HTC's Future: Slim Phones, Less QWERTY, Wi-Fi Display

SEATTLE—With HTC's One S and One X getting glowing reviews, it looks like more slim, touchscreen slabs are in the smartphone maker's future.
Here at Frequencies, a bloggers' event thrown by HTC, top HTC designers have been laying out the company's choices. HTC is picking slim phones over huge batteries, camera quality over megapixels, pure touchscreen phones over QWERTY, and is seriously looking at Wi-Fi Display for the future, executives said.
The most controversial quote of the day came when HTC's vice president of phone strategy Bjorn Kilburn said that the company had rejected models with giant 3000mAh batteries similar to the one attached to the Motorola Razr Maxx.

HTC EVO 3D retired from Sprint’s lineup

HTC EVO 3D retired from Sprint’s lineup

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

While we mentioned the other day that the HTC EVO 3D was part of Amazon’s penny sale until the end of the month, it looks like glasses-free 3D handset has gone missing elsewhere – Sprint’s website.
It makes sense considering the EVO 4G LTE’s debut is just around the corner, but it is interesting that it was just here one day, gone the next. The folk over at Android Police reached out to Sprint to find out what happened to the Android device. Sprint responded by saying,

Radio Shack to start taking pre-orders for the AT&T HTC One X on Sunday for $149

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

If you were thinking about pre-ordering the AT&T variant of the HTC One X, you should know that according to a leaked internal memo Radio Shack plans on accepting pre-orders for the phone starting on Sunday, the sane date that AT&T will commence accepting pre-orders for the device. There will be a couple of differences, however. While AT&T is accepting the pre-orders at the price of $199.99 with a signed 2-year pact, Radio Shack is taking the orders at a lower $149.99, with the same 2-year contract of course. Furthermore, and this might be the deal clincher for some, if you pre-order your HTC One X from Radio Shack, your receipt will have a special code allowing you to download seven Coldpla...

HTC One X available today on Rogers for $170 with a three-year contract

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

We know Yanks using AT&T's network will be getting their own flavor of the HTC One X early next month, thus it's only appropriate for the neighbors up north to get a taste of the same smartphone medicine. Thanks to Rogers, those of you in Canada will be able to get your hands on this Sense 4, ICS-filled handset as soon as today. Rogers says HTC's One kin is coming as an exclusive to its shop, currently listing it for $169.99 on "select" three-year deals or $624.99 without any attachments. Keep in mind, this specific model's loaded with the Snapdragon S4 chip, which is slightly different than the One we reviewed a few weeks back. However, if all those cores don't make a difference to you, the...

HTC One V launch date confirmed

HTC One V launch date confirmed

Posted on Apr 17, 2012 by MG1

If the HTC One X and One S are just a little bit out of your price range, then HTC has you covered with the One V. It’s not packing a lot of power in terms of specs, but the hardware and software experience aren’t too far removed from what you would get with the more expensive phones. Carphone Warehouse has just announced pricing and availability information for the One V in the UK.
You’ll be able to pre-order the HTC One V starting from today, with the handset being free on £20.50 a month tariffs. Carphone Warehouse will be offering the phone on O2, Orange, and Vodafone contracts, with tariffs naturally becoming more expensive if you want more minutes or data.

AT&T to launch HTC One X within a week

AT&T to launch HTC One X within a week

Posted on Apr 17, 2012 by MG1

We have been informed by a trusted source that HTC’s One X, one of the best smartphones ever to come out of Taiwan, will be available on AT&T as early as this week. We have also been told that AT&T may announce availability details tomorrow, and that the handset’s release should follow within five to seven days of the carrier’s announcement. AT&T’s version of the HTC One X swaps out the quad-core Tegra 3 processor for a dual-core Snapdragon CPU in order to accommodate 4G LTE connectivity, but unlike the complete redesign we saw on Sprint’s EVO 4G LTE, the AT&T version should be nearly identical to the international model.

HTC One S to launch via T-Mobile on April 25th according to training slides

HTC One S to launch via T-Mobile on April 25th according to training slides

Posted on Apr 10, 2012 by MG1

Carriers just don't throw a device on the floor and say to the reps, "go sell it." There is training involved as the reps learn all they can about a specific device. Apparently, T-Mobile reps have just through a presentation on the HTC One S and leaked shots of some of the slides used in the training session show that the nation's third largest carrier will be launching the device on April 25th. This dovetails with earlier reports that the phone would be launching late this month.

Best Buy says ICS for the RAZR delayed, Rezound still on for Friday

Best Buy says ICS for the RAZR delayed, Rezound still on for Friday

Posted on Apr 06, 2012 by MG1

Droid-Life got ahold of an internal employee memo Best Buy sent out yesterday, updating employees on the status of Ice Cream Sandwich updates for some of Verizon’s most popular phones. First, Best Buy told employees what we already reported to you – that the updates headed to the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX aren’t going to be ICS, they will be bug fixes.
We’re not sure that translates as ICS being “delayed”; there was never anything but speculation that today’s soak test for RAZR devices would be Android 4.0, so Best Buy may have simply jumped the gun with their previous announcement.

HTC EVO 4G LTE promo video released

HTC EVO 4G LTE promo video released

Posted on Apr 06, 2012 by MG1

We’re fresh off of yesterday’s announcement of the HTC EVO 4G LTE on Sprint. It looks like HTC is wasting no time promoting the newest addition to its EVO lineup.
As you can see from the video below, HTC is showcasing its latest Android handset, which is only 8.9mm thick, with an elegant video that compares its sleekness to that of a pin.
The HTC EVO 4G LTE sports a 4.7-inch S-LCD 2 display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 1GB RAM, an 8MP camera with 1080p video, Android 4.0, and, of course, 4G LTE connectivity.

HTC EVO 4G LTE US bound, but not UK

HTC EVO 4G LTE US bound, but not UK

Posted on Apr 05, 2012 by MG1

Damn those Americans. They get all the good stuff.
Not content with Disneyland and oversized burgers, HTC has unveiled its latest member of the EVO series, the HTC EVO 4G LTE, and it’s only coming to the US.
The smartphone that packs a domineering 4.7-inch HD display will be available exclusively from Sprint for $199.99, despite the fact the US network doesn’t currently have LTE capabilities.
However, as the phone won’t be out until the summer we assume this will give Sprint time to get its house in order.

HTC One X and One S come to Orange, T-Mobile on Thursday

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

If you've already decided whether you're Team One X or Team One S, and live in the UK, then get ready to flex the plastic on Thursday. Both T-Mobile and Orange have announced that's the day you can pick one up in store and online (and even over the phone if that's how you roll.) Both networks are offering the One X for free if you don't mind paying £41 a month, or you can scoop up the One S for a slightly more reasonable £36 -- if you're okay with the smaller screen estate and number-of-core bragging rights.

Canada's Rogers Wireless HTC One X pre-order now live, could be yours for $169.99 on a 3-year contract

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

Rogers Wireless has opened the floodgates and is now accepting pre-orders for the HTC One X, asking $169.99 for the device along a new three-year contract commitment. Canadian carriers are known for their way-too-long contracts but I guess not many folks mind that since that practice continues to live on all networks.
