Sony Still Plans to Develop OLED HDTVs
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSony
It was announced last week that Sony would be discontinuing development of OLED HDTVs and monitors. Apparently those statements are false as Sony announced that they are still working on OLED-TVs alongside of their new Crystal LED TV that was also announced at CES. The Crystal LED technology uses thousands of tiny LED lights to replace pixels from an LCD screen. By controlling the LED lights, the TV is able to give a better color quality and impressive black levels. The OLED TVs have indeed been discontinued, but it was announced that Sony plans to continue research, development, and produce OLED TV panels. Hopefully Sony will see how the market behaves with the many other companies that are...

Sharp Will Not Produce an OLED HDTV
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSHARP
Many companies are finally starting to support the OLED technology for HDTVs. However not all are confident that the OLED technology will be the next big thing. Today, Sharp announced that they have no interest in the technology and won’t be joining the others in developing an OLED HDTV. Sharp’s President Mikio Katayama stated that OLED “won’t create a new market, it will just be replacement of what’s already out there.” The company firmly believes that the downfall will be the OLED’s high retail prices and that consumers will stick to conventional televisions that cost much less.

Bang & Olufsen's TVs aren't exactly for everyone, but those willing to spare no expense to turn a few heads now have yet another impressive model to consider form the company. It's just announced its new BeoVision 12-65, a plasma TV that makes use of a so-called NeoPDP panel and some clever design touches that make the 65-inch set appear as thin as possible. It's also naturally full HD and 3D compatible, and it packs an integrated center channel speaker that can be paired with a surround sound setup. Alongside it, B&O has also debuted its new BeoLab 12 loudspeakers, which pack a total of 480W and once again place a heavy emphasis on style. No word on pricing for either just yet, but the TV w...

Sony Unveils Crystal LED Display at CES
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSony
Sony is announcing today at CES a brand new prototype that will revolutionize the LED HDTV industry. The TV uses the same LED technology that’s used in the giant LED screens that are found in stadiums and billboards. The device replaces pixels for LEDs in order to create what Sony is calling the Crystal LED Display. The screen measures 55 inches, diagonally and includes over 6 million miniature LED lights. This technology replaces the old design where several LED lamps were used as a backlight to an LCD panel. The Crystal LED Display is designed create better contrast, color, and a wider viewing angle. Audyssey makes equalization easier with Tuning System, sneaks inside of Toshiba TVs
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVs
Audyssey, a company usually preoccupied with something related to audio, is announcing two snippets of news here at the 2012 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show. First off, the outfit's unveiling its Audyssey Tuning System (ATS), which is said to "dramatically reduce the time and cost associated with the EQ process." So far as we can tell, it'll enable makers of TVs, laptops, automobiles and just about everything else to use this stuff to fine-tune sound to the specifications they need, and we're told to expect ATS-designed products to hit the market in the middle of the year. Moving right along, there's the introduction of Audyssey's Premium Television technology in Toshiba's 2012 tele...

Move over, Microsoft Kinect. Panasonic said Tuesday that it will begin building in speech recognition into future televisions and other consumer electronics devices.
In addition, the CE giant also said that it would begin putting the Flixster application on Panasonic's Viera Connect devices including HDTVs and Blu-ray players, allowing users to tap into their UltraViolet content.
Panasonic said that it had licensed a large-vocabulary speech library from Novauris, which co-developed the NovaLite speech recognition software product for use with Panasonic, and to license to other TV and CE makers who wish to build in speech recognition. NovaLite will be available this quarter, Novauris said.

Qualcomm's Quad-Core TV Processors Could Deliver Console Quality Gaming—Without the Console
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVs
Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors have been a hallmark of mobile devices for the past few years. Not content with keeping the party in your pockets, the Snapdragon is coming to your TV, to the tune of 1.5GHz quad-core processor mightiness.
In addition to those four-cores, the Snapdragon S4 MPQ8064 also has Adreno 320 graphics. So, basically we're talking about console-quality gaming, potentially, without the console. The S4 supports 1080p 3D and Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound. The architecture is built to work with Android, which means we're likely to see these integrated with Google TV. We've seen a rash of Google TV products lately from LG, Sony, and most recently Vizio, and Android games have b...

The Lenovo K91 is a holy matrimony between Android and a TV set
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsLenovoK91
While some are working on delivering live TV to Android devices, Lenovo has done the exact opposite, namely bringing the Android platform to a TV set. And what a TV set the Lenovo K91 is – a 55 incher boasting a full HD IPS-LCD panel with LED backlight and 240Hz refresh rate. Delivering the processing power is a dual-core Qualcomm APQ8060 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, which is actually the very same chip that runs on some Samsung Galaxy S II versions. You also get 8 gigs of on-board storage that can be expanded via an SD card, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a 5-megapixel camera. What comes pre-installed is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Lenovo's very own Sandwich UI that combines traditional TV f...

X-Reality Pro by Sony
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSony
This has been consistent with recent technology – resolution from our smaller devices or even YouTube doesn’t render clearly when streamed over our larger televisions. Sony’s new televisions will incorporate their X-Reality Pro software into every one of their future Bravia televisions. It properly pixelates what your video or image should look like in real time.
It essentially restores the proper resolution for a low quality video to help make it look great on a TV with such a high pixel density. You may not gather it from the press shot above, but the television shown is making use of the X-Reality technology from a tiny YouTube video with low resolution.

Watch all Your 2D Shows in 3D. Could be Awesome. Or Nauseating.
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVs
Bummed out because you don't have enough 3D movies and you're sick of watching Avatard? Maybe you need a new TV. Like Philips's new 3D HDTV, which will take your 2D movies and TV shows and make them 3D. It's coming right at us!
According to Philips, you can not only make a 2D show or movie 3D, but you can even "adjust the experience." Not 100-percent sure what that means, but I'm hoping that means that I'll be able to push explosions about three feet from the screen. As expected, the TV is super thin—the screen is only 9mm thick and features a silver bezel instead the usual black bezel. Look for this 55-incher at the end of the year for around $1,700.
