Motorola XOOM 2 appears in U.K. ad as something for under the tree

Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

Over in the U.K., Carphone Warehouse is giving tech fans there visions of sugarplums and tablets under the tree for this coming Christmas. An ad for the retailer shows off the Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition as a special gift to give this Xmas. A sequel to the original gen Motorola XOOM (natch!), the tablet is priced at 400EUR which translates into $545USD. While no launch date was disclosed, the tone of the ad suggests a release before or during the holiday season.
So what are the specs on this tablet that Santa will be shlepping with him on his global trek? For starters, this variant of the Motorola XOOM 2 will have an 8.2 inch HD-IPS screen which makes it the smaller Media Edition model MZ6...

Motorola has shipped 100,000 Xoom tablets in Q3

Motorola has shipped 100,000 Xoom tablets in Q3

Posted on Oct 31, 2011 by MG1

Motorola shipped only 100,000 Xoom tablets in the third quarter of the year. The sad number comes from Motorola Mobility’s third quarter results and is revealing about the fate of Android tablets. It should also be noted that the company hasn’t sold 100,000 in the last trimester, the number is for shipments only.
And when compared with Apple’s iPad? The number is almost discouraging - the iPad recorded sales of 11 million in the third quarter of the year.
On the positive note, though, we recently heard that the 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet by Motorola is expected to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but there’s no set timeline. The tablet started receiving LTE under an upgrade pro...

Motorola shipped only 100,000 XOOM tablets in Q3

Posted on Oct 28, 2011 by MG1

Motorola Mobility reported its Q3 earnings report today and revealed a gloomy future for its Motorola XOOM tablet. The company had shipped only 100,000 units of the tablet in this last quarter, which is far less than the 440,000 units shipped in the quarter before as well as the 250,000 units shipped in the quarter of the tablet’s launch. It must also be noted that this is the number shipped and not necessarily the number actually sold.
In contrast, Apple’s iPad shipped 11.1 million units during the same period, far ahead of all Android tablet competitors. Despite this, Motorola is expected to announce a successor to the XOOM sometime soon and has recently begun 4G LTE upgrades for the curre...

Motorola XOOM 2 appears in Verizon system with LTE

Motorola XOOM 2 appears in Verizon system with LTE

Posted on Oct 28, 2011 by MG1

It appears as though Motorola doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice as a screenshot of the Verizon inventory system shows the unannounced XOOM 2 tablet with 4G LTE connectivity built-in and internal memory capacities up to 64GB.
The original Motorola XOOM only had access to Verizon’s 3G network and was sold with the promise that users could send it in to Motorola in the future to upgrade the device. This hardware upgrade was to make it compatible with LTE. However it took much longer than many owners would’ve liked. When the LTE upgrade was finally made available, the XOOM was already heading towards obsolete status.
Shipping the original XOOM without LTE out of the box was a mistake...

Motorola RAZR says hi to FCC with AT&T radios on board; Motorola XOOM 2 also visits?

Motorola RAZR says hi to FCC with AT&T radios on board; Motorola XOOM 2 also visits?

Posted on Oct 25, 2011 by MG1

The Motorola RAZR has made it past the FCC and inside it carried radios tuned to AT&T's frequencies. But before you AT&T customers start getting excited, the frequencies are also used by many Canadian carriers and it is expected that the Motorola RAZR will be heading across the border after it is launched by Verizon. The shared bands are GSM 850/1900 and WCDMA Bands II/V for 3G.
No one is ruling out an AT&T variant of the Motorola DROID RAZR as it would make sense for the Schaumberg based company to spread its flagship phone to as many carriers as possible. This is the MO that Samsung has used quite well with its Galaxy line of smartphones. Of course, AT&T has not uttered a word yet and nei...

Motorola XOOM to get ICS, but no definite timeline for update

Motorola XOOM to get ICS, but no definite timeline for update

Posted on Oct 25, 2011 by MG1

It's one of the more annoying aspects of the Android ecosystem, but one we must live with. Even if a device is less than a year old, we don't feel comfortable that it will get the newest update unless the manufacturer explicitly says so. Recently, HTC has confirmed that it will bring ICS to "as many" devices as possible, but that isn't much solace. On the other hand, Motorola has confirmed the update will come to the Bionic and RAZR at the very least. Now, it's looking more likely the XOOM will get the update, but we can't say when.
A source from the Motorola support message boards, which Engadget claims is a very reliable source, has confirmed that the Motorola XOOM will be getting the ICS...

Motorola Spyder and Xoom 2 turn up in more leaked shots

Motorola Spyder and Xoom 2 turn up in more leaked shots

Posted on Oct 12, 2011 by MG1

We've already seen Motorola's new Xoom 2 tablet(s) and Spyder smartphone (otherwise known as the Droid HD) turn up in a few leaked shots, and we've now received a handful more that are said to show both devices in their near final form. That includes a Verizon logo on both the front and back of the Spyder for the first time (though that's not exactly unexpected), and the Xoom 2 (the 8.2-inch version in this case) is said to be in "better shape" than the earlier prototypes, which had apparently been suffering from some rather serious bugs. As you can see above, the Spyder also has what appears to be a slightly more tactile back, which could well be the Kevlar coating that's been rumored for t...

