Adobe updates Flash and Air for Android, fixes 'green screen' video issues
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Even though Adobe is killing Flash for Android, the company promised to keep offering support and updates to its users. To that end, Adobe is rolling out updates for Flash 11 and Air for Android, as well as an update to the Air SDK. The biggest change would have to be the squashing of a bug that caused serious issues with Flash video playback — previously, users would often experience a completely green screen when trying to play video on sites like YouTube, pretty much defeating the value of having Flash installed in the first place. There's still a number of known issues unresolved, including frames not updating when seeking through a paused video and incoming call audio not being prioriti...

New update for Adobe Flash 11 and AIR irons out some of the ICS kinks, like the green video screen
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid 4.0
Adobe promised that it will continue to issue security and compatibility updates for its mobile Flash player in Android Market, despite that it ceased working on future versions, and has been delivering on that promise ever since. It issued an Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR apps that are compatible with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version about a month ago, but apparently some more work needed to be done, so there goes another one now. The latest Flash Player 11.3 version resolves some compatibility issues, and brings in improvements, i.e. your videos will be turning green no more. There are still some issues without resolution, though - they are the same like when the first ...

Google+ allegedly part of FTC antitrust probe
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google and its social networking site, Google+, are both allegedly under investigation by the FTC for antitrust violations. The Feds recently added Google+ to the previously started investigation when the Mountain View based firm began to add Google+ content to its search results. According to sources for Bloomberg, Google broke the law if it gave preference to content from its own social networking site.
Google also has come under fire for its new "Search, plus Your World" feature that offers users personalized search results using a person's Google+ profile. Results also include "related people and pages" of content from the search firm's social networking site. Google users started to com...

So you own the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and you are developing Ice Cream Sandwich envy because the Asus Transformer Prime has received the Android 4.0 update (OTA, by the way). Things are so bad, you won't even look at the frozen dessert section in the supermarket for fear of seeing a box of Ice Cream Sandwich treats. Well, we have some news for you and we think it is not too bad.
Asus Singapore had originally stated that the update for the Eee Pad Transformer would take place immediately after the Transformer Prime received its update, but had to retract that statement. Then, a follow-up from Asus Singapore suggested that the manufacturer had to wait for Google to approve the release and sa...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
I'm not the only one troubled by Google's new Search Plus Your World—Google's aggressive push to include social results in its search that seems to favor Google+ over other social media services. So is the FTC.
Bloomberg reports the FTC has expanded its antitrust probe to look at whether or not Google is giving preferential treatment to its own products, like Google+, in its newly revamped search.

Google raided our business database says Kenyan startup
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google faces fresh attention amid claims of antitrust-style behavior with its Google+ search integration today, after accusations that it has been fraudulently attempting to muscle out a Kenyan local services startup. Mocality Kenya, a business database company that uses paid crowdsourcing to flesh out its entries, discovered what appears to be evidence that Google’s Getting Kenyan Businesses Online has been carrying out “a human-powered, systematic, months-long, fraudulent … attempt to undermine our business, being perpetrated from call centres on 2 continents.”

Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend." Let us know if you have seen your ICS update.

HP TouchPad getting Ice Cream Sandwich soon, courtesy of CyanogenMod
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsHPGoogleTouchPadAndroid 4.0
The Android 2.3 Gingerbread port for the HP TouchPad, courtesy of CyanogenMod, breathed some new life into an otherwise dying tablet. It turned it into a fully working Android slate and blessed it with the multitude of apps available on the Android Market. However, team Cyanogen is not done with the HP TouchPad just yet.
What you will see in the video below is a demonstration of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich working on an HP TouchPad. And for an early build, it runs pretty good, we must say. Almost every single one of the tablet's features are in a working state at this time, with the camera functionality and video playback being the only major things that need to be made functional. Once t...

Microsoft and LG have signed a patent agreement that covers LG’s tablets, mobile phones, and other consumer devices running Android or Chrome OS. Terms of the deal between the two companies have not being disclosed. However, this isn’t the first time Microsoft has targeted an Android vendor, previously signing deals with Samsung, HTC, and Acer, among others. “Together with our 10 previous agreements with Android and Chrome OS device manufacturers, including HTC, Samsung and Acer, this agreement with LG means that more than 70 percent of all Android smartphones sold in the U.S. are now receiving coverage under Microsoft’s patent portfolio,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and...

CyanogenMod reaches 1 million unique downloads
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
As long as smartphone manufacturers keep slapping ugly skins on their Android handsets and then refusing to upgrade them to the latest version of the operating system, there's going to be a place in the world for custom Android ROMs. CyanogenMod is among the most popular, and this morning the developers involved announced that it has been downloaded by one million unique users. The rooting community is still a small sect of Android users, but it's a growing one, and with good reason — it's been reported to improve battery life and performance on nearly every phone it supports. It also removes carrier and manufacturer bloatware and skins, adds some unique and new features, and keeps Android u...
