Nokia is all set to launch a tablet in 2012 and has its sights set on a June launch.

This is according to one of the company's execs based in France, who was speaking to newspaper Le Echoes about the tablet and revealed the launch date and that it would indeed be packing Windows 8.

The short but snappy statement from Paul Amsellem said: "In June 2012, we will have a tablet that runs on Windows 8."

Asus Transformer Prime gets its Smart Cover

Asus Transformer Prime gets its Smart Cover

Posted on Nov 21, 2011 by MG15

Think that the iPad 2 is the only tablet with a smart cover? Think again, with Amazon Germany listing such an accessory for the upcoming Asus Transformer Prime. So aside from the keyboard dock, this will be one of those must-have things to purchase alongside Asus’ Android tablet. The price is 39 EUR, which is roughly $53.

Yeah I know it’s not cheap, but you’ll be glad to know this magnetic folding cover is even smarter than what Apple is selling, supporting both portrait and landscape orientations at a variety of angles. Overall, the Asus Smart Cover seems inspired by an origami sculpture and is way more complex that Apple’s product. Not sure that’s a plus, but I certainly like more options...

Apple is slowing down iPad 2 production, gearing up for the iPad 3

Apple is purportedly slowing down iPad 2 production with 9.7-inch display shipment orders decreasing in the fourth quarter. Samsung, LG Display and Chimei Innolux have all received less orders from Cupertino in the last trimester, according to a DigiTimes report.
The slowdown could be due to Apple already having a surplus which it can rely on and could also be related to the upcoming production of the next-generation iPad. Samsung and sharp have reportedly already started shipping displays for what's expected to be the iPad 3 in October. Wintek and TPK Holding making touch panels for the next iPad, are expected to start shipping them in the November-December timeframe.

Amazon Kindle Fire hack allows installing Google apps, Nook Tablet can get the Amazon Appstore

Amazon Kindle Fire hack allows installing Google apps, Nook Tablet can get the Amazon Appstore

Posted on Nov 18, 2011 by MG1

The Amazon Kindle Fire shocked us with its $199 price tag – after all, that's more than twice cheaper than the iPad, but with the lower price you'd have to compromise. The Kindle Fire features a dual-core processor, but still can't match in the spec race, but what could be more troubling for some – it doesn't have core apps like the Android Market with its hundreds of thousands of apps, and Google's suite of applications including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Talk and Books among others.
But after all, the Kindle Fire does run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, albeit a heavily skinned version, so it should be able of running those applications. And it does – you'll just need to spend some time rooting th...

Nook Tablet limits internal storage for non-B&N purchased content to 1GB

Nook Tablet limits internal storage for non-B&N purchased content to 1GB

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

Well, this is definitely a bummer. Barnes & Noble has spent a fair amount of time talking up all of the Nook Tablet's internal advantages over the Kindle Fire, a list that includes 16GB of storage to the Fire's 8GB. That particular spec may not be quite as good as it looks on paper, however. It seems that Barnes & Noble is currently limiting internal storage on the Android slate to 1GB of content not downloaded directly from B&N. Bummer, right? Especially for those expecting to store their multimedia content on the device. It's not all bad, though. Keep in mind that, unlike the Fire, the Nook's got a not-so-secret weapon -- expandable memory via a microSD card slot located behind the tablet'...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 available again in Germany

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 available again in Germany

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

Back in August we reported that sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 were halted in Germany due to patent infringement claims from Apple. Apple claimed that the physical design of Samsung’s tablet was too close to the look of the iPad.
Samsung has redesigned the tablet and re-released it in Germany as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1N. Cyberport, a German electronics retailer, is already taking orders for the white 16GB model of the tablet on its website for €549.
The picture below shows the old model at the bottom and the new Galaxy Tab 10.1N on the top. It looks as though the major difference is the metal trim on the new device wraps around further in the front. At this point in time, it looks ...

