Verizon Data Plans Leaked, No More Unlimited Packages
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon Wireless
We already knew that Verizon was abandoning its unlimited 3G and 4G data plans in favor of tiered packages, and a leaked customer brochure details the new options. Of course, if you’re currently a Verizon customer with an unlimited data plan, it will be grandfathered indefinitely or for as long as you keep your Verizon line.
These data packages apply to smartphones and basic phones. If you go over your allotted plan for the $10/75MB package, you’re charged an additional $10 per 75MB, and you’ll be charged $10 for every 1GB over the higher-tiered plans. And, as expected, you won’t be able to use that data for mobile hotspot or tethering capabilities. If you want to use your device to tether, ...

Verizon data charges leak continues, $30 tethering for 4G customers
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon Wireless
The scan above purports to show a Verizon customer brochure that will appear in stores next Thursday, revealing nothing beyond the detailed leaks we've already reported but at least providing some reassuringly crinkled corroboration of the salient details. New customers will barred from the happy land of unlimited data, and will instead have to cough up tiered monthly fees ranging from $10 for 75MB up to $80 for 10GB, plus an extra $20 for tethering rights. In a separate turn to this tale, we hear that customers who want to tether to a 4G handset will have to pay $30 per month to keep Big Red happy. This might come as a shock if you've been living it up on the free tethering offer that ends ...

Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 available for preorder
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Tab 10.1
If you really wanted a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but wished it had mobile data connectivity built it, you’ll be happy to know that the Verizon 4G LTE version is now available in preorder. There are a few caveats though.
The first issue is that the Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 won’t ship for at least a month, as the company is quoting 4-6 weeks before it will get to you. If you love your gadgets as much as we do, that’s going to be a long, long time to wait.
The second issue that some of you may come up against is price. The Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 will start at $529 for the 16 GB model and $629 for the 32 GB version. That’s not much more than the WiFi-only model but these come saddled...

Verizon's LTE fastest, T-Mobile takes second place, while AT&T provides in rural America

PC Mag just finished its extensive annual test of the nation's carrier networks, and the results are in. After driving with six people for 6000 miles, and using 16 smartphones in the process, more than 140 000 tests were made in 21 major cities, with specialized software supplied by Sensorly, to measure the network coverage and speeds of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS and Cricket.
Without going much into the details of it by geographical area, we'll just list what the tests found as an end result. When facts talk, marketing walks, so have a look at the charts below that say it all. Hit the source link, if you want a breakdown by region or city - the 21 test cities were Atlanta, Bo...

Leak reveals Samsung's first Android slider for Verizon
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungVerizon WirelessGoogleAndroid
PocketNow obtained a couple of leaked photographs of a Samsung device that is apparently the SCH-i405. For the Korean based manufacturer, it will be its first Android flavored device with a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard for Verizon, and has a resemblance to the Samsung Epic 4G that currently resides at Sprint.
The SCH-i405 model number puts the handset right after the Samsung Continuum which means that the specs, when released, probably won't blow your mind. The phone did receive Bluetooth and Wi-Fi certification but has yet to meet the august members of the FCC. That gives us about 6-8 weeks before a possible launch on Verizon. Of course, most of the carrier's customers have their heart and ...

Verizon's Pre 2 finally gets the webOS 2.1 update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesVerizon WirelessPalmPre 2
Wow, this took a while. Unlocked Palm Pre 2 devices got their webOS 2.1 update in early March. And it's taken a ridiculously long time for it to come to Verizon's CDMA Pre 2. But alas, maybe we should just be grateful that it came at all, considering the Palm/HP transition?
We're done ranting; it's time to rave. The webOS 2.1 update, which is being pushed out in a piecemeal fashion, brings a lot of fantastic features. One fun addition is Exhibition, which allows you to set specific display functions when your device is being charged. You can choose from a clock display, a slideshow of your photos, or your daily agenda.
Next is voice dialing, which is prompted by holding down the volume key, ...

Verizon's 'DataGate' plans leaked in excruciating detail
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon Wireless
With each and every passing day, the rumors surrounding Verizon's new "usage plans" are getting tougher to ignore. It's only been two days since we initially heard Big Red was ready to ride its unlimited data plans into the sunset in favor of switching to a newer, more usage-friendly model, and the leaks continue to flood in. This go-round, very official-looking docs that offer up a whole slew of details are in the open air. Many of the details echo what we've heard before: the data plans are the same price, starting at $30 for 2GB and working up to increments of 5GB for $50 and 10GB for $80; mobile hotspot access is an additional $20 and you'll get hooked up with an extra pair of gigs; fina...

Are these Verizon's New Tiered Data Plans?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon Wireless
Much like a great book, a roller coaster ride, or a Joss Whedon TV show, we knew that Verizon’s “unlimited” data plans were coming to an early end sooner or later. We just didn’t know when, or how much we (or, at least, those of us not on grandfathered plans) would have to cough up when the time came.
Now, things aren’t official just yet — but thanks to the ol’ rumor mill, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what to expect.

It looks like both the LTE version of the Motorola XOOM and the Motorola DROID 3 are about to be launched by Verizon. Big Red has added both devices to its MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) list. As Verizon noted in its memo, the MAP price relates only to prices shown on an advertisement. Actual selling prices can be lower.
