Posted on Mar 26, 2012 by MG1

As we fully expected, the comments on our recent post about AT&T's apparent decision to not push out the lastest bugfix version of Windows Phone, 8107, have expressed a good deal of unhappiness. According to market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, Microsoft and Nokia’s gambit may be paying off: Windows Phone 7 has outsold Symbian handsets for the first time, and the Nokia Lumia 800 is proving popular across Europe too.
According to the research, 2.5% of UK consumers bought a Windows Phone handset compared to 2.4% for Symbian over a three month period that ended on February 19th. Hackers have their hands on code that Microsoft created the show off an attack. Apparently, Microsoft shared the proof of concept code with members of its Microsoft Active Protection Program. The proof of concept code was shared with various antivirus vendors to allow them to protect end-users from similar attacks.
Microsoft found out the proof of concept code was in hacker hands this past Friday when an Italian security researcher named Luigi Auriemma discovered the code on a Chinese website. "While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon," a Microsoft spokesperson said in an email making the rounds. "For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it’s the best year ever for Xbox 360."

Developers: Microsoft updates “Download for Windows Phone” buttons again

Posted on Mar 19, 2012 by MG1

We’ve already seen Microsoft changing the style of their “Download for Windows Phone” buttons last June, when it did away with the color options and instead provided a consistent grey-orange color scheme. Now, those buttons have been updated once again to replace the generic download buttons with the new Windows Phone logo introduced in Mango, resulting in a red-grey color scheme and more prominent branding that we personally find more appealing than the previous iteration.
In order to comply with the rather strict usage guidelines (understandable since they’re designed to promote consistency), we’ve linked the image to the WMPoweruser app. A brief reminder is in order now that you should us...
