Sharp is proud to announce that they have been selected to receive a 2012 Excellence in Energy Efficient Product Design Award from the U.S. Environment Protection Agency Energy Star Program. The award was given to Sharp for their efforts to promote energy efficiency with consumer electronics like HDTVs. One of the products that was highlighted was the LC-80LE632U, which was being called the most energy-efficient flat-panel TV available today. The 80 inch TV is capable of displaying full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and a 6000000:1 contrast ratio. “This is a great honor for Sharp. Sharp LC-80LE844U HDTV Revealed
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSHARPAQUOS LC-80LE844U
Sharp has many new HDTVs lined up to release this year. The top of the line will be the LC-80LE844U HDTV, which measures 80 inches, diagonally. The TV was recently unveiled by the company and features full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and 3D technology. The TV joins the long line of Aquos HDTVs and features the relatively new Quattron technology that adds a yellow LED into the typical RGB grouping. The added color increases picture accuracy and creates bright and vibrant images. The TV will also include internet capabilities as well as the latest in 3D technology and 4 HDMI inputs. The LC-80LE844U is not expected to release until April and will retail for just under $6500.

Sharp LC-42SV49U HDTV Released
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSHARPLC-42SV49U
Sharp is proud to announce the release of the first of their HDTVs for 2012, the LC-42SV49U. This 42 inch screen comes with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and LCD display technology. It isn’t loaded with features like many other TVs but that helps keep the retail price down to a minimum. The TV is currently priced at just under $330. This makes the TV retail for far less than the benchmark $10 per diagonal inch. The connection panel includes a USB, four HDMI ports, a composite, component, s-video and several audio ports as well. The low retail price might have to do with the recent claims of Sharp’s poor profits last year.

Sharp Will Not Produce an OLED HDTV
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsSHARP
Many companies are finally starting to support the OLED technology for HDTVs. However not all are confident that the OLED technology will be the next big thing. Today, Sharp announced that they have no interest in the technology and won’t be joining the others in developing an OLED HDTV. Sharp’s President Mikio Katayama stated that OLED “won’t create a new market, it will just be replacement of what’s already out there.” The company firmly believes that the downfall will be the OLED’s high retail prices and that consumers will stick to conventional televisions that cost much less.

LG, Sharp and Philips to build developer's kit, create Smart TV app standard
Like UnlikeFiled in: TVsLGPhilipsSHARP
A triumvirate of television titans -- LG, Sharp and Philips -- are joining forces to create a development kit, defining a common standard for their Smart TV apps. The power play addresses the problem of fragmentation, since developers will only need to make one version of an app for it to work across all three of the 'tubes operating systems. Based on open standards like HTML5, CE-HTML and HbbTV, developers should get their hands on a beta version by early October, with the finalized version due by the end of the year. The better question now is whether the Romanesque trio can drum up enough developer support to beat out competitors in an app-tastic coup d'etat, or if the likes of Vizio, Son...
