLink 8 family, the newest member of its popular WiLink series of WLAN combo chips, which is built on a 45nm process. WiLink 8 adds support for GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System - GPS + GLONASS) and NFC in addition to WiFi, Bluetooth, and FM receive/transmit like we've seen in WiLink 7 in a number of devices.

MIT figures out a way to improve cellular reception
Like UnlikeEven if you live near a cluster of cell towers, cell phone reception can be uneven. But those Poindexters at MIT have a way to improve reception using Error Correcting Codes. These ECCs allow data to be encoded and transmitted without losing any fidelity regardless of how much noise is on the channel. The ECC sends out a codename in a test message, to check how much noise is on the channel. The louder the noise, the longer the codename. This becomes a problem on exceptionally noisy channels as it requires a long codename. And if the level of noise is fluctuating, the codename could be too short to make sure the data is transmitted correctly.
So after taking a timeout from playing Worlds of W...

Apple's shares break the $500 barrier, on the way to a trillion dollar company?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Despite fair labor disputes at its supplier factories and suggestions that the iPhone 4S won't sell as well as before due to being housed in an iPhone 4 chassis, Apple keeps on breaking sales records and it gets reflected in the share price.
It broke the $500 psychological barrier today, lifted with the broader market thanks to the Greek rescue relief, and now one Apple share costs more than a basic iPad 2.
A lot of analysts believe that the stock is still way undervalued for the performance that Apple is delivering, as it only sells at 14 price-to-earning ratio at this price. Compare that to Amazon, for example, which sells at 137 P/E, and made only quarter of a billion in Q4, dwarfed by Ap...

Leak: Photo: Motorola's first Android 4.0 smartphone has Intel inside
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMotorolaGoogleAndroid 4.0
Last month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Intel got up on stage and said that they’ve signed two hardware partners to use their new Medfield smartphone platform. What made us actually care about this announcement instead of just rolling our eyes, because Intel has been promising to enter the smartphone market every year for the past five years, was that they also showed off a production ready reference platform that companies could use to get a device out the door in little to no time. One of those two hardware partners, Lenovo, went so far as to show off an actual Intel based smartphone at the show, the K800. The other hardware partner, Motorola, said they’d be releasing a d...

Just how large is the Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAT&TGALAXY Note
We just got our hands on the review version of the Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T (check out our first impressions here) and there’s no doubt that this is a large phone. It’s tough to convey how large it is though, so we wanted to offer a few comparisons to popular devices to help your get your mind around what it means to have a 5.3-inch screen in your pocket.
First up is the iPhone – in this case, a Verizon iPhone 4 – and the 3.5-inch display that many of you either own or know the rough size of. The iPhone has a much smaller overall footprint than the Note but it’s roughly the same thickness, which is a credit to Samsung’s design. I found Apple’s iPhone to be much easier to use with one han...

Google's Motorola acquisition approved by Justice Department
Like UnlikeFiled in: MotorolaGoogle
The United States Department of Justice has approved Google’s proposed $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility, Reuters’s Poornima Gupta reports. The deal gained regulatory approval from the European Commission earlier on Monday, and a U.S. approval was expected to follow today or later this week. Google revealed its intention to purchase Motorola Mobility late last summer, pointing to the potential to create cohesive end-to-end solutions as one of the main draws for Google. “Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies,” Google CEO Larry Page said in a statement at the time. “Together, we will create amazing user experiences that sup...

Spotify update looking to suck even more data on your iPhone
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsAppleiOS 5
Spotify for iOS has gotten a pretty nice update which adds a new option for song streaming, although it could be pretty costly if you have a lot limit on your monthly data plan for your iPhone or iPad. The new option adds the "Extreme" song quality option, which will deliver songs to you at a very respectable 320kbps. Of course, it is likely recommended that you not use the new streaming option on mobile data, but the potential for misuse is there by adventurous users.
This is an option that has been in existence in the desktop versions of Spotify, but this is the first time it has been seen on mobile. There has been no word as to whether or not the option will make it to other mobile platf...

Apple's iPad outsells Galaxy tablets on Samsung's home turf
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungApple
It is estimated that Apple has sold more than 1 million iPads in the South Korean market, reports Korea Herald. The Cupertino-based company is outpacing Samsung by a wide margin, cornering 70% to 80% of the tablet market in South Korea according to the paper. The iPad 2 debuted in April 2011 and saw roughly 700,000 units sold by year’s end. Most South Koreans prefer to not be attached to a carrier’s data plan, as two out of three iPads sold are Wi-Fi only models. Many early adopters bought the iPad overseas before the device was formally available on the local market, so Korea Herald notes that the actual number of iPads in use could be far more than 1 million. Apple is expected to launch it...
