Many companies are finally starting to support the OLED technology for HDTVs. However not all are confident that the OLED technology will be the next big thing. Today, Sharp announced that they have no interest in the technology and won’t be joining the others in developing an OLED HDTV. Sharp’s President Mikio Katayama stated that OLED “won’t create a new market, it will just be replacement of what’s already out there.” The company firmly believes that the downfall will be the OLED’s high retail prices and that consumers will stick to conventional televisions that cost much less.
