Verizon says (almost) 'all' future phones and tablets will be LTE

Verizon says (almost) 'all' future phones and tablets will be LTE

Posted on Jan 12, 2012 by MG15

In case you hadn't noticed, Verizon is going all in on LTE. And that doesn't just mean investing heavily in its network and snatching up spectrum left and right -- it also means making the 4G tech a "hard requirement" for all future devices. Outside of a few exceptions, primarily limited to its push-to-talk offerings, all upcoming phones, tablets and mobile hotspots will boast an LTE radio. Verizon's associate director of device marketing, Keith Lampron, assured CNET that the company isn't going to turn into an iPhone and Android only outlet -- Windows Phone and BlackBerry offerings are welcome to join Big Red, so long as they hop on the 700MHz train.

At CTIA 2011, the South Korea-based vendor showed off its TouchWiz user interface and promised an update for tablets in the near future. Verizon is currently pushing an over-the-air update that brings TouchWiz along with other fixes and improvements to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. TouchWiz includes numerous custom widgets, a mini app tray, and various “Hubs” for social media, reading, and music and videos. Other additions for the device include support for DivX vid...

Verizon's November Roadmap includes Galaxy Nexus, new Xoom tablets

A leaked Verizon road map suggests a November 21 “web only” launch date for the next big Android handset. This news comes after reports first suggested a launch on the 10th then that date switched to a Nov. 17 launch. Rumor after rumor seems to come almost daily, as Verizon keeps pushing the actual release date all over the place.
Maybe this Nov. 21 date sticks, especially since it happens to be on the same week as Black Friday and the release of the Droid Razr according to the road map. It would be a smart move for America’s largest carrier to release one of the most anticipated phones of the ye...

This hardware upgrade was to make it compatible with LTE. However it took much longer than many owners would’ve liked. When the LTE upgrade was finally made available, the XOOM was already heading towards obsolete status.
