HP updates webOS for TouchPad, Pre 2 and 3

Posted on Jan 14, 2012 by MG1

HP has released new OS updates for its TouchPad tablet and Pre 2 and Pre 3 smartphones. The TouchPad gets webOS v.3.0.5, which offers faster switching in Calendar views, IM indicators, and quicker scrolling in Email. It also gets support for HTTP Live Streaming, the ability to toggle auto-correct on and off, and a handy typing shortcut - two consecutive spaces will now be entered as one space and a period, something that we have seen on many other smartphone and tablet systems. The update is going out now over-the-air.
As for HP's smartphones, the Pre 2 (unlocked and AT&T/Verizon variants) and the unlocked Pre 3, the company has bumped up its OS to v2.2.4. The update brings improvements with...

HP Pre 3 gets updated to webOS 2.2.4 to iron out some annoying bugs

It’s hard to imagine how many units of the HP Pre 3 are in existence throughout the world, but nevertheless, those fortunate enough to own a piece of webOS history are being treated to a rare software update.
Updating the handset to webOS 2.2.4, the maintenance update brings nothing more than some of the customary bug fixes to improve its usability. From the sound of it, the new update sizes up at 29MB for European Pre 3 owners, 10MB for the AT&T capable one, and 9MB for those who managed to scoop the Verizon one. Also included in the list for the update, are those who sport the unlocked version of the GSM Palm Pre 2.

Pre 3 owners greeted by webOS 2.2.4 update, eradicates some bugs

Posted on Dec 21, 2011 by MG15

Yes, friends, webOS is still alive and kickin' -- and no matter how uncertain the future may be for the open-source mobile platform, it's still cranking out fresh maintenance releases. This time, the Pre 3 is the beneficiary of an update to webOS 2.2.4. Though it's natural to be on the lookout for crazy new features, you'll find so such luck this time around -- it's just meant to offer some software improvements and bug fixes. Still, we're always happy to see signs of life with the OS.

HP Pre 3 death not exaggerated, FCC autopsy reveals Verizon life that never was

HP Pre 3 death not exaggerated, FCC autopsy reveals Verizon life that never was

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

While we will never see the Pre 3 adorning the AT&T shelves of phone stores, the FCC at least had the courtesy to investigate HP's final webOS device in detail, though we doubt they were able to conclude the precise cause of death. The full devastating teardown reveals some Sandisk flash storage, and a tightly packed interior. There's another interesting detail found in those external images, too. As a previous leak had suggested, this model was destined for the Big Red, with a not-so enigmatic Verizon logo etched into the metallic slide-out backing. The full internal rundown is in the gallery below. Tissues are in that box to your right.

HP Offers Refund to European Touchpad, Pre3 Buyers

HP Offers Refund to European Touchpad, Pre3 Buyers

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

The HP Touchpad's troubled saga continues: the company's European arm is now offering partial refunds to anyone who brought the tablet at anything other than the bargain-basement fire sale price. The refund is for the difference between that clearance price and the price that the buyer originally paid, and the same courtesy is also being extended to buyers of the Pre3 smartphone, which never made it to the US.
Some retailers, like Best Buy in the US, have already been offering similar partial refunds to anyone who bought the Touchpad before HP pulled the plug, but others (including Amazon) have referred unhappy buyers to HP itself. This gesture should help to ameliorate any remaining ill wil...

HP Pre 3 going back on sale this week

HP Pre 3 going back on sale this week

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesHPPre3

The HP Pre 3 was an exciting device - but HP probably never dreamed of such a wild demand with people hunting for it everywhere. In Europe, it has sold out quicker than out of the oven chocolate chip cookies, but now another batch is coming, this time of a slightly modified version of the HP Pre 3, targetted at the French market, as it has an AZERTY keyboard instead of the traditional QWERTY.
But that probably won’t stop buyers, who can check the Palm Eurostore where the device should appear for sale by the end of the week for the irresistible price of around $144 (89 British pounds) for the 16 gig model, $185 (115 pounds) for a 32GB version or $257 (159 pounds) for the 64GB Pre 3. HP offering up refunds for Pre3 and TouchPads

HP offering up refunds for Pre3 and TouchPads

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG1

HP has confirmed it will be offering refunds to all customers that bought TouchPads and Pre 3 phones before the huge price drop.
Over on its official site, it has listed the refunds available for every model of its ill-fated webOS devices, with customers offered the difference between that which they paid for the device and the new low shelf tag.
It's an odd move to see HP essentially giving away money – the Pre 3 was barely on sale in the UK and the TouchPad wasn't a huge seller, so the uprising against the price drop was never likely to be a massive problem to deal with, but the computing giant is clearly looking to draw a line under this with a gesture of goodwill.