Motorola Xoom Family Edition pops up at retail sporting kid-friendly software

Motorola Xoom Family Edition pops up at retail sporting kid-friendly software

Posted on Oct 07, 2011 by MG1

Now that Motorola's Xoom is ready to rock out on 4G LTE connections, the only thing missing from the original 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet is a nice suite of edutainment software... wait, what? Whether or not that's what you asked for, it appears to be what Motorola's giving you judging by this "Family Edition" branded Xoom that just showed up at a big box electronics store. While there's still no hint of the subwoofer-equipped Xoom 2 Media Edition that's been rumored, this model is differentiated by the addition of a Kid Mode with $40 of software for kids from Zoodles (trailer after the break) packed-in. We don't have a release date or official pricing yet, but we'd expect to see the MZ505 on...

Verizon's free Motorola XOOM 4G LTE upgrade process begins tomorrow

Posted on Sep 29, 2011 by MG1

Motorola XOOM owners who want to take advantage of the promised 4G LTE upgrade can finally begin to do so beginning Thursday. Once a customer signs up to receive the upgrade, Verizon Wireless will send the shipping instructions along with a box. The option is free and Verizon Wireless said changes to data plans are not required. Verizon also advises that XOOM owners back up their devices before sending them in for the upgrade. The process is expected to take six business days. Verizon Wireless also announced on Wednesday that it will begin to sell the Motorola XOOM with 4G LTE pre-installed for $499.99 starting October 13th. Read on for the full press release.

Motorola DROID RAZR (Spyder), ATRIX 2, XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition tablet leaked

Posted on Sep 27, 2011 by MG1

Motorola may have big plans for the holiday season, at least according to a few new leaks from This is my next. Official press shots of the AT&T ATRIX 2 and its brand new Laptop Dock 100 accessory were spilled recently, as were details on an unannounced Motorola Spyder smartphone and two models of the XOOM 2 tablet. Last week we published an exclusive first look at the ATRIX 2 and now several of the phone’s specs have supposedly been confirmed. It is equipped with a 4.3-inch display with a qHD resolution, 8GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. Details on the Laptop Dock 100 are still slim but This is my next did report that it has a smaller 10.1-inch display. Hit the break for...

Motorola Xoom 2 tablets get snapped again

Motorola Xoom 2 tablets get snapped again

Posted on Sep 26, 2011 by MG1

The recently-snapped Motorola Xoom 2 has now enjoyed a thorough photo-shoot, with the new pictures revealing a second slate and more of its buttons.
No need to squint with these shots, with the anonymous photographer obviously au fait with focusing a camera.
The shots show off the tablets' various buttons in all their glory – the volume slider and what is likely the power/screen lock button are mounted on the curved edge of the slate towards the back.
There's also a camera with LED flash and a sticker announcing the models' code names, with both coming under the Fleming sobriquet and purported to support LTE connectivity.
The next-gen Xooms also come with 8.2-inch screens and seems to be ver...

Leak: 10.1 inch and 8.2 inch second generation Motorola Xoom tablets

Leak: 10.1 inch and 8.2 inch second generation Motorola Xoom tablets

Remember the Motorola Xoom, the fist Android Honeycomb tablet to hit the market? Don’t worry if you don’t. It was a horrible product, and pretty much every Android tablet after it, except for maybe the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer, has been equally as bad. It’s not that Android tablets are built poorly, it’s just Honeycomb is so … there’s no word to express the amount of disappointment we have for the obviously rushed OS Google put out there. On a lighter note, we’ve got some information to share about the successor to the Xoom, aptly called the Xoom 2.

Motorola XOOM 2 to be iPad-2-thin, first with Adobe Flash 11 and Netflix HD streaming onboard

More details have been spilled about the upcoming second edition of the Google's tablet OS poster child, the Motorola XOOM. Dubbed simply the XOOM 2, the tablet is supposed to have a 9mm thick chassis. While not the thinnest out there, this slim built is just a hair north of the anorexic iPad 2, so no complaints in the looks department.

Motorola's next Android tablet spotted, 7-inch display possible

Motorola's next Android tablet spotted, 7-inch display possible

Posted on Sep 20, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: TabletsMotorola

Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha has noted his company’s intentions to launch a 7-inch tablet a number of times, and images of the device may have just broken cover. This is my next leaked a photo of a white tablet on Monday that, if compared to the size of the unknown phone in the background, appears to sport a 7-inch form factor. A Motorola Mobility logo is slightly visible on the top-left of the tablet and there are two I/O ports on the bottom, presumably microUSB and HDMI-out. It is possible this is an Android Honeycomb tablet, although that is still unconfirmed. It is also still unclear when the tablet will be announced, if ever, or what kind of hardware it packs under the hood.
