Acer shows off quad-core Icona Tab with 1080p display
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAcerIconia Tab A700-10k32u
It was something that we expected to see soon enough, and Acer is bringing the fire with a new Iconia Tab that will feature a 1080p display, not to mention the quad-core Tegra 3 processor. We had seen leaked pics of this Iconia A700 tablet just before the new year, but this is the first time we've seen it turned on, and it's looking pretty good.

Toshiba Excite X10 tablet gets release and price info
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsToshiba
The tag line for the Toshiba Excite X10 tablet has been that it will be the "thinnest and lightest" 10" tablet, but even before its official announcement it saw some competition on those claims from the Lenovo IdeaTab S2. The S2 has been announced as a 10" tablet at .3" thick and 1.1 pounds, while the Excite X10 is said to be .3" thick and 1.2 pounds. More exact millimeter measurements may show which is really the thinnest, but we're not sure how the weight war could change.

Lenovo IdeaTab S2: The first competitor to the ASUS Transformer Prime
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsLenovo
It may seem hard to believe, but one year ago at CES 2011 ASUS showed off the first generation of a new type of Android tablet that they dubbed the “Transformer”. By itself the Transformer wasn’t anything special, just another Android tablet running Honeycomb, but when it was paired with a keyboard dock it transformed (get it?) into a device that looked like an everyday laptop. The resulting combination, which gave you all the benefits of a tablet such as instant on and amazing battery life, plus the huge productivity gains that a full laptop keyboard offered, turned a lot of heads in the tech community. Last month the second generation, dubbed the “Transformer Prime”, launched and it furthe...

Qualcomm powered Windows 8 tablets with 4G LTE shown right before CES
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAT&T
If you’re in Las Vegas this week, chances are you’re there to attend the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. It’s the largest tech show in North America and it’s an event that separates the men from the boys in terms of who can best cover the insane amount of products being announced seemingly every 15 seconds. But did you know that right before CES, on January 8th and 9th, AT&T held their 2012 Developers Summit? That event didn’t get a lot of attention, despite being in Las Vegas, but one important tidbit that’s slipped out is that AT&T held a joint session with Qualcomm to discuss 4G LTE enabled Windows 8 tablets.

Acer Unveils the Thinnest Ultrabook, a 15" Ultrabook, a 1080p Tablet and AcerCloud
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksTabletsAcerIconia Tab A700-10k32uAspire S5-391-9880
It technically doesn't start for another day, but CES is in full swing in Las Vegas. As part of the fun, Acer is bringing us the thinnest Ultrabook yet: The Aspire S5. This 13.3" class laptop measures just 15 mm at its thickest point and weighs in at under 3 lbs. Specs get thin from there, the Intel Core processor, SSD and sealed battery are a given; what we don't know is the size of the battery nor the price or release date, though Q2 2012 is promised. What draws our eye more than the thinness lies beneath what's being called a "MagicFlip I/O" port panel. In an homage to the original MacBook Air, Acer is including a concealed panel for connectivity beneath the display hinge. Where the origi...

Acer to release Iconia Tab A200 on January 15th starting at $330
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAcerICONIA TAB A200-10g08u
Acer has officially announced the newest addition to the company’s Iconia Tab lineup, the A200. The 10.1-inch device runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb with an Ice Cream Sandwich update slated for mid-February. The A200 features NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor with a 1280 x 800-pixel display and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Additionally, the device features a microSD slot, 1GB RAM, a full sized USB 2.0 port and eight hours of battery life. Perhaps the most attractive feature is the price tag — the 8GB model will be available for $329 and the 16GB model for $349. An attractive price for a tablet that will have Ice Cream Sandwich next month is definitely appealing, so be sure to checkout our Consumer...

