Images appear of Honeycomb on HTC Flyer
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsHTCGoogleAndroid 3.0Flyer
It was only a couple of days ago that a RUU (ROM update utility) leaked online that contained an early build of Android Honeycomb to the HTC Flyer, but now the guys over at XDA have turned that RUU into a flashable ROM.
The screenshots show what Honeycomb looks on the HTC Flyer with the Sense user interface. It is very similar looking to the HTC Jetstream currently available on AT&T. At the moment, this ROM is not quite ready to get pushed out to Flyer owners everywhere. However, it is nice to see that it is possible in the future.
When this ROM becomes available will any of you HTC Flyer owners jump at the chance to put it on your tablet? Keep in mind that you would have to root it if you...

THX certification might soon come to smartphones and tablets
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTablets
When a piece of audio gear – a multimedia receiver, audio amplifier or a home theater speaker system, carries the THX seal of approval, you know that you have something special on your hands. You know that the audio experience you are about to get from it is going to be superior to what a run-of-the-mill boombox can deliver. But does THX certification has its place among the ranks of smartphones and tablets?
Well, apparently, it does. Rick Dean, senior vice president of THX, revealed in an one-on-one briefing with Pocket-lint that the company is to start paying more and more attention to smartphones and tablets from now on. That sure makes sense as people are increasingly getting accustomed ...

Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSonyTablet S
Sony’s recently announced Tablet S is now available for pre-ordering in the UK. Users can choose between three models – 16GB Wi-Fi, 32GB Wi-Fi and 16GB Wi-Fi + 3G. If you don’t need 3G connectivity on a tablet and really dig that folded magazine look and feel, you can secure the 16GB model for 399.99 GBP. The 32GB version could be yours for 100 pounds more, which is also the price of the 16GB Wi-Fi + 3G model.
When it comes to availability date, Dixons — which claims to have an exclusive two-week pre-order window — lists September 16 for 16GB Wi-Fi Tablet S and September 23 for the 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S. No date was given for the 3G-enabled model, though.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 pulled from IFA 2011 because of a new Apple injunction against it
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleGalaxy Tab 7.7
The mysterious yanking of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet from the show floor at the IFA 2011 expo has been confirmed by Samsung to be caused by a preliminary injunction Apple secured against the tablet on Friday, September 2.
Cupertino already scored one injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany, and, although Samsung labeled its first tablet sample with Super AMOLED display as "Not for sale in Germany" on the following day of the expo, this obviously hadn't been enough to secure its continuous presentation on the floor of IFA 2011.
James Chung, a Samsung spokesperson from the Korean headquarters, has confirmed for Bloomberg that Apple has been granted an injunction to ban...

Vodafone Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 goes on sale for £229
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 10.1
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now available on Vodafone, which should come as a great relief for all those involved.
The 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet will cost £229 if you agree to sign up to a 2-year, £27-a-month contract.
Vodafone has had a turbulent time getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to its customers, with the company first offering an exclusive model with a better camera before Samsung made the rash decision that the tab wasn’t good enough to compete with the iPad 2.
After that crisis, Vodafone was, for a time, still going to stock the model, instead calling it the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V to emphasis the difference.
That debacle over, and everything looked set for a smooth ride unt...

HTC Flyer Honeycomb update leaked, custom ROM on the way
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsHTCGoogleAndroid 3.0Flyer
HTC Flyer users, how would you like to see Honeycomb powering your 7 inch tablet? Thanks to a leaked Honeycomb ROM Update Utility (RUU), you can head over to the sourcelink and download what is called a "very early beta build" of Honeycomb for the HTC Flyer. Of course, by doing this you might not be able to root your tablet or put it through the wayback machine to load a more stable version of the OS.
If you want to wait for the custom ROM, well that is an option for you as well. If you go ahead and take the risk of downloading the Honeycomb RUU for your HTC Flyer, let us know how it goes by dropping us a comment in the box below!

HP TouchPad is featured in Staple's upcoming sales flyer; still priced at $499.99 though
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
Always on the prowl, especially when just about every place is selling the HP TouchPad for $99.99, one of readers noticed that the webOS powered tablet is going to be featured in Staple’s upcoming sales flyer for the week starting on September 4th.
However, after looking at the advertisement online through their site, it’s still showing a hefty price tag of $499.99 attached to it – as opposed to the discounted price that everyone else is offering. From the looks of it too, the tablet can only purchased in stores seeing that online ordering isn’t available with it. Nevertheless, things could very well change over the next couple of days before the “sale” is given a go on Sunday.
Although we c...

