MIT App Inventor service now open to all Android developers

MIT App Inventor service now open to all Android developers

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG1

Continuing its revival of Google's App Inventor tool, MIT has placed the software into public beta. This follows the open sourcing back in January, and comes as part of a three-month project to get the Android app creation tool into people's hands. The beta is open for anyone with a Google account. MIT says it's suitable for "any use, including running classes," but as with any beta warns of potential stability issues — you should probably make sure you have backups of all your important app projects. If all goes well, App Inventor should become a full MIT service soon enough, with the institute pledging to produce resources and support to help budding developers get their Android apps out o...

Stuxnet source code could open a Pandora's Box of cyberwarfare

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG1

By now, you should all be familiar with the Stuxnet computer virus detailed last night on 60 Minutes. The worm, first discovered in mid 2010 after successfully targeting and disrupting uranium enrichment facilities in Iran, was almost certainly developed with US and Israeli participation. It's also thought to be the most sophisticated cyber weapon ever created having managed to elude the detection of Iranian plant operators even as it spun hundreds of centrifuges beyond their breaking points.
Now that the Stuxnet source code is available for download (it took a CBS producer about a week to find it on "hacking sites"), it can be studied and possibly repurposed and repackaged by any motivated ...

AVADirect Now Offers Mini-SSDs For Notebooks

AVADirect Now Offers Mini-SSDs For Notebooks

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG1

AVADirect recently began to offer Mini SATA SSDs for all compatible notebooks. This is an extremely convenient option for those who want massive amounts of storage and fast performance with very little affect to their wallet. These new Mini SSDs offer speeds as high as 220 MB/s per read/write with TRIM compatibility. The MINI SSD cards are installed in notebooks internally via the mini PCI-E slot, usually where wireless cards have been installed for some time.
The reduced size of the mini SSDs provide a form of durability that 2.5 SSDs are not able to match. We will begin to offer these mini SSDs as an option in all appropriate notebook configurations and will continue to update our selecti...
