Rogers to soon launch an LTE enabled HTC Puccini?

A leaked document obtained by Mobile Syrup shows that Canadian carrier Rogers plans on bringing back the Puccini name on its variant of HTC's 10.1 inch Android tablet. The HTC Puccini was given the moniker HTC Jetstream for its launch on AT&T last week. Rogers has said that it would be launching an LTE tablet from an important manufacturer and this fits the bill. If the document is legitimate (and it appears to be, even with the misspelling of the Puccini name) the device will be known as the HTC Puccini LTE.

Apple has re-secured its injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany, with the Düsseldorf courts upholding its existing ban on sales. In what was reportedly a short sitting this morning, NetbookNews reports, the judge deemed that Samsung’s “smooth, simple surfaces” of the 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet copied the minimalist aesthetic of the iPad, a design that Apple secured back in 2004.

No, it's still not Honeycomb, but Vizio has just rolled out an update for its 8-inch Tablet that promises quite a few improvements, including better graphics performance, faster UI navigation, and better battery life. After being announced earlier this summer for Telus, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet has been launched in stores today, and is also being offered in competing Rogers stores across Canada. Telus is offering it for $649.99 with no strings attached, while Rogers is asking $679.99, but has an alternative to buy it for $349.99 on a three-year plan.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is about as close to an Android version of the iPad 2 as you can get. HP offering up refunds for Pre3 and TouchPads

HP has confirmed it will be offering refunds to all customers that bought TouchPads and Pre 3 phones before the huge price drop.
Over on its official site, it has listed the refunds available for every model of its ill-fated webOS devices, with customers offered the difference between that which they paid for the device and the new low shelf tag.
It's an odd move to see HP essentially giving away money – the Pre 3 was barely on sale in the UK and the TouchPad wasn't a huge seller, so the uprising against the price drop was never likely to be a massive problem to deal with, but the computing giant is clearly looking to draw a line under this with a gesture of goodwill.

Viewsonic has been at the low-cost Android tablet for some time now, and it showed no signs of letting up on that effort at IFA last week, where it debuted its new ViewPad 7e. If that managed to pique your interest, you'll be glad to know that the device is now available for pre-order for $199.99 (though there's still no promised ship date). That will buy you a 7-inch screen, a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, Android 2.3 for an OS, 4GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion, and even a mini HDMI port that will let you output full 1080p video.

Several reports appeared today about the first Windows 8 Tablet. The Korean Economics Times reports that Samsung has partnered with Microsoft to make the first Windows 8 Tablet. The new Windows Tablet will be already unveiled at the Build developer conference next week (September 13-16). ThisIsMyNext reports that developers attending the conference might get one for free. This still does not confirm that Microsoft is actually ready to launch the Windows 8 Tablet this year. Windows 8 OS is supposed to launch late 2012. The tablet has been sold out at retailers and on HP’s website after the $99 fire sale that followed HP’s announcement of discontinuing WebOS. Not sure whether we should put the “hot deal” sign near this… Motorola Xoom is now available for 329 GBP (about $540) from Dixons in the UK. If this deal was available 6 months ago, we would definitely go all crazy about it; alas today it’s a very different market and I’m not sure that many people actually want Moto’s Honeycomb tablet with so many other options available for pretty much the same amount of cash. Asus’ Eee Pad Transformer is definitely a better device thanks to its detachable QWERTY keyboard / external battery pack. But if you want just the tablet “part,” you may want to grab the Xoom anyways.
