Nokia to close UK web store by end of month
Like UnlikeFiled in: NOKIA
Nokia’s affiliate team has confirmed that Nokia will close its UK online shop by the end of the month. In a letter to partners, the Finnish firm said, “This message is to inform you that Nokia is closing their affiliate [program]… in keeping with a strategic business decision to close down the Nokia UK online shop.” The company argued that it has been hard to compete with wireless carriers that are offering products at subsidized prices. “We are planning to close the current UK online store to simplify our channel structure and focus our resources on our key trade customers,” a Nokia spokesperson told Tech Radar.

Need more shortcuts on the homescreen of your Symbian^3 device such as the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 or E7? No problem thanks to the app called Favourite Apps. Available as a free download, it extends the default shortcut widget (which can handle 4 apps) by providing total of 15 spots for your favorite apps. Not sure anyone needs that many icons on the homescreen(s), but hey – there are different people with different needs and we shouldn’t judge anyone.

If you are itching to get your hands on the latest in Nokia's venerable E-series line of business smartphones, the E6, then it looks like your best bet is to head to Amazon. The e-tailer has listed the Symbian Anna packing handset for pre-order for $446. Of course, at that price you get an unlocked smartphone without any obligations or ties to a carrier. Still, unless you are a die-hard Symbian nut, there might be better places to spend your hard-earned money.

Nokia Windows Phones will launch in six European nations first, Finland not among them
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftNOKIAWindows Phone 7
Nokia VP Victor Saeijs has this week disclosed the six launch markets for the vanguard devices born out of the Microsoft-Nokia partnership. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and the UK will all count themselves as hosts to Nokia's Windows Phone debut, but the company's mother nation of Finland has strangely been left out in the cold. Knowing Nokia, there's no doubt that once the WP7 handsets are ready they'll find themselves swiftly available worldwide, but if you care to be among the very first to own one, you'll be wanting to visit Europe's western shores -- preferably some time before the year's through, as Mr. Saeijs also reaffirmed that there will indeed be a Nokia Windows...

U.K. judge rules against Nokia in patent infringement case
Like UnlikeFiled in: NOKIA
Even though it apparently is about to reveal an amazing new Windows Phone 7 handset as we reported today, for the time being at least, life has been mostly hard for Nokia. And to add insult to injury, a U.K. judge has ruled that two phones produced by the Finnish manufacturer had infringed upon a patent held by German firm IPCom. According to BusinessWeek, the patent dealt with the technology used to connect a handset to a network. The same case is being heard in courts in the U.S., Germany, Japan and Italy.
IPC acquired the patents in 2007 from Robert Bosch. The world's number one automotive supplier, Bosch could not work out a deal 4 years ago to license the technology to Nokia and sold t....
