HP changes the processor in the Pre 3

HP changes the processor in the Pre 3

Posted on Jul 18, 2011 by MG3

In a move that has gone completely unannounced, it appears that HP has changed the processor found inside of the yet-to-be released Pre 3 from a single-core 1.4GHz to a dual-core 1.2GHz processor.
This info comes courtesy of the official Pre 3 specs page on HP’s product site. Previously, the Pre 3 had a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor listed as the chipset of choice. For unknown reasons, HP has instead opted to include a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor inside of the device. Perhaps the change of heart is the reason that the Pre 3 has seen delays.

HP Pre 3 set for August 31 release: bad news for webOS

HP Pre 3 set for August 31 release: bad news for webOS

The big brother to the HP Veer, the Pre 3, is now slated for an August 31 release date according to Play.com. While this still falls into the “summer season” promised by HP, previous reports suggested we’d see the webOS flagship by mid-July. Without the Pre 3, touch to share with the HP TouchPad remains a pipe dream unless you own the Veer. Will a late August release of the HP Pre 3 spell disaster for webOS?

Yesterday HP’s webOS boss Jon Rubinstein sent out an internal letter of support to both the TouchPad engineers and the webOS 3.0 development team. In the letter he reminds that, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” when it comes to refining webOS and the TouchPad. Unfortunately history has p...

HP's latest hope for the webOS platform on smartphones, the Pre 3, has been listed on its European web store for the cool price of 399 GBP (US$643) SIM-free. Availability is showing as out-of-stock, and unfortunately prospective owners cannot place a pre-order at this point. A release is hopefully not that far off, though, since the price has been set for the smartphone. As a refresher, the Pre 3 sports a 1.4GHz processor and a 3.6-inch, WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) touchscreen. HP had originally promised the device would hit shelves this summer.

HP seeks NFC engineer for 'smartphone and tablet products'

Posted on Jun 22, 2011 by MG3

HP's mystery-wrapped Touch-to-share functionality already does something very similar to Near Field Communication, but it looks like the company's not satisfied with its own tech and will be jumping into the rapidly growing field of companies embracing NFC. A new job listing that has popped up online this week invites applications for the position of NFC Design Engineer on HP's tablet and smartphone team. Responsibilities include the design, testing, and debugging of NFC antennae and systems, but also expand to "support of product in field," indicating that HP is working on an aggressive roadmap here.