Kindle Fire rooted and splayed, source code released

Kindle Fire rooted and splayed, source code released

Posted on Nov 16, 2011 by MG1

The Kindle Fire — it's just a BlackBerry PlayBook with a big Kindle logo imprinted on its back, right? To help you answer that burning question, iFixit has taken Amazon's brand new Android tablet into the lab and subjected it to the usual teardown treatment. The first major difference between the Fire and the PlayBook is in the port selection: Amazon offers just a 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroUSB port that doubles up as both a data connector and power intake. There's also a power button sitting next to them and that's all the intrigue you'll find on the outside. No volume controls like on the PlayBook or any other portable device.

HP TouchPad pops up on TigerDirect, refuses to roll over and play dead

Time and rapid inventory sell outs might've quenched the fury of late summer's TouchPad firesale. But if you were left outside of the webOS mourning soiree and are still keen to call that HP tab your own, TigerDirect's got a slew of the slates ready for the taking. You won't find that seductive sub-$100 price here, however, the web retailer is offering a rebate that'll cut the 32GB slate down to a very attractive $150. The future may still be uncertain for the mobile OS that was once was and could've been, but at least dual booting Android's a sure thing.

HTC to unveil quad-core tablet in February

HTC to unveil quad-core tablet in February

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: TabletsHTC

HTC has not found tremendous success thus far with its first two tablet offerings. Despite a carrier deal with Sprint, the Sense UI, a unique note-taking feature called Scribe and a bunch of scantily-clad women toting the tablet at a few events, our sources suggest HTC Flyer sales have not been stellar. The company’s second tablet offering, the Jetstream, was priced out of contention here in the U.S., running $700 with a two-year data contract from AT&T. According to a recent report, HTC’s lucky number three will be unveiled in February at the annual Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Spain. Details are limited for the time being, but DigiTimes cites a report from Chinese-language Comm...

Amazon Kindle Fire catches the eye of Android developers

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablet hasn't quite yet hit the hands of would-be buyers, but that hasn't stopped developers from saying that it is the most desired of all Android tablets to create apps for. Appcelerator and IDC polled almost 2,200 developers this month, and the Kindle Fire edged out the Samsung Galaxy Tab as the most attractive Android tablet to target their efforts at.

Huawei MediaPad, Vision get priced in sterling, will arrive in UK within months

Posted on Nov 11, 2011 by MG1

We're still awaiting further details on the MediaPad's stateside arrival, but Huawei has already spilled the beans for those on the other side of the Atlantic. At an event in London this week, the Chinese manufacturer confirmed that its seven-inch, Honeycomb-plated slate will arrive in the UK by early 2012, with prices for the WiFi only version starting at £275 (around $437). The company also took the opportunity to announce the arrival of its Vision smartphone, which will invade Britain sometime before Christmas. Huawei says it'll cost around £25 (about $40), once provider subsidies are accounted for, though specific operators won't be announced until early next year. Rest assured, we'll ke...

RIM to forge ahead with Flash on the BlackBerry PlayBook, even if it's dead

RIM to forge ahead with Flash on the BlackBerry PlayBook, even if it's dead

Posted on Nov 11, 2011 by MG1

Adobe may have killed off Flash for both TVs and mobile devices, but that isn't stopping RIM from continuing to support it on the PlayBook. In a statement provided to All Things D yesterday, the BlackBerry manufacturer confirmed that it's not giving up on the dream just yet, because it's one of the Flash Player source code licensees that Adobe will continue to support post mortem:
"As an Adobe source code licensee, we will continue to work on and release our own implementations. RIM remains committed to delivering an uncompromised Web browsing experience to our customers, including native support for Adobe Flash Player on our BlackBerry PlayBook tablet (similar to a desktop PC browser), as w...

Adobe may have dropped Flash for mobile browsers according to ZDNet. The publication claims to have received a leaked transcript from an internal company email to Adobe employees that it will no longer develop its Flash Player, and that it will switch its emphasis from Flash on mobile devices to its AIR platform. One of the key marketing pitches adopted by Android device vendors is that Android offers an advantage of Apple’s iOS as its browser supports Adobe’s mobile version of its Flash Player plug-in.
ZDNet’s sources offered the following excerpt, from the Adobe internal email:
“Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps...
