As the Samsung vs. Apple battle continues to rage around the world, Samsung has been denied its request for an injunction against Apple. Samsung had requested a ban of iPhones and iPads in the Netherlands on the basis of a 3G patent infringement. The court determined that Samsung could not pursue a case against Apple products that use Qualcomm’s baseband chips because Samsung has a licensing deal with the chipset manufacturer.

Customers unhappy with battery performance of 4G LTE phones
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Prepare to be shocked. According to J.D. Power and Associates, some of the most unhappy mobile phone customers are ones with 4G LTE smartphones. The sole reason? Poor battery life. The data J.D. Power and Associates collected shows that dissatisfaction with battery life alone on LTE smartphones “greatly impacted” overall satisfaction of the phones. 4G smartphone owners gave their devices a rating of 6.1 out of 10 on average. On the other hand, customers with 3G smartphones rated their devices 0.6 points higher at 6.7. Battery performance for smartphones in general has resulted in a decline in customer satisfaction with LTE-equipped handsets from September 2011 when the average rating was a 6....

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA
When it comes to concept phones, they really run the gamut from reality to fantasy. In the latest render to hit the web, Tasak gives us a glimpse of the Nokia Lumia 1000 the way his imagination dreams it up.
He envisions this device to be running an Intel Atom 1.8GHz dual-core even though Stephen Elop recently said dual- and quad-core mobile phones are a waste of battery. Aesthetically, the device features a 4.3-inch AMOLED display, a slide out QWERTY keyboard with joystick, and a 41-megapixel PureView camera on the back.

Google Nexus S and Google Nexus S 4G both to get Android 4.0 update in the next few weeks
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleNexus SNexus S 4G
Own a Google Nexus S or a Google Nexus S 4G? If you are sporting either model, we have some good news. A source for Engadget says that the Android 4.0 update is coming to both models in the next few weeks. Of course, that doesn't give us a precise date to work with, but at least you know it is on the way. Pity the poor Motorola DROID RAZR owners who only know for now that while their device will get Ice Cream Sandwich according to the manufacturer, the update is so early in the process that Motorola can't even venture a guess which quarter it will be available.

Researchers talking to existing American and British owners found that the "sweet spot" for a phone was between four and 4.5 inches, as long as the phone was reasonably thin. About 90 percent of those asked chose a device larger than what they have, although the study didn't gauge how many would buy a larger phone if pressed.

Canada loosens foreign carrier rules, vows 4G for newcomers
Like UnlikeThe Canadian government has issued several long awaited decisions that will alter that country's telecommunications landscape. It has announced that it will open up greater ownership of Canadian telecom providers by foreign investors. It will also set aside 25 percent of an upcoming auction of prime spectrum for smaller carriers.
In its first policy decision announced today, the Conservative government's Industry Minister, Christian Paradis, indicated that regulators would allow more than a 46.7 percent in a wireless, Internet or landline provider. The investments however, would be restricted to greater ownership in a company which held a market share of 10 percent or less. This effectively ...

Sharp's apparent absence from new iPad LCD production was out of a delay, not an outright rejection, an insider claimed Wednesday. It was to contribute starting in late December, according to the Wall Street Journal, but it had problems tailoring the screens to make sure they fit. New shipments could start as soon as March.
LG Display had also had problems, the tip indicated, but had met Apple's guidelines. It wasn't clear if LG was already shipping the screens. None of the companies involved would comment on the authenticity of the claims.
