Bing announced that its mobile client for Windows Phone will get two cool features. Moreover, if you’re scanning some product, Bing provides you with local availability and cost comparison information so you can quickly purchase items of interest while on the go.
The second feature, Bing Image Matching for Newspapers, is a Bing Vision add-on that will be rolled-out in March. It allows people to quickly find the digital version of a print magazine or newspaper article. You will be able to take a photo of an arti...

LG Optimus LTE Tag with NFC announced in Korea
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesLGOptimus LTE
LG announced another LTE-enabled Android smartphone – Optimus LTE Tag. Initially available in South Korea only, the new phone is pretty much on par with Samsung Galaxy S II’s feature set, though LG’s device has a 5-megapixel camera (whereas the SGS2′s camera counts 8 megapixels). Heck, since it comes in white, we can’t say it doesn’t look similar to Sammy’s smartphone — then again, all modern phones look the same, sporting a huge touchscreen with very few buttons beneath.
Anyway, the Optimus LTE Tag comes with a 4.3-inch WVGA IPS touchscreen, mentioned 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1,700 mAh battery, 16GB of built-in memory, while...

Chinese court orders ban on Apple's iPad
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad
A lawyer representing Proview International on Monday announced that the Intermediate People’s Court in Huizhou, a city in southern China, ruled on Friday that distributors should stop selling iPads in China, Associated Press reports. Proview has claimed ownership of the “iPad” name in China and it says Apple is violating its trademark. “We bought Proview’s worldwide rights to the iPad trademark in 10 different countries several years ago. Proview refuses to honor their agreement with Apple in China and a Hong Kong court has sided with Apple in this matter,” Apple spokeswoman Carolyn Wu said earlier in response to the lawsuits. Proview is looking to prevent Apple from importing or exporting ...

More images of the Sony Xperia U surface
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony
The Sony Xperia U by now is not a secret - we’ve heard about it under its codename Kumquat, and now pictures of the smaller cousin to the Sony Xperia S have surfaced. The Xperia U looks nothing short of a downsized Xperia S.
The pictures below compare the 3.5-inch Xperia U, also known under its model name of ST25i, against the 4.3-inch Xperia S LT26i. As you can see yourself, the handset features the Identity design typical for the new wave of Sony handsets.
The Xperia U is expected to pack a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 3.5” screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and two cameras: a rear 5-megapixel camera and a front-facing one.

LG teaser could be for a new smartphone, or just about anything else
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesLG
Teasers – what a clever way for companies to build up hype around their products and services! The latest one comes straight from the official LG Facebook page and hints at something that could be a new smartphone, or just about anything else. There aren't any clues as to what LG is about to unveil, just hints that it has something to do with the letter L.
"GenuineLy Compassionate. Esteemed VaLue. Perfection with DetaiLs. TimeLess FuLfiLLment." – sounds like something right out of a Myst video game, doesn't it? Four seemingly meaningless tag lines with capitalized L-s.
One wild guess that we could make is that there is a new smartphone coming soon, perhaps known as LG Optimus L. We have seen...

Nokia Siemens Network, Qualcomm Prepare MultiFlow HSPA+ To Keep Data Signals Strong
Like UnlikeFiled in: NOKIASiemens
Our phones can do all kinds of things these days. Hell, millions of people — people from all different OS persuasions — are walking around talking to their phone. But even some of the most basic features — like, oh I don’t know… connecting to the Internet — could stand a few upgrades.
That said, the Nokia Siemens Network and Qualcomm are putting together a new network technology called HSPA+ MultiFlow. It’ll basically allow for one person to use the connection from two different base stations to heighten network efficiency.
So, in other words, if you were near the very edge of a network base station’s cell coverage, your phone would automatically connect to the next closest cell along with t...

We heard that ZTE was going to try to make a statement in the US with some high-end smartphones (it already makes plenty of inexpensive ones), and now the company has announced at least two that are going to be shown off at MWC next week. First up is the PF200 (pictured above), an Android 4.0 smartphone with a 4.3-inch, 960 x 540 screen and a 1.5GHz processor. It'll have an 8-megapixel rear shooter and a front-facing camera that can record up to 1080p video. Rounding out the specs are your typical assortment of radios as well as MHL (mobile high-definition link) and NFC. Congress passes bill allowing Wi-Fi over unused TV spectrum
Like UnlikeCongress has has passed a bill allowing spectrum previously set aside for TV broadcasts to be used for next-generation Wi-Fi services and Bluetooth. According to CIO, a portion of the band will be offered up for unlicensed use by long-distance ‘super Wi-Fi’ services. A separate portion of the TV spectrum will be utilized as a nationwide mobile broadband service for emergency services.
At the same time as setting a portion of the TV spectrum for unlicensed use, and emergency services, Congress also made provisions for the remaining available spectrum to be reverse auctioned by the FCC. It is planned that this will encourage private investment in a planned nationwide buildout wireless services...

Student hacks into Facebook, gets eight months in prison, twelve likes
Like UnlikeThe next time you get caught hijacking your friend's Facebook, remember it could be worse. On Friday, British Student Glenn Mangham was sentenced to eight months in not-so-social jail, for hacking deep into Facebook's servers. Apparently no user details were taken, with Mangham heading straight for "invaluable" intellectual property instead. Facebook alerted the authorities after it discovered the breach last May, the FBI then followed the digital thread back to the Briton's UK address. It's believed Mangham gained access to the inner sanctum after hacking into a Facebook employee's account, though it's not known if the comedy status update and embarrassing profile picture were also part of ...

Microsoft unveils new Metro style logo for Windows 8
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows 8
Microsoft officially confirmed the new branding for its Windows 8 operating system today. The new Windows logo, a play on the company's internal Metro design, will be used across the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. We saw images of the logo leak earlier this week, but the company unveiled it officially today stating that the logo is a Window rather than the traditional flag found in earlier versions of Windows. "We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic," says Microsoft's Sam Moreau.
The logo uses flat colors and clean lines and shapes to convey the message of Metro and will change color based on the core theme color used in Windows 8. "When you change your color, the logo ch...

CyanogenMod Android team ask for community cash support
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
You won’t see this sentence very often: CyanogenMod is asking for money. As you may well know, the Android community uses the modification to Android known as CyanogenMod more than any other custom ROM, hands down. And today they’re asking that you help them out with their otherwise free service by donating some cash to help support the purchase of “a couple of solid, stable Xeon-class servers with large amounts of RAM and fast disks.” They’re currently using PayPal, which is unfortunate for the apparent mobs of users boycotting the service at the moment (there’s a lot of overlap with the modding community) but you’ve got other options as well.
