T-Mobile this week revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will arrive on November 2, while Huawei's Springboard tablet will hit its network on November 9.
Pricing for both devices has not yet been revealed.
The Springboard is Huawei's first Honeycomb tablet for the U.S., and PCMag got some hands-on time with the device at this month's CTIA trade show in San Diego. The 7-inch tablet includes a 1280-by-800 display and 5-megapixel camera. It runs a "mostly unmolested" version of Android, according to PCMag mobile analyst Sascha Segan, as well as a 1.2-GHz dual-core processor. Netflix is pre-loaded.
The Galaxy Tab features a 10.1-inch HD touch-screen display with 1280-by-800 resolution. It ru...

Motorola RAZR says hi to FCC with AT&T radios on board; Motorola XOOM 2 also visits?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsMotorolaAT&TXOOM 2RAZR
The Motorola RAZR has made it past the FCC and inside it carried radios tuned to AT&T's frequencies. But before you AT&T customers start getting excited, the frequencies are also used by many Canadian carriers and it is expected that the Motorola RAZR will be heading across the border after it is launched by Verizon. The shared bands are GSM 850/1900 and WCDMA Bands II/V for 3G.
No one is ruling out an AT&T variant of the Motorola DROID RAZR as it would make sense for the Schaumberg based company to spread its flagship phone to as many carriers as possible. This is the MO that Samsung has used quite well with its Galaxy line of smartphones. Of course, AT&T has not uttered a word yet and nei...

The new hotness these days is in manufacturers confirming that their Honeycomb tablets will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment, and get it fast. Word has it that the Motorola XOOM will get the Android 4.0 update, and it looks like the Acer ICONIA TAB A100 and A500 will be getting the update in very early 2012.
Apparently, word leaked from Acer Poland that the ICONIA TAB A100/101 and A500/501 would not be getting the update this year, but users should expect the ICS treatment in mid-January 2012. This seems to match up with a lot of the other update announcements that we've heard from other companies, so although there has been no official announcement, there is also no reason to be...

Motorola XOOM to get ICS, but no definite timeline for update
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
It's one of the more annoying aspects of the Android ecosystem, but one we must live with. Even if a device is less than a year old, we don't feel comfortable that it will get the newest update unless the manufacturer explicitly says so. Recently, HTC has confirmed that it will bring ICS to "as many" devices as possible, but that isn't much solace. On the other hand, Motorola has confirmed the update will come to the Bionic and RAZR at the very least. Now, it's looking more likely the XOOM will get the update, but we can't say when.
A source from the Motorola support message boards, which Engadget claims is a very reliable source, has confirmed that the Motorola XOOM will be getting the ICS...

Coby's latest in budget slates hit the federal testing tables on Friday, getting the customary teardown and tell-all photo shoot. The Coby Kyros MID7012 comfortably fits a 800Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, WiFi and a microSD card slot into its case. The seven-inch Gingerbread tablet hasn't landed on Coby's US website yet, but nimble fingered Googlers can find the slab for about $100.

If you didn’t believe it before, you sure will now, as Samsung has officially announced their intent to have the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus made available in the USA starting November 13th for $399.99 USD. Anyone with a Smart Cover Can Break into Your iPad 2
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 2
In a pretty sizable and scary (and weird!) security bug, Apple's Smart Cover can be used to unlock any iPad 2, even if there's a passcode on it. Here's how it works. And here's how to fix it.
We've confirmed the security flaw with our own Smart Covers and iPad 2s running iOS 5 and it's just like the video above—the bug easily exposes your iPad 2 to unwanted eyes. And though you have to jump through a few hoops to get there, it works like this:
• Lock a passcode enabled iPad 2
• Hold down power button until it reaches the shutoff slider screen
• Close Smart Cover
• Open Smart Cover
• Click cancel

Foxconn gets orders for the next Kindle Fire
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAmazonFoxconnKindle Fire
It's looking more and more like if it's good enough for Apple, it's good enough for Amazon. Not only has Amazon taken a note from Apple in building up content stores for music, video and books, but also in bringing those stores together in the ultimate content consumption device: a tablet. Granted, Amazon is using the hardware as a loss leader to sell content, whereas Apple uses the content to sell hardware, but the parallels are still there. Amazon also took a cue from Apple in making said tablet into a closed ecosystem (albeit build upon an open source project,) with content reviews and controls, in order to create a very specific experience for the user. Now, Amazon is going another step ...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus goes on pre-order
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGalaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has shown up on Amazon for pre-order. Unfortunately, there is still no exact release date given for the tab, and the pricing puts it in a weird range.
The rumor has been that the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus would be coming to the US, and not the Tab 7.7, and the Tab 7.0 Plus is certainly aiming for a more budget-conscious consumer. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has been listed on Amazon at $399 for the 16 GB model, and $499 for the 32 GB model. That's about where we would expect the prices to hit, especially given that Samsung is looking to turn a profit on this hardware, unlike Amazon with its $199 Kindle Fire, which will be a loss-leader to get people into Amazon's vario...

HP TouchPad Gets a webOS Upgrade from Beyond the Grave
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
Well now isn't this something. HP's discontinued-and-firesaled TouchPad got an OTA webOS upgrade today.
WebOS 3.0.4 improves the camera app, messaging, connectivity to non-HP phones, and generally "touches up" the UI and overall performance. It also delivered a nice update to webOS's developer tools, which is encouraging for anyone hoping for a not-quite-dead-in-the-water TouchPad.
What does that mean for the TouchPad going forward and the fate of webOS as a whole? Well, not as much as you might think (or hope). Word was that HP was going to determine the fate of webOS some time this week. While we haven't heard anything just yet, Ari Jaaksi, the head of webOS and services at HP, posted abou...

Apple may be building 7.85-inch 'iPad mini'
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsApple
Apple may be working on a smaller “iPad mini” tablet with a 7.85-inch display, according to a new report from United Daily News in Taiwan. Reportedly, LG Display and AU Optronics will supply the parts for the device, which will have the same 1024 x 768-pixel resolution as the iPad 2. Apple may want to enter the lower-priced tablet market in an effort to steal market share away from Amazon’s Kindle Fire device, but at least one analyst has argued the device may not be smaller in size than the current iPad. Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White recently suggested that Apple might introduce an “iPad mini” priced in the “high to mid-$200 range” during the first few months of 2012, and the d...

iPad 3 production starts this quarter according to Susquehanna

Production of Apple’s third-generation iPad is about to get underway according to Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro. According to Fidacaro, Apple’s manufacturing partners have orders to build as many as 1 million iPad 3 tablets in the fourth quarter of this year, in line with an earlier note from the analyst’s colleague at Susquehanna, Christopher Caso. “Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start,” Caso wrote in a recent research note. “We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production.” Last week, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White said that Apple will unveil a new entry-level “iPad m...

Amazon may sell over 5 million Kindle Fire tablets in Q4
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAmazonKindle Fire
Amazon could ship 5 million or more Kindle Fire tablets in the fourth quarter of 2011, one analyst believes. Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar on Thursday stated that Amazon likely has a huge hit on its hands, with fourth-quarter shipments that may surpass even the most bullish estimates. ”Checks indicate that they could ship upwards of 5 million units in the December quarter, which is just shy of half of Apple’s volume,” Kumar told CNET in an interview. An earlier rumor from DigiTimes suggested that Amazon has placed orders in the neighborhood of 4 million units, and preliminary shipment estimates from Forrester suggested that Amazon might ship 5 million tablets this quarter.
