It's Official: Barnes & Noble Rolls Out 8GB Nook Tablet for $199

Barnes & Noble on Tuesday officially introduced a previously rumored 8GB version of its low price Nook Tablet. By cutting internal storage in half from 16GB and reducing the amount of RAM to 512MB, B&N was able to shave $50 off the retail cost and sell the new version for $199, the same exact price as Amazon's competing Kindle Fire tablet, which happens to be the second most popular slate on the planet behind Apple's iPad.

Canon Set to Display at WPPI Trade Show

Canon is a leader in digital imaging solutions. Today, the company announced that they will be displaying many new products at this year’s WPPI Trade Show. The laundry list includes a broad range of professional photography, video, projector and printer products. Among the list are several new projectors from the company’s REALiS series. The company did not specify which models will be highlighted, but they did state that the projectors are known for their LCoS display technology and high resolution and high brightness levels. The trade show will be held this week in Las Vegas and Canon can be found at booth #401 and #1465.

If you're rocking an Android phone and a Google TV you may be in luck. There's an app in the works that would allow you to control your Google TV with your voice. The app will utilize the phone for capturing the commands and display the results on your TV using information like the time, date and your GPS data. If you ask "When's the game on?" for example, you'll get results for local teams. It's a pretty slick setup.

Samsung's LCD business is big, and thanks to the recent acquisition of Sony's piece of a joint LCD venture it's been getting even bigger. The folks at Samsung are through trying to manage such a big business within the greater structure and are spinning off a new company that's going to be handling LCDs and LCDs alone.
Of course, there's a much bigger benefit than just organizational ease. The upcoming launch of Samsung Display will allow the company to respond more quickly to customer demand, shift directions in a more timely fashion and, of course, focus all its efforts on one specific task. Shareholders still have to approve the arrangement but there's no reason to expect they won't. ...

Both the new HT-SL75 ($329) and HT-SL77 ($449) have the transforming feature and come complete with length adjusters and stands to support them while vertical. They each come with a subwoofer, but the sub on the SL77 ups the ante by going wireless. The SL75 is available now, while the SL77 won't hit until April.

We've seen MHL connectivity on receivers and TVs, but Sharp has packed an MHL port into its new BD-AMS20U Blu-ray player. The 20U also gives you built-in Wi-Fi, a processor that will clean up DVD and streaming video, and a front facing USB port. The AMS20U will be available in April at $199. If you can go without the MHL, the otherwise similar AMS10U will be available for $179 in March.

For 2012, Onkyo is expanding its lineup with four new entry level receivers and two HTIB all-in-one packages. The receivers all pack the brand new InstaPrevue (PiP preview of each HDMI source with fast switching) and MHL, while the three networked models are the first with access to MP3tunes cloud stored songs, as well as a number of other services including Spotify. LG is proud to announce that they were honored recently by the International 3D Society with a 2012 3D Technology Award. The award was given to the company’s Cinema 3D technology for providing a consumer-friendly alternative to the 3D technology. This time last year, Samsung announced that they will be including HBO Go to their Smart TV’s app store. Today, that announcement becomes reality as the company unveiled the new app is available. The app gives viewers access to the station’s collection of TV shows and movies. The app is compatible with a laundry list of Samsung TVs from their 2011 lineup as well as their entire 2012 collection. Unfortunately it is only available through participating television providers, which means if you don’t have HBO through your cable or satellite provider than you will not be able to access content through the HBO Go app.

Wonder what last year’s #1 HDTV company was? According to Displaybank and their yearly market share report, Samsung was the top company in 2011 with LG being a close second. Samsung managed to secure 20% of the market, while LG only captured 13% of the market. This is a significant improvement for Samsung whose percentage grew 12% between 2010 and 2011. One of the contributing factors is the LCD TV market. In the more specific plasma TV industry the reigning company is Panasonic, which has sold over 5.7 million TVs.

Sharp LC-80LE844U HDTV Revealed

Sharp has many new HDTVs lined up to release this year. The top of the line will be the LC-80LE844U HDTV, which measures 80 inches, diagonally. The TV was recently unveiled by the company and features full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and 3D technology. The TV joins the long line of Aquos HDTVs and features the relatively new Quattron technology that adds a yellow LED into the typical RGB grouping. The added color increases picture accuracy and creates bright and vibrant images. The TV will also include internet capabilities as well as the latest in 3D technology and 4 HDMI inputs. The LC-80LE844U is not expected to release until April and will retail for just under $6500.

Samsung announced at CES that they would be investing into the OLED HDTV market. Today they announced that they releasing their very first Super OLED TV, the KN55ES9000. The specifications are limited, but the company plans to release this TV in the UK around spring time 2012. That means that the UK can expect to see their first large screen OLED display in March or April. The screen will measure 55 inches, diagonally and will use an OLED display panel. Acer has unveiled the latest addition to their S Series, the S271HL. This 27 inch screen is capable of displaying full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and an 1100:1 contrast ratio. The monitor is designed to be ideal for both work and play with the large resolution and quick response time. The screen is powered by LED lamp technology. This ensures thin screen design and low energy consumption. Acer has included several connection options that include VGA, HDMI, DVI, and HDCP protection. Acer has not announced a retail price yet, but it can be ordered through certified retailers.

We already had a strong hunch that it was coming to US Cellular, thanks to the FCC, but now it's official: Samsung's iconic Galaxy S II is finally making its way to the regional carrier in the coming weeks for $230 on a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. This version of the GSII offers the same 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos CPU found in the original version, as well as a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), an eight megapixel rear camera and 16GB internal storage are also confirmed, though we think it's highly likely this unit will feature the same specs as the rest of the series.