Toshiba readying the world’s thinnest 10.1-inch tablet for CES
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsToshiba
Toshiba is taking a bit of a risk here with the bold statement that they are getting ready to unveil the thinnest and the lightest 10.1-inch tablet at CES next week especially since their latest effort, the Android-powered Thrive wasn’t exactly on the thin or light side.
As far as specs go there isn’t anything to go along with this statement. Just the other day a benchmark showed a quad-core Toshiba tablet which could very well be the one that they are touting as the thinnest and lightest. The benchmark results were similar to what has been seen with the Asus Transformer Prime, which is the first quad-core tablet to hit the market.

Google Nexus tablet rumors begin; 7-inch slate priced at $199?
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsGoogle
Just a couple of weeks ago, Eric Schmidt hinted that a Google tablet, presumably one bearing the Nexus brand, is already in the works. Additionally, he clarified that the device could debut in no more than six months' time, which points at a possible announcement at the upcoming Google I/O conference.
Unfortunately, no further details about the tablet were revealed, which is why the rumor mill is already working at full speed. A recent report from DigiTimes suggests that the Google Nexus tablet will be a 7-inch device priced at about $199, thus becoming a competitor to the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 gets its own Android ICS port thanks to compiled CyanogenMod 9 code

If you love the movie Braveheart, and are in possession of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 slate, you might give the newest way to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich on it a try.
The code of the custom ROM is compiled from various pieces of the CyanogenMod 9 project, which is en route to grace numerous devices with ICS before they are officially hit with Google's newest mobile OS version. Therefore some of your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features won't work for now, like the rear

eFun Nextbook Elite 10 offers Android 4.0, dual-core 1.1GHz CPU
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsE-FUN
It wasn't too long ago that we saw eFun's Nextbook Premium 9 Gingerbread tablet make its debut, but that isn't keeping the company from cranking out the hits. For CES 2012, eFun is showing off the Ice Cream Sandwich-running Nextbook Elite 10. It offers a 9.7-inch display with 1024 x 768 resolution and is powered by a Broadcom dual-core 1.1GHz CPU. We're still sketchy on a lot of the nitty gritty details, but we know it offers a 2MP front-facing cam and utilizes the SlideME app market. No availability date was given, but eFun is aiming to sell the tablet for somewhere between $250 and $280. If it sounds vaguely interesting at all, make sure to keep a close eye on our CES 2012 coverage for mor...

Asus on Transformer Prime's Locked Bootloader, Battery & GPS Issues
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsASUSEee Pad Transformer Prime TF201
After some availability issues faced by the Transformer Prime in North America, the tablet has now received a series of new complaints regarding battery life, GPS problems and the locked bootloader which were recently addressed in a statement made by Asus officials, softpedia reports:
The first complaints about battery life made their appearance a short while ago, when reviewers have found out that in some tests the Transformer Prime lags behind the original Transformer tablet in this regard.
Soon after this discovery was made, it was also uncovered that the built-in GPS had a series of difficulties when it came to finding and maintaining the connection with navigation satellites.

Asus Transformer Prime teardown reveals cause of GPS issue
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsASUSEee Pad Transformer Prime TF201
Asus's GPS troubles with the Transformer Prime don't seem to have been easily resolved by the recent firmware update, and Anandtech claims to have the answer. A teardown of the Prime didn't reveal much untoward, but does show that the spotty GPS reception is down to the tablet's fundamental hardware design. Unlike the original, plastic Transformer, the Prime has a fully aluminum body which doesn't play too nicely with wireless signals, and unlike the iPad there's no RF window or speaker grill to mitigate it (it's worth noting, though, that the Wi-Fi-only iPad with which the Prime directly competes doesn't have a GPS unit at all). For its part, Asus has admitted that the tablet's design does ...

Man enters the US using iPad as passport
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleiPad 2
A Canadian man successfully gained entry into the United States using a scanned image of his passport on his iPad.
Matt Reisch, from Montreal, realised he'd forgotten his ID as he approached the US border while driving to deliver Christmas presents to Vermont.
However, the quick-thinking Canuck realised he had scanned the important pages and sent the image to his iPad in-case he lost the passport while travelling.
