Good news if you own an Amaze 4G smartphone from HTC. For those of you who do, HTC just released an update to Android 4.0, the latest and greatest open source mobile operating system from Google more deliciously known as Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Owners of HTC's Thunderbolt and Desire HD smartphones aren't as lucky, having to wait perhaps until August, or longer, receive an ICS upgrade, according to HTC's newly published Android 4.0 roadmap.

Canada’s TELUS is rolling out an OTA update for the HTC Desire HD, bringing the smartphone up to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Aside from the “standard” features Gingerbread brings to the table such as improved copy/paste, UI refinements, improved power management and video calls support, there are some Desire HD specific stuff included, most notably the new version (3.0) of the HTC Sense UI. Moreover, there’s the HTC Watch app from where you can rent or buy the latest movies and shows, as well as a number of bug fixes under the hood that improve the stability of the device.

HTC Desire HD gets a small update (2.50.405.2) that brings "Wi-Fi performance improvements"
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCDesire HD
HTC Desire HD is getting a small firmware update as we speak. This “after Gingerbread” firmware changes are said to bring “Wi-Fi performance improvements” though we guess some other things under the hood will be impacted as well. After all, 19.8MB is kinda big download for such a minor improvement (at least the way I see it). Either way, we’ve no idea what’s all included here, but we do suggest you to “push the button” nevertheless and bring your Desire HD’s firmware version to 2.50.405.2. It’s a good practice to have the latest software running on your phone and I don’t see why this should be an exception.
Still this (because it’s a small update) doesn’t mean you shouldn’t backup first. Som...

Orange UK's HTC Desire HD getting Android 2.3 update as we speak
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsHTCOrangeGoogleDesire HDAndroid 2.3
Orange UK and HTC have started rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for the Desire HD. If you’re in the “affected” group you can already check to see whether a new update is available. If it isn’t – don’t worry. I’m sure HTC’s servers are dying at the moment as the company tries to push the software to all users.
You probably know what Gingerbread brings, so I won’t repeat it here. Still I’ll mention the improved Copy/Paste which actually makes the functionality usable.
As usual, we remind you it’s good practice to backup all of your PIM data (contacts and calendars) before updating. Your stuff may be in the cloud, but having a local copy is always a plus. When you’re done with that —...
