ASUS intros USB MS-100 speakers, HS-W1 headset

ASUS intros USB MS-100 speakers, HS-W1 headset

Posted on Dec 30, 2011 by MG1

Computer maker ASUS has just introduced two new USB audio products for notebook and desktop computers with the HS-W1 Wireless USB Headset and MS-100 speakers. The headsets have 70mm leather earpads for comfort and use 2.4GHz wireless tech that offers up to 50 feet of range. Users need to plug in a small USB dongle to send CD-quality wireless audio.
There are 40mm drivers and a built-in equalizer in each earpad, along with a noise-filtering microphone. A rotate-to-mute design is more intuitive than a small button, ASUS believes, as are the large on-ear volume controls. The built-in battery is said to offer up to eight hours of running time. The headphones fold and weigh 170 grams (0.37 pounds...

Hasbro sues Asus over Transformer Prime tablet

Hasbro sues Asus over Transformer Prime tablet

Posted on Dec 23, 2011 by MG1

Don't say we didn't tell you so: Hasbro sued Asus over the name of its Transformer Prime tablet last week, in a federal district court. The toymaker is no doubt worried that the name could be confused with that of its Transformers franchise, not to mention Optimus Prime, the lead protagonist of the animation and film series... though we're not quite sure how a robot that transforms into a semi truck could be confused with a tablet and detachable keyboard. Perhaps Hasbro is worried that tablet buyers might see it as a licensed product. Hasbro has already sent out a generic statement about its willingness to "aggressively protect its brands," and we're reaching out to Asus right now. According...

Transformer Prime heading to UK shelves next month, bundled with dock for complete transformation

Posted on Dec 19, 2011 by MG1

ASUS has excelled at building up the global Transformer craze, and although there's been a few hiccups along the way, the quad-core beast is set to start hitting shelves around the world in the weeks ahead. According to Pocket-lint, the Taiwanese company has given confirmation that the newest Eee Pad on the block is hitting Great Britain in January. You'll be surprised to hear that the Prime won't be coming as a lone wolf, instead being bundled with its mighty dock companion and priced at £499 (around $770 in Greenbacks) for the 32GB WiFI-only version. We'd offer you a look at our review in the meantime, but on second thought, that probably makes the wait that much more unbearable...

ASUS Transformer Prime launch delayed indefinitely, report says

ASUS Transformer Prime launch delayed indefinitely, report says

Posted on Dec 13, 2011 by MG1

ASUS has reportedly delayed the launch of its highly anticipated Transformer Prime convertible tablet. ASUS’s new tablet was expected to launch this week but Wi-Fi issues have seemingly set things back. ”The WiFi range on the TF201 did not meet our quality standards,” a spokesperson from ASUS Canada reportedly told Engadget in a statement. The spokesperson continued, saying that ASUS will not launch the slate until the wireless performance issues are fixed. The Transformer Prime will be among the first quad-core tablets to reach market when it finally hits store shelves, though ASUS did not indicate how long its solution for these wireless issues would take to implement. Pre-orders are still...

Asus Transformer Prime to launch on Thursday?

Asus Transformer Prime to launch on Thursday?

Posted on Dec 01, 2011 by MG1

One of our loyal readers, who wishes to remain anonymous, turned us on to an interesting video on YouTube. What the video doesn't say is more telling than what it does. The subject of the clip is a review for the Asus Transformer Prime. The last speculation we reported was that the NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered tablet would launch a week from Thursday on December 8th. However, after attempting to view the review, there is some reason to believe that the tablet could be released on December 1st which is tomorrow.
In trying to view the review, the video pauses and a message appears on the screen that Asus had requested that the video be put on hold until December 1st. If the manufacturer did not want...

Android fans could have a big day coming up next week as three sought-after devices are rumored to be launching on December 8th. Currently available for pre-order, the Transformer Prime is set to be the first tablet to tout a quad-core Tegra 3 processor when it launches next month. The 32GB tablet has a Tegra 3 processor under the hood and while recent reports speculated about it launching with Ice Cream Sandwich, it looks as though Android 3.2 will be installed on the Asus Transformer Prime out of the box. Best Buy is charging $499.99 for the tablet in both champagne and gray.
According to Amazon, the Asus Transformer Prime will be released on December 16th, and if that date holds up the 10.1 inch tablet will be available as a gift for the holidays. And what fan of technology would not lo...

