Kodak announces new still and video cameras

Kodak announces new still and video cameras

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

Kodak is unveiling two new cameras today, adding a model to both the EasyShare and PlayFull lineups. While certainly not the “reboot” we were hoping for from this company, the two cameras are at least pretty cool in their own right.
First up is the EasyShare Wireless, a b/g/n wi-fi equipped ultracompact capable of transmitting captured stills and videos to a nearby computer or wireless printer, without the need for cables or memory card swapping. iPhone tethering is also possible, which will allow remote data transfer from almost anywhere. Essential specs include a 16 megapixel CCD sensor (1/2.3-type), 5x optical zoom, ISO sensitivity up to 1600, and a full suite of in-camera effects and sce...

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

Sony announced their latest high-end 3D camcorder today at CES 2012 in Las Vegas. The HDR-TD20V Handycam replaces the TD10 as the company’s most full-featured and highest-priced consumer 3D camcorderLike its predecessor, this will be a Double Full HD 3D camcorder with an autostereoscopic 3D (glasses-free) playback monitor. Last season, the TD10’s 3D playback monitor was the best in the industry (although it still wasn’t great), so we’re excited to see what improvements this new model will bring. Video recording in either 24p or 60p is available, as well as regular 60i recording. Still image capture of up to 20 megapixels is also possible, though in the past Sony has relied on heavy interpola...

Panasonic adds three full HD camcorders to 2012 lineup

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

Panasonic added three new Full HD camcorders to their lineup today. The three new camcorders include the HC-V700, HC-V500, and HC-V100, and all three models include single CMOS chips with designs that built upon last year’s models. In addition to a few updates, it appears Panasonic made some administrative changes with its new lineup—this new year ushers in a new naming scheme and sees hard drives eliminated as a built-in memory option.

Panasonic pulled back the curtain on their latest flagship camcorder today—the HC-X900M—another evolutionary upgrade to the top end of their consumer lineup.
The HC-X900M replaces last year’s HDC-TM900, with which it shares most of its specs. It’s built around three separate 1/4.1-inch backlit CMOS sensors, one for each RGB color channel (the so-called 3MOS system, though as we’d expect, there have been some tweaks to the setup).

Kodak rolls out Playfull Waterproof rugged pocket video cam

Kodak rolls out Playfull Waterproof rugged pocket video cam

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Kodak picked Friday to show a different take on its pocket camcorders. The Playfull Waterproof is a cousin to the original Playfull that trades some performance for hardening against conditions. Although it drops from 1080p down to 720p, it can survive underwater depths of up to 10 feet for two hours, or enough to fill much of the sometimes bundled 4GB SDHC card.

SanDisk launches 64GB microSD card

SanDisk launches 64GB microSD card

Posted on Sep 21, 2011 by MG1

SanDisk has announced a massive upgrade to its microSD line-up, with the arrival of the SanDisk Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC card.
SanDisk isn't the first to announce this type of capacity in the microSD format – Kingmax earns that crown – but it will be the first to market for a whopping $219.99 (£139).
Thanks for the memory
The new cards use the SDXC format which was only announced back in 2009.
Because of this, there are little-to-no phone manufacturers that have come out to say their handsets support the format – most are compatible with the less capacious SDHC variant.
Given that SDXC can potentially hold up to 2TB of data and it is seen as the future for microSD, however, we should see ...

JVC Announces New Professional Handheld Camcorder: the GY-HM150

JVC Announces New Professional Handheld Camcorder: the GY-HM150

Posted on Sep 12, 2011 by MG1

With the GY-HM150, JVC is continuing its trend of offering compact and portable options for professional filmmakers. The GY-HM150 inherits its condensed design from the previous GY-HM100, which we reviewed a few years ago at CamcorderInfo.com. The GY-HM150 offers a new encoder and processor in an attempt to improve HD recording quality, as well as provide support for standard definition recording.
Like the GY-HM100, the GY-HM150 includes three 1/4-inch CCD image sensors, which is something that sets it apart from JVCs consumer-grade camcorders (usually equipped with a single CMOS sensor) The GY-HM150 can record Full HD video at a 1920 × 1080 resolution, as well as 720p HD video and 480i stan...

Panasonic creates HDC-Z10000 AVCHD 2.0 compatible 3D HD camcorder

Panasonic creates HDC-Z10000 AVCHD 2.0 compatible 3D HD camcorder

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG3

Panasonic has announced the HDC-Z10000 an integrated twin-lens 2D/3D camcorder that can shoot in the AVCHD 3D/Progressive standard. The camera features a parallax-barrier LCD that allows the 3D footage to be reviewed on-camera without the need for special glasses. Its adoption of the latest AVCHD standard allows it to shoot 1080p60 footage in 2D and up to 1080i60 in 3D, as well as offering 30p and 24p options. The camera essentially combines two of the company's 3MOS camcorders in a single body, offering 30-369 equivalent F1.5-2.8 zooms (32-320mm in 3D mode), stabilized for both 2D and 3D shooting.

Toshiba announces Camileo Clip, X200 and X400 camcorders

Toshiba announces Camileo Clip, X200 and X400 camcorders

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

Not surprisingly, Toshiba is covering all the bases at IFA today, with it now also announcing its latest batch of camcorders. That includes the Camileo Clip pictured above (which actually has a clip 'round back for hands-free shooting), as well as the more traditional Camileo X200 and X400, all three of which record 1080p video and rely exclusively on SD cards for storage. The X200 and X400 also, of course, steps things up quite a bit in terms of features, the standout ones being a 12x optical zoom on the X200 and a 23x zoom on the X400. Still no word on prices for any of them, but Toshiba says they'll be available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year (in Europe, at least). Hit the PR...
