A copy of the user manual posted in the Notebook Review forums contains a number of images, showing off a black, brushed-metal chassis, a full array of ports, and an acutely-angled lip under the trackpad echoed by the laptop's hinge.

Some HP Envy 15 screens display orange where red should be

Some HP Envy 15 screens display orange where red should be

Posted on Jan 26, 2012 by MG3

If you're completely satisfied with your HP Envy 15, you might want to stop reading now. There seems to be a problem with some of the 1080p Radiance Display screens, and we're afraid it's one of those things you may not be able to unsee once you know the truth. Okay, here's the news: certain screens don't seem to be able to properly reproduce red and violet colors. There's a lengthy forum thread over at Notebook Review discussing the issue, and we've also confirmed it on our review unit (see pictures below). Some users also claim they received notebooks with excessive keyboard flex and dented USB ports, but it's the red / orange issue that has the most Envy 15 owners up in arms.

The netbook isn’t dead, HP reckons, but it is getting marginalized into business and education environments, with the new HP Mini 1104 targeting schools and suits rather than home users. A 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 machine running Intel’s 1.6GHz dual-core Atom N2600 processor with GMA 3600 graphics and up to 2GB of RAM, the Mini 1104 promises durability and performance for those who may be frustrated by text-entry on a tablet.

HP's Got a Crazy-slim Laptop Called the Spectre

Posted on Jan 05, 2012 by MG3

It's hard to go back to work after a few days off, but HP is sure coming back with a bang. The company this week leaked a video to Engadget that shows an incredibly thin laptop that's believed to be the newest Envy and the latest notebook to join HP's Ultrabook line. The video itself gives away little in the way of information, however, with CES only a week away, it's likely that HP plans to share more about this device in Las Vegas in just a few day's time.

Samsung could be preparing to purchase HP's PC business

Posted on Aug 24, 2011 by MG15

While Michael Dell laughs it up on Twitter, a new report suggests that Samsung could be preparing to purchase Hewlett-Packard’s PC business, which the company revealed it may soon spin off. According to a new report from DigiTimes, Samsung may be eyeing a purchase of HP’s PC division, which would catapult the South Korea-based electronics giant past Dell and into the No. 1 PC vendor spot globally. The report states that Samsung is currently meeting with various leading manufacturers including Quanta and Compal to investigate outsourcing the production of its own netbook computers. Samsung has held similar meetings in the past to no avail, but anonymous source tell DigiTimes that the company ...

HP Explains Decision to Shop Its PC Business

HP Explains Decision to Shop Its PC Business

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Hewlett Packard created more waves than a tsunami yesterday when the OEM confirmed rumors that it plans to dump its PC business, yet still managed to surprise industry analysts by announcing the end of operations for webOS devices, and specifically the slow selling TouchPad and webOS phones. Now that the the dust has settled, it's time to look at why HP thinks reinventing itself is a good idea.

In one of several press releases issued late yesterday, HP said it has the full support of its board of directors to evaluate "strategic alternatives" to its Personal Systems Group, "including the exploration of the separation of its PC business into a separate company through a spin-off or other tra...

HP TouchPad 4G for AT&T Announced

HP TouchPad 4G for AT&T Announced

Posted on Jul 13, 2011 by MG1

The HP TouchPad 4G has just been announced for AT&T, and this version will be sporting a 1.5GHz processor, which is a pretty nice bump up from the 1.2GHz processor that the Wi-Fi-only model uses. It has 32GB of internal memory and GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities, too, so it’s a pretty solid piece of hardware overall. And while it’s called the TouchPad 4G, it’s probably in reference to AT&T’s HSPA+ network and not its soon-to-be-launched LTE solution.
If you recently purchased the HP TouchPad with webOS, you might be feeling a little burned by the fact that HP announced a slightly more powerful model just weeks later. We have no clue why HP did that, but it’s coming nonetheless and it will be able...

HP plans major enterprise push for TouchPad

Posted on Jul 12, 2011 by MG1

HP straddles two worlds: enterprise systems and consumer electronics. Its new TouchPad tablet is intended to satisfy the needs of both. But you'll have to look harder and wait longer to see HP's unfolding enterprise plan for TouchPad.
The Wi-Fi TouchPad, running the WebOS firmware created by Palm, goes on sale Friday starting at $500 in stores ranging from Amazon to Walmart, the same outlets that handle its PCs and printers. But the tablet is "enterprise ready," says HP's David Gee, vice president of marketing and enterprise solution for the Palm Global Business Unit. He oversees the marketing strategy for all WebOS devices as well as development of WebOS-based "solutions" for business custo...

HP TouchPad security flaw already found

HP TouchPad security flaw already found

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by MG1

HP's recently released TouchPad is its first venture into the tablet market with a webOS device. Even though webOS is based on Linux, it doesn't mean that it is immune to security threats, and the first security issue has been found on the tablet, in just a week after launch.
The problem resides in the contacts application, where certain text fields are unsecured, and can allow code to be executed from them should the wrong people get their grubby hands into the device. This malicious code could reveal contact data or much more sensitive information and then send it back to a remote server.
According to the researchers who located the issue, the problem lies with webOS' inherent nature, sinc...

The team over at iSuppli has taken a further look into the production costs of the 16GB and 32GB HP TouchPad and determined that each device runs at approximately $306 and $328 respectively after all parts and labor.

This display was estimated to cost $69. Coming in at second was another display related part, as the capacitive touch screen costs $63.50.
