The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray shows off its AT&T 3G bands at the FCC

Posted on Jul 12, 2011 by MG1

The recently announced Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray just made a trip to the FCC packing support for AT&T’s 3G bands that could possibly mean the arrival of this device in the US.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is mid-range device with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. It doesn’t fit in with the monster sized devices that are owning the market today, but the 3.3-inch Reality Display and thin design will surely find some takers somewhere.
Running the show behind the scenes is a 1GHz processor and Sony‘s Bravia Mobile engine. Around the back of the device is an 8 megapixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities.
Now it should be noted that even though this device does have support for AT&T’s ...

Xperia Neo now shipping from Vodafone UK in stunning red apparel

Xperia Neo now shipping from Vodafone UK in stunning red apparel

Posted on Jul 12, 2011 by MG1

Go ahead and admit it: ever since Sony Ericsson debuted the Xperia Neo, you've been concocting wild situations for exploiting the low-light imaging prowess of that 8.1 megapixel Exmor R sensor. Now thanks to Vodafone UK, you can actualize that vision for free with all monthly plans starting at £26 -- and score a ravishing red exterior to boot. With production back in swing for this Gingerbread-wielding handset, the only question that remains is whether you'll be cracking that bootloader wide open following the unboxing, or if you'll be waiting a few weeks before abusing the Neo's inner delights.

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc now available unlocked in the U.S.

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc now available unlocked in the U.S.

Posted on Jul 08, 2011 by MG1

U.S. residents have had to sit idly by as one of the best Sony Ericsson smartphones in recent memory, the Xperia arc, made its tour around other parts of the world. It looks like the wait has come to an end, as an unlocked version of the Xperia arc is now listed in Sony Ericsson's U.S. store.
This particular variant features 3G compatibility on the 800/850/1900/2100MHz bands, meaning you can get the most out of it on AT&T's network. Using it on T-Mobile will slow you down to 2G, EDGE speeds though, since it does not support the 1700MHz AWS band.

Sony Ericsson txt pro examined by FCC, 3G lovers shunned

Sony Ericsson txt pro examined by FCC, 3G lovers shunned

Posted on Jul 08, 2011 by MG1

Making it through the gauntlet of the FCC is often a very secretive process, since most manufacturers choose to keep the majority of details about a phone confidential. When that device in question's already been the subject of a large Facebook campaign, however, there's no point in staying quiet. This is the case of the Sony Ericsson txt pro (SK15a), a messaging device that came through the FCC's labs with the photos unobscured. The handset appears to be designed primarily for texters and -- given the lack of North American 3G or 4G support -- nobody else on this side of the pond. While the txt pro has GSM 850 / 1900 bands to make it compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile, it's likely geared for...

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, arc, neo and pro to get updated to Android 2.3.4 soon?

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, arc, neo and pro to get updated to Android 2.3.4 soon?

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by MG1

Sony's quartet of high-end Android smartphones including the Xperia arc, play, neo and pro might just have gotten updated to Android 2.3.3, but the engineers over at SE are already testing and working on delivering the latest version of Android Gingerbread, 2.3.4, according to an unspecified source quoted by SE-centric Semcblog. The update will bring bug fixes, but it will also patch some security holes and add new functionalities like Sony's audio filtering xLOUD technology to the handsets. It's expected to roll out widely in October.
The latest Gingerbread is not coming to earlier models like the X10 mini, X10 mini pro or the X8, but we already know that an unspecified version of Gingerbre...

Sony Ericsson Xperia ray listed online for pre-order with August 15 shipping date

Sony Ericsson Xperia ray listed online for pre-order with August 15 shipping date

Posted on Jul 05, 2011 by MG1

The Sony Ericsson Xperia ray was among the trio of smartphones that the manufacturer announced a few weeks ago, and thanks to its slim profile and attractive design, the handset probably managed to grab the attention of the ones who prioritize style over substance when it comes to their gadgets. Little was said, however, regarding the smartphone's availability, and all that we knew after the announcement was that the Xperia ray would hit the market at some point within the third quarter of 2011.
Fortunately, the British online retailer Play.com can shed some light on the matter as it already has the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, unlocked and contract-free, up for pre-order. The smartphone has an...

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray UK release date revealed

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray UK release date revealed

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by MG1

Carphone Warehouse has unveiled a Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray UK release date, with the handset expected to arrive in August.
The company launched the handset in Singapore just a couple of weeks ago, bringing an 8MP camera and 1GHz processor to its slim and stylish ways.
It also offers Android 2.3 and a 3.3-inch touchscreen and an array of exciting colours to choose from – black, gold, white and pink, but sadly no blue (Blu-ray, geddit?).
A Ray of light
Sony Ericsson had already noted that the Xperia Ray would land in Q3, so Carphone's release date of August is no huge surprise – but it is just an anticipated date, so subject to change if circumstances dictate it.

Posted on Jun 20, 2011 by MG3

Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the XPERIA X10 is scheduled to arrive in early August, though not everybody with the handset will get the new ROM. Those with generic trade models – i.e. sold unlocked and SIM-free – will get the update first (you can see Sony Ericsson’s demo of Gingerbread on the X10 after the cut), but only select operator-supplied X10 variants will get it after that.

Sony Ericsson Duo to be first dual-core Xperia phone?

Sony Ericsson Duo to be first dual-core Xperia phone?

Posted on Jun 20, 2011 by MG3

Sony Ericsson’s follow-up to the Xperia Arc has made its first appearance today on some Chinese forums. Though there aren’t many details on specifications, the Duo will likely be Sony Ericsson’s first dual-core handset, have the same three hardware keys on the front, and pack some familiar-looking home screen widgets. It’s probably safe to assume that the Duo will have an 8 megapixel camera as Sony Ericsson’s other high-end smartphones, but some comments further in the leak’s discussion thread are suggesting that there will be no flash.

Sony Ericsson signs deal with NFC chip maker, gets ready to do the Xperia play

If Google ever hopes to lead the mass exodus away from credit card transactions with Google Wallet, a lot more NFC-packing handsets will need to hit the market. Thus far Sony Ericsson hasn't exactly led the near-field charge, aside Japan's Xperia Acro, but it looks like that may soon change, thanks to a deal struck between the phone maker and semiconductor producer, NXP, which will bring the company's PN65 to future Android-based Xperia models. Wave your phone after the break to check out the official announcement.