Asus Padfone gets benchmarked, dual core Qualcomm S4 inside

Asus Padfone gets benchmarked, dual core Qualcomm S4 inside

Posted on Nov 23, 2011 by MG1

Anyone remember the Asus Padfone? It was announced way back in May of this year, only to be delayed until 2012 while Asus tweaks it so that it can run Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Google’s Android operating system. What makes the Padfone unique is that it slides into a tablet cradle, transforming the device into what’s essentially a 10 inch tablet. Whether or not the concept takes off doesn’t really concern us at this point, what we’re interested in is the Qualcomm S4 that’s recently been discovered to be at the heart of the Padfone. Thanks to someone who ran GLBenchmark on the Padfone, we now know that the latest revision of the device comes with a Qualcomm MSM8960, the first t...

NVIDIA demos Android 4.0 ICS on ASUS Transformer Prime

Posted on Nov 23, 2011 by MG1

Though we expect the ASUS Transformer Prime to launch with Android 3.2 Honeycomb on board when it ships next month, that doesn't mean that NVIDIA and ASUS aren't hard at work getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running on the convertible tablet. As proof of this, NVIDIA has released a demo video that gives us one of our first looks at Ice Cream Sandwich on a tablet and showcases some of the new features of Android 4.0.

Asus Transformer Prime gets its Smart Cover

Asus Transformer Prime gets its Smart Cover

Posted on Nov 21, 2011 by MG15

Think that the iPad 2 is the only tablet with a smart cover? Think again, with Amazon Germany listing such an accessory for the upcoming Asus Transformer Prime. So aside from the keyboard dock, this will be one of those must-have things to purchase alongside Asus’ Android tablet. The price is 39 EUR, which is roughly $53.

Yeah I know it’s not cheap, but you’ll be glad to know this magnetic folding cover is even smarter than what Apple is selling, supporting both portrait and landscape orientations at a variety of angles. Overall, the Asus Smart Cover seems inspired by an origami sculpture and is way more complex that Apple’s product. Not sure that’s a plus, but I certainly like more options...

Asus Transformer Prime announced: World's first NVIDIA Tegra 3 tablet is official

Asus Transformer Prime announced: World's first NVIDIA Tegra 3 tablet is official

Posted on Nov 09, 2011 by MG1

The time many of you have been waiting for has finally arrived. Not only have we just got our first real look at NVIDIA’s quad-core processor, the Tegra 3, but now we have more information on the very first tablet that will be using the snappy SoC, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime.
The Transformer Prime is a significant upgrade from the still-popular original. However, the Prime in its name is there for a reason. The tablet is being marketed as a premium tablet, and of course, it is. Because of that, the pricing for the Transformer Prime isn’t the same as the original, which was aimed at the mainstream consumer. That said, if you’re looking to be the cock of the walk with your next tablet ...

Asus Tranformer Prime tablet taken apart by the FCC, exposing the Tegra 3 quad-core chip

Asus Tranformer Prime tablet taken apart by the FCC, exposing the Tegra 3 quad-core chip

The Asus Tranformer Prime Android slate has been disassembled by the FCC, exposing the first quad-core ARM-based chip to enter a retail device, NVIDIA Tegra 3, aka Kal-El. If we don't count the ZTE T98 tablet, that is.
Asus did indeed make good on its promise to deliver the first quad-core mobile device by a brand name manufacturer, and Tegra 3 promises a lot, with better graphics and less power consumption leading the pack. Well, Tegra 3 is actually penta-core, but let's not be petty and counting.
Since the Transformer Prime will be as much as other high-end tablets at $499, but future-proof for 2012, Asus might again have a tablet hit on its hands, come November 9, just like it did with th...

Asus Transformer Prime release date leaked

Asus Transformer Prime release date leaked

Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: NotebooksASUS

An Asus slide has revealed the Asus Transformer Prime release date, which the company has set as 9 November.
Poor old Asus – only its investors were meant to see the slide, which also speaks of its Windows 8 tablet plans and the launch of two new Android slates in the first quarter of 2012.
It's good news for us though, as we'll be seeing the slinky-looking Asus Transformer Prime hit the shelves in just over a week, with plenty of shopping time left before Christmas.
Of course, there's no confirmation that 9 November is the Transformer Prime UK release date, but we'd hope it's a global launch, or that a UK release isn't far behind.
Dribs and drabs
Asus hasn't technically launched the Transfo...

If you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the quad-core packing Asus Transformer Prime then check out the set of photos that have leaked that show off the tablet and the keyboard dock in all their glory.
The Asus Transformer Prime is going to be the first device to feature the Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It is believed that it will also feature the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform but unfortunately the only screenshot we get of the software shows the lockscreen and nothing else.
The keyboard dock looks like it could be made of aluminum and gives the device an overall attractive look. The keyboard is said to be only 8.3mm thin. The tablet itself has a 10.1-inch display and doesn’t lo...