Lenovo IdeaPad A1 is a 7-inch Android tablet that will be available for $199
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsLenovoIdeaPad A1 Tablet 22287DU
Lenovo unveiled what we think is a mass-market tablet (if there is such a thing) at this year’s IFA in Berlin, Germany. The IdeaPad A1 comes with a 7-inch 1024×600 pixels touchscreen, single-core processor, 3-megapixel camera on the back, front-facing camera for video calls, Wi-Fi connectivity (no 3G), while Android 2.3 Gingerbread is running the show. In other words, we’re talking about a device that’s pretty much the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, specs wise.
The good news is the price – Lenovo’s baby will be available starting from $199 for the 8GB version. 16 and 32 GB models, which will be available in the U.S., will retail for $249 and $299, respectively. Hopefully European prices won...

Best Buy cuts up to $150 off BlackBerry PlayBook
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
Best Buy has kicked off a promotion for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet that slashes the price by as much as $150. The deal isn’t quite as dramatic as the HP TouchPad fire sale of course, but it’s still decent for those that have been considering the PlayBook, especially the 64GB model.
The sale offers a $50 discount on the 16GB and 32GB PlayBook models bringing the prices down to $449.99 and $549.99, respectively. The $150 discount goes towards the 64GB model, which oddly brings the price down in line with the 32GB model at $549.99. That’s a sign that they’re way overstocked on the 64GB model, because seriously who would pay the same amount for the smaller storage capacity?

Toshiba unveils new AT200: it makes the iPad and Galaxy Tab look obese
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsToshibaAT200-101
To no one’s surprise, Toshiba just unveiled its latest Android tablet offering, the Honeycomb 3.2, 10.1-inch AT200. When we describe this tab as ultra slim — we mean it. The new Toshiba tablet measures in at a remarkable 7.7 mm thick, the Toshiba AT200 comes in as one of the thinnest Honeycomb slates yet, making even the once slim Galaxy Tab 10.1 look like a fatty. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 CPU, 5MP and 2MP cameras, and up to 64GB of on-board storage. The new slate also sports a microUSB, microHDMI, and microSD support.

HP TouchPad getting a software update?
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
Hmm… this is… kinda… strange. Only a week after we said webOS is pretty much dead, HP hinted its TouchPad may get a software update. And it’s not the software release that would make the tablet run Android (CyanogenMod is used for that), but an actual webOS-based update.
We’ve no idea what will be included in any such software, nor whether it will actually be released. If that happens, the update will “enhance the platform and add functionality” to the TouchPad. HP’s spokesperson said those words in a reply to email from CNet.
In the meantime, if you own the TouchPad, you’ll be glad to know that Quickoffice HD for webOS has been updated and now supports document editing, while also adding ne...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 official: dual-core 1.4GHz CPU, Android 3.2, HSPA+
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGalaxy Tab 7.7
Here it is, official as official gets: Samsung just announced the Galaxy Tab 7.7. As the name suggests, it has a 7.7-inch (1280 x 800) display -- specifically, a Super AMOLED Plus panel. Like so many other 7-inchers hitting the market, it runs Android 3.2 and yes, that's a skinned flavor of Honeycomb, with Samsung's tablet-optimized TouchWiz UX layered on top. Inside, it runs the same Samsung-made dual-core 1.4GHz processor found in the new Galaxy Note, along with an HSPA+ radio promising theoretical download speeds as high as 21Mbps. Other specs for the 0.74-pound (335-gram) tablet include 16GB to 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 5,100mAh battery rated for 10 hours, 802.11n ...

Sony details Android-powered Tablet S and Tablet P
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSonyTablet STablet P
One day ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin, Sony revealed more details on its Tablet S and Tablet P devices, originally known as the S1 and the S2. Both tablets are equipped with NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor, front and rear facing cameras and an SD card slot. The devices currently run Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) but Sony promises that the tablets will run the newer Android 3.2 operating system by the time they hit the market. The Tablet P, originally known as the S2, sports two 5.5-inch TruBlack displays and will eventually be available on AT&T as an HSPA+ device. The Tablet S has a 9.4-inch TruBlack screen and offers an “ergonomic, asymmetric design” which Sony says makes it easier t...
