April 2, 2012: a great day to officially wash your hands of an unprofitable business. On the heels of Philips stuffing its TV biz into a joint venture, Fujitsu announced it has bought out Toshiba's stake in Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications (just like we knew it would). Fujitsu already had a controlling 80.1 percent interest in the company, so this doesn't exactly mark a seismic change in management. Still, with that final 19.9 percent it's now a fully owned subsidiary of the Fujitsu Group, and has been rechristened Fujitsu Mobile Communications. Fujitsu Reveals Lifebook Premium Ultrabook at CeBIT

Japanese vendor Fujitsu has shown no urgency whatsoever in joining the ultrabook fray. In fact, it remained mum on its ultrabook plans until it published its product roadmap for 2012 last month. The roadmap lists two ultrabook models, both scheduled for May. We now have a few details about one of its upcoming ultrabooks.

Fujitsu hasn't been a major player in the mobile race on this side of the pond, but it looks like the company's working to change that -- better late than never, right? Last week we spent some time with its "world's thinnest smartphone," the F-07D, and now TechFokus claims to have gotten its hands on a Tegra 3-packing tablet from the Japanese manufacturer that's supposedly set to launch in May.

Fujitsu distributed a flyer at CES teasing a quad-core Tegra 3 Android phone with a 12-GPU graphics accellerator running Ice Cream Sandwich. Quad-core tablets are only just starting to show up, so having that kind of power in a phone should make for some decreased battery life because there's less room for a big power cell. We'll get a look at Fujitsu's high performance phone as well as its water resistant gadgets soon.

Fujitsu develops ultra-low voltage RAM

Fujitsu Semiconductor and SuVolta have demonstrated a new process and technology that promises to greatly reduce the power consumption of SRAM. The new technology could be used to create SRAM capable of operating at ultra-low-voltages of 0.4V, less than one-half of today's power consumption levels. The new lower voltage SRAM could soon be seeing its way into mobile devices, tethered servers, and networking equipment.

Fujitsu set to release a dust and waterproof Android tablet

Great news for all you techies who love the outdoors. Fujitsu is set to release a new rugged tablet dubbed Arrows Tab with Japanese telecom NTT DoCoMo. This tablet will not only ship with dust and waterproof hardware, but it will sport Android 3.1 according to TCMagazine.
Like most Android tabs, the new Fujitsu tablet will carry a 10.1-inch screen and feature a display resolution of WXGA (1280 by 800). The number one appeal that the Arrow Tab will have is its ruggedness, and at this time it’s not clear just how dust and water-proof the Arrows Tab will be. Below, are the specs to the Arrow Tab:

Fujitsu IS12T now officially released in Japan

It is now just after midnight in Tokyo, and that means the official release date of the first new Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handset has come. The Fujitsu IS12T has now officially hit the market (although I suspect most stores selling the handset are now quite closed).
The smartphone’s stand-out features includes being water-resistant (IPX5/8) and dust-resistant (IP5X) technology, a 13.2 megapixel camera with smooth HD video recording and 32 GB of storage in a slim 10.6 mm thick body.

Sony, Sharp and Fujitsu earnings all bring bad news, only Toshiba says something nice

Plenty of Japanese earnings news today and, as with Nintendo, most of it's pretty dire. Sony's hit from the earthquake and PSN outtage has inevitably contaminated this quarter, but it's suffered from slow Bravia TV, PC and camcorder sales too. Together, these factors contributed a hefty ¥15.5 billion ($200 million) loss in the three months to the end of June, compared to a ¥25.7 billion profit for the same quarter last year.
Meanwhile, Fujitsu also lost ¥20.4 billion, which it largely attributed to a 6.7 percent decline in Japanese sales following the disaster. However, sales in other countries also fell 5.3 percent, reflecting a stronger yen and general lack of consumer demand.
