Google Inks Contract for Scheduled Content on YouTube
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Remember when YouTube was little more than an online video portal filled with crappy videos shot in blurry SD? You could argue that much of the content still sucks, but at least the picture quality is much improved with so many HD uploads. Google has begun taking a proactive role in improving the actual content too, and as 2012 rolls around, you'll be able to watch scheduled broadcasts with professional actors, just like cable and satellite TV.
Google is keeping mum on its plans, but according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, it's all but a done deal as Google finalizes contracts for what will be the first of many channels. The goal is to have content ready by early 2012.
In order to ...

LG Optimus S Gingerbread update halted by Sprint after issues reported
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsLGGoogleOptimus SAndroid 2.3
Sprint recently started rolling out the Android 2.3 update for the LG Optimus S. While those with the phone were excited about the update, there have been many complaints from those with the LG Optimus S about problems that have popped up with the device since the new software was downloaded. As a result, Sprint has put a halt to the update and is looking to send out a fixed version of the OS to those whose phone is no longer working correctly.
Some of the problems that LG Optimus S owners have had after updating to Android 2.3 include a failure of the phone's battery to recharge, the inability to connect to data, a message that the microSD card is un-mounted or removed and when connected to...

Google+ believed to be closing in on 50 million users
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google+ has attracted over 43 million users since opening the doors to their new social network less than three months ago. Ancestory.com co-founder and self-proclaimed Google+ unofficial statistician Paul Allen (no relation to the Microsoft co-founder by the same name) estimates that the social network is slowly approaching 50 million users.
Google announced nine new Google+ features last week, bringing the total number of key features to 100. The most important of them was number 100: anyone can now sign up for the social network, which was previously invite-only.
According to Allen, new members flocked to the service over the 48 hour period before posting his latest estimates which result...

Google Developing Chrome Patch To Protect Against TLS/SSL-Ravaging BEAST
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Conventional thinking says that it would take a beast of a program to break through the encryption spit out by the SSL/TLS protocol – that’s why it’s found in so many websites and browsers these days. Unfortunately, a pair of researchers say they’ve whipped up just such a program in the form of BEAST, or “Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS,” and they plan on showing it off this Friday at the Ekoparty security conference. At least one company’s taking the threat seriously; Google plans on rolling out a Chrome update designed to confuse the BEAST and defend against its threat.

Google MVNO launches in Spain; Euro carrier push tipped
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google has quietly set up operations as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) in Spain, buying bulk network capacity from existing carriers and providing employees with a special Google SIM in order to use it. Intended initially to allow Google to perform Google Voice quality testing when paired with a Nexus S handset, members of Spanish forum ElOtroLado report, the SIMs variously use Movistar, Orange and Vodafone.
By negotiating with carriers directly to buy bulk data, voice and messaging provisions, MVNOs can secure better rates than individual or enterprise customers. Usually, that data, etc., is then sold on to consumers at a mark-up, thus allowing the MVNO to operate a mobile busine...

Google shoves Chrome 15, 16 into beta, dev channels
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google's rapid release schedule has continued this week as Chrome versions 15 and 16 hit the beta and dev channels a mere week after the first stable build of Chrome 14. Available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux, the Chrome 15 beta brings a redesigned New Tab page that should make it easier to manage your apps, bookmarks and most visited sites.
You can drag and drop apps to rearrange them, create new sections with custom names and delete apps by dragging them into a trash can on the bottom right of the page. You can easily navigate between the various sections (Most visted, Apps and Bookmarks by default) and Chrome will remember your selection the next time you open a new tab.

Oracle amends complaint against Google to $2 billion, risks the wrath of Judge Alsup
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Oracle's damage claim against Google in it's battle over Java patents keeps inching downwards, but not nearly quick enough to please either Big G or Judge William Alsup. The Redwood Shores-based company initially sought $6.1 billion, but eventually lowered that to $2.6 billion. The judge responded by suggesting a far more modest $100 million starting point for a settlement and sent Oracle back to the drawing board. Well, the company amended its complaint, and is now asking for only $2 billion. Judge Alsup has grown noticeably more impatient with both sides as the suit has progressed towards trial, which is still scheduled for October. We can't wait to see what sort of outburst Oracle's lates...

Twitter poets hint at Nexus Prime variant with QWERTY
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesGoogleGALAXY Nexus
A few days ago The Panda King, who apparently has inside ties to Verizon, was exchanging lines of poetry with Tom Fleming and the riddles pointed to a November 3rd launch date for the Samsung Galaxy Prime (aka Nexus Prime). Well, Tom Fleming has come out of the woodwork again with some more poetry that points to a variant of the Nexus Prime that may contain a physical QWERTY keyboard.
The poetry also says that LTE is a "sure bet", that the device will have an HD screen and a dual-core CPU as we expected. It mentions "fancy new widgets" and then in the last line refers to "the one with a keyboard". This seems to point to a variant of the Prime having a QWERTY keyboard, and based on history it...
