Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H and Z77X-UD5H Pictured, Too
Like UnlikeFiled in: MotherboardsGIGABYTEGA-Z77X-UD5H (rev. 1.0)
Here are the Z77X-UD5H and Z77X-UD3H pictured up-close. The two form Gigabyte's upper-mid range and mid range offerings based on the Intel Z77 chipset, supporting socket LGA1155 "Ivy Bridge" and "Sandy Bridge" Core processors. The Z77X-UD5H is an extremely feature-rich offering, in some aspects a more complete package than even the G1.Sniper 3. It provides a 15-phase CPU and 2-phase memory VRM. Expansion slots on this board include two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/NC or x8/x8), one PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x4), three PCIe 2.0 x1, and one legacy PCI.

Seen below, the incoming Tahiti-based card makes use of Military Class III components (Hi-c CAP, SFC, Solid CAPs) and has an oversized PCB, 14+2-phase digital power, a Twin Frozr IV dual-fan heatsink, a backplate, and something called a GPU Reactor. Google mobile homepage now shows recent searches from your computer
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google has added a bunch of features like places and flight information to its iOS and Android search homepage over the past months, and today there's a new one: recent search results. While it sounds just like a boring old web history, it's actually more than that — if you search for a restaurant or other venue on your computer when signed into your account, you'll see a "recent" tab on the Google homepage on your phone that will show you that last search. The idea is that you can check your phone if you forget the restaurant you were planning to go to after you leave the house — even if you didn't write down the name, phone number, or address.

Nokia's 808 PureView won't come to North America
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA808 PureView
This doesn't come as a major surprise to us, but Nokia has confirmed that it doesn't plan to bring the 808 PureView to US or any other nearby countries. Buried deep within the device specifications page, there's a note about "global" availabilty — excluding North America. That's just as well, since Nokia stopped selling unlocked devices directly in the US last year, and no US carrier would be wiling to pick up a Symbian phone at this point. That's not even to mention the fact that Nokia confirmed last year that it would not bring any more Symbian phones to the US. Still, this phone's incredibly unique camera design was sure to attract some interest, but those people who want to give it a sho...

Microsoft Device Center beta released for Windows 8
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows 8
Microsoft has released a beta version of its Windows 8 Device Center. Designed with the Metro look and feel in mind, Device Center is a desktop application that lets Windows 8 Consumer Preview users control their Microsoft mouse and keyboard settings, combining the existing IntelliPoint and IntelliType software into one application.
Microsoft also revealed it plans to update its Touch Mouse for Windows 8 around the general availability of the new operating system later this year. We tested out Device Center with a Microsoft Touch Mouse and found that two and three finger gestures are limited to the desktop for now. The thumb flicking gesture works in Metro to navigate backwards or forwards, ...

Apple releases 'supplemental update' to Lion to fix Time Machine restore issues
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple's most recent update to Mac OS X Lion has been rather troublesome for users. Shortly after the 10.7.3 update rolled out, users started reporting widespread and severe app crashing, causing Apple to pull the update for a bit and roll out a modified download. Even that update appears to have had some issues — there were apparently problems for some users trying to restore from a Time Machine backup. This has caused Apple to release a strangely-named 'supplemental update' for OS X version 10.7.3, which just rolled out today. Fortunately, this update is a tiny 38KB download, but it remains to be seen yet whether this will fix the issues (or cause new ones). For the brave among you, you can...

Symantec reports Anonymous hack tool to be malware in itself
Like UnlikeThis week a couple of names in information security and the hacking of said information have popped up in relation to one another once again, Symantec accusing certain downloads of Anonymous web tools of containing malware in and of themselves. It is with the tools in question that the utterly massive hacker collective known as Anonymous is able to carry out DoS attacks with the help of users all around the world. What Symantec is saying today is that these tools, or at least some versions of the downloads of these tools, also contain malware that infects the user’s own machine at the same time as they attack others.

Unofficial VLC beta available for Android
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
An intrepid developer over on xda-developers took it upon himself to build VLC for Android from the source code, independent from the main VLC team. It’s compatible with Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich, although whether or not it’ll work reliably on your device is entirely down to the hardware lurking inside.
Rather than listing off dozens of devices, support is hinted at via chipsets instead. Users are recommended to check Wikipedia to see exactly what kind of chip they have in their device so they can download the correct APK. There are three separate APKs for different architectures: ARM11, Cortex A8, and Cortex A9. That covers a lot of different vendor chipsets, and thus devices, so c...

Google Wallet loses support on rooted handsets
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Those with rooted Android handsets will no longer have the ability to use Google Wallet after an update that began rolling out this weekend. Droid-Life learned that a new yellow notification bar began appearing on rooted Android handsets with the Google Wallet app loaded onto them, informing the device is no longer supported. A link to a web page explains that the app won't work because the handset's security has been compromised due to the presence of "unauthorized" software.
The first security flaw with Google Wallet was found on rooted phones, which Google quickly fixed. A fix involving PIN codes was relatively simple, but new ways of accessing the account in the future may not be as stra...

China Mobile claims 15 million iPhone subscribers without selling Apple's handset
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
China Mobile may be the world's largest telco with 655 million subscribers, but it's missing one major ingredient that any top tier carrier needs -- the iPhone. Apple's exclusivity deal with China Unicom is about to come to an end and China Telecom is going to start selling the 4S next week. Yet, China Mobile, the state owned behemoth, won't be joining the iOS fray officially until it starts shipping with an LTE radio (which we assume will happen next year). Still, according to the company, it has managed to rack up 15 million subscribers using unlocked iPhones on its 2G network. Perhaps most amazing, is that it was only in October that China Mobile announced it had 10 million subscribers us...

AOC d2357Ph 3D display sports 5.8mm frame
Like UnlikeFiled in: MonitorsAOCd2357Ph
AOC have announced a new monitor in their range, the 23” d2357Ph. Their new monitor is designed to take advantage of passive 3D technology, which means the glasses don’t need to be synced to the monitor, nor do they require an active power source. The d2357Ph is also capable of converting standard 2D material to 3D, if you don’t feel like waiting for Hollywood to convert all their classics.
The monitor also uses W-LED backlighting, helping AOC get the frame down to a svelte 5.8mm, although with the included stand that number grows to 10.6mm. Resolution is pegged at 1920×1080, response time is low 2ms, and viewing angles range from 170 degrees horizontal to 160 degrees on the vertical plane. ...

Police error adds Google, Facebook, and more to Danish child pornography blacklist
Like UnlikeA clerical error led to two Danish ISPs mistakenly blocking around 8,000 websites, including Google and Facebook, for several hours on the grounds of containing child pornography. Customers of the Siminn ISP who tried to access the affected pages were greeted with the following message:
"The National High Tech Crime Center of the Danish National Police [NITEC], who assist in investigations into crime on the internet, has informed Siminn Denmark A/S, that the internet page which your browser has tried to get in contact with may contain material which could be regarded as child pornography.
