Fujitsu M532 tablet rears head in video, promises Ice Cream Sandwich and Tegra 3?

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Fujitsu hasn't been a major player in the mobile race on this side of the pond, but it looks like the company's working to change that -- better late than never, right? Last week we spent some time with its "world's thinnest smartphone," the F-07D, and now TechFokus claims to have gotten its hands on a Tegra 3-packing tablet from the Japanese manufacturer that's supposedly set to launch in May.

Notion Ink releases ICS Alpha update for Adam tablet, teases new device

Notion Ink releases ICS Alpha update for Adam tablet, teases new device

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

We had mixed feelings about Notion Ink's Adam slate when it debuted last year, but if you're one of the converts who took one home, then it looks like your faith is being rewarded with an ICS update. Okay, it's only an alpha build, so not everything is working just yet -- that'd be the camera, 3G, USB storage and flash drive, oh and the light sensor. If these *cough* minor niggles don't phase you, the "upgrade" -- shown in the video after the break -- is yours for the taking. This isn't all that Notion Ink's been up to though, as it's also quietly teased a new device on its blog which it claims has been built almost entirely in-house this time round. Details are beyond sparse at this time, b...

Some Transformer Prime users can't upgrade to Android 4.0

Some Transformer Prime users can't upgrade to Android 4.0

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Late last month, after several delays, ASUS began shipping its much anticipated Transformer Prime tablet, but with Android 3.2 instead of Android 4.0. The company promised that it would begin offering an over-the-air (OTA) update to early adopters on January 12. ASUS met that deadline, but xda developers reports that owners are experiencing problems with updating their slates. The problem arises when the OTA can't recognize the slate's serial number and won't update the device. ASUS is aware of the problem. Gary Key, a company representative, has suggested that users try doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work, he suggests waiting about 15 minutes and trying again. Key has acknowledged t...

Coby unveils its family of Ice Cream Sandwich slates

Coby unveils its family of Ice Cream Sandwich slates

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

It's hard to tell whether CES 2012 beat out last years show for tablet numbers, but there were plenty of slabs less likely to throttle your wallet in 2012. Coby has leapt onto that very bandwagon, with a whole slew of tablets. Several, but not all, made their first appearance at this year's CES and we were itching to see how they would stack up against some very price-savvy devices. We were informed (several times) that these were still prototypes, but user experience differed substantially between models. Budget tablet fans can check out our impressions and a brief video summary of the Coby clan right after the break.

Intel-powered Windows 8 tablets to struggle for sub-$600 pricing?

Intel-powered Windows 8 tablets to struggle for sub-$600 pricing?

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Microsoft has a big battle ahead to overcome the overwhelming popularity of the iPad on the tablet computing front, and its Intel-powered slates might be starting at a distinct disadvantage if a DigiTimes report is to be believed. The site indicates that neither Intel nor Microsoft are willing to cut their prices to help manufacturers, the former providing the Clover Trail hardware and the latter the Windows 8 software, which could see these machines starting at $599 and going way up from there. This could send manufacturers looking for lesser-expensive ARM-powered hardware, creating tablets incapable of executing the current gamut of x86 Windows software. Will users pay a premium for app co...

A BlackBerry roadmap was obtained by N4BB and shows some very important dates for 'Berry fans. Let's cut to the chase. Speculation is circulating that RIM has only one BlackBerry 10 model that it is working on, and whatever that model is will be launched in September according to the roadmap. Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab get security nod, certified for government agencies

Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab get security nod, certified for government agencies

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

We didn't have much to complain about when it came to Samsung's flagship phone and tablet, so we're glad to see that both the Galaxy S II and Tab 10.1 have managed to jump through the requisite hoops for FIPS certification. The business-centric feature means that both Samsung devices have been given the thumbs up for use in governmental agencies and other similarly stickler-for-the-rule industries. While the Tab 10.1 certainly isn't the first tablet to receive the certification, it's perhaps the most pervasive.

So you own the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and you are developing Ice Cream Sandwich envy because the Asus Transformer Prime has received the Android 4.0 update (OTA, by the way). Things are so bad, you won't even look at the frozen dessert section in the supermarket for fear of seeing a box of Ice Cream Sandwich treats. Well, we have some news for you and we think it is not too bad.
Asus Singapore had originally stated that the update for the Eee Pad Transformer would take place immediately after the Transformer Prime received its update, but had to retract that statement. Then, a follow-up from Asus Singapore suggested that the manufacturer had to wait for Google to approve the release and sa...

Posted on Jan 14, 2012 by MG1

Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend." Let us know if you have seen your ICS update.

HP has released new OS updates for its TouchPad tablet and Pre 2 and Pre 3 smartphones. The TouchPad gets webOS v.3.0.5, which offers faster switching in Calendar views, IM indicators, and quicker scrolling in Email. HP TouchPad getting Ice Cream Sandwich soon, courtesy of CyanogenMod

Posted on Jan 14, 2012 by MG1

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread port for the HP TouchPad, courtesy of CyanogenMod, breathed some new life into an otherwise dying tablet. It turned it into a fully working Android slate and blessed it with the multitude of apps available on the Android Market. However, team Cyanogen is not done with the HP TouchPad just yet.
What you will see in the video below is a demonstration of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich working on an HP TouchPad. And for an early build, it runs pretty good, we must say. Almost every single one of the tablet's features are in a working state at this time, with the camera functionality and video playback being the only major things that need to be made functional. Once t...

It was just recently when told you that OnLive is shifting its efforts from cloud gaming to cloud computing. However, the results from the company's work are already here. Introducing OnLive Desktop for the iPad – a cloud-based PC desktop environment that brings Windows 7 functionality to your iPad.
In a nutshell, it works just like OnLive's cloud gaming solutions. All of the processing happens on its servers while the user is given audio and video feedback, as well as control over the input, of course. Technically, it should feel like using a Windows 7 PC with productivity applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and will even let you store 2 gigs of data in your personal cloud.

While the back of the various devices would be white, the front bezel around the screen typically remained black — that is, until now. It would appear that Samsung has been working on a white bezel to integrate into the company’s future milky-colored devices; a white Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus have emerged in Vietnam and feature truly all white design. The specs of the Tab 10.1 and Tab 7.0 Plus remain unchanged, reports claim. No pricing or availability details have been announced.