HP Pre 3 UK price drop outed on official site

HP Pre 3 UK price drop outed on official site

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: Cell PhonesHPPre3

It looks like the long-awaited HP Pre 3 UK price has been outed on the official site, but won't be there for long.
We spoke to the official representatives, who told us that the page was 'likely going to be taken down soon' and the Pre 3 won't be put on sale directly.
However, and take this following statement with a HUGE pinch of salt, the chap we spoke to on the phone said that high street retailers 'such as The Carphone Warehouse and PC World' will be taking stock of the phone, although couldn't confirm the price would be the same.
A retro classic in the making
We're interested to see if this pans out - considering customer service 'facts' are wrong nearly every time, we're not holding ou...

HP Pre 3 Cancelled in U.S., Will Sell for $75 In Europe

HP Pre 3 Cancelled in U.S., Will Sell for $75 In Europe

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

The $99 HP TouchPad isn't the only amazing deal coming out of HP's fire sale on WebOS devices. The unlocked HP Pre 3 smartphone will go on sale "shortly" in both France and the U.K. for a mere $75 unlocked, according to HP.

As of this writing, the Pre 3 costs 349 euros ($505) in France and 299 pounds ($490) in the U.K., making the $75 sale a dramatic drop.
The phone is already sold out in Germany, HP said.

HP Discontinues webOS Handsets, Touchpad, and Entire Ecosystem

HP Discontinues webOS Handsets, Touchpad, and Entire Ecosystem

Posted on Aug 19, 2011 by MG3

Today HP revealed that they would be announcing that it will completely discontinue operations for all webOS devices. This affects the HP TouchPad and all webOS handsets. This does not mean that webOS will be cancelled altogether and forever, though it certainly doesn’t bode well for those who’ve invested in the HP/webOS combination in the meantime. This comes after less than stellar sales on the TouchPad and a request from Best Buy for HP to take back all their tablets.

HP calls it quits with webOS

HP calls it quits with webOS

Posted on Aug 19, 2011 by MG15

After acquiring Palm for $1.2 billion in April 2010, HP has decided to call it quits and will no longer sell hardware powered by the webOS software that was the key behind its purchase of Palm. In a terse statement, the Palo Alto based firm said, "that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward."

When HP bought webOS, the idea was to have the software in printers, tablets, phones and computers all connecting with each other through the use of the operating system. Instead, HP was slow in bringing products to market and when something new was produced, ...

HP Pre3 Makes Stealthy Entrance Into The European Market, U.S. To Follow

Posted on Aug 18, 2011 by MG3

The HP Pre3 launched in Europe today, and oddly enough, HP had very little to say about it. With the TouchPad price falling like a rock, you’d expect that its intended complementary device — and HP’s flagship phone — would launch with more fanfare. But instead HP let the device land in its EuroStore and gave a short response to PreCentral, the first publication to notice its availability. Either way, the most important thing is that the carrier-free smartphone is ready to roll.

HP's Pre 3 goes up for pre-order in Germany, shipping in '1 bis 2 Wochen'

Remember the Pre 3? The portrait slider HP promised it'd be hawking to webOS fans by the end of summer? Well it might barely make its launch window, but only if you live in the land of the autobahn. Currently live on the Deutsches wing of HP's online store is a pre-order page for the elusive smartphone which'll apparently ship in "one to two weeks." The localized variant is unlocked and comes with a QWERTZ (yes, Z) keyboard instead of the QWERTY we're used to. And, at 349€ (or around $500), the handset is considerably cheaper than when when we first spied it on Amazon.de in May. Taking the plunge? Feel free to send one our way, preferably with bratwurst and rösti in tow, danke.

Orange UK turns on its HP Pre 3 support page, still no launch date

Across the Atlantic, Orange UK has turned on its support page for the upcoming HP Pre3. Before Orange customers get terribly excited, the site offers nothing in the way of a UK launch date for the webOS device. On the other hand, it does confirm the specs on the device like the 1.2GHz dual-core processor, the 3.6 inch WVGA screen and a 5MP camera that captures video at 720p. Pre-installed is webOS 2.2 and 512MB of RAM is aboard. The HP Pre 3 comes with 8GB of internal storage but has no microSD slot.
