HTC Flyer to get treated to ICS in Q1 2012?

HTC’s 7-inch stylus-supporting Flyer has seen its price slashed to the very affordable $299, then it was just recently updated to 3.2 Honeycomb, and now it’s confirmed to get further up in the Android hierarchy to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) in Q1 2012.
The update wasn’t officially confirmed, though - it slipped in a customer service rep mention in France, so we’d take it with a grain of salt.

TELUS' HTC Desire HD gets Android 2.3.5 update

Canada’s TELUS is rolling out an OTA update for the HTC Desire HD, bringing the smartphone up to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Aside from the “standard” features Gingerbread brings to the table such as improved copy/paste, UI refinements, improved power management and video calls support, there are some Desire HD specific stuff included, most notably the new version (3.0) of the HTC Sense UI. Moreover, there’s the HTC Watch app from where you can rent or buy the latest movies and shows, as well as a number of bug fixes under the hood that improve the stability of the device.

Hack breaks Hulu Plus free from supported device chains, embraces Androids of every shape and color

It's not TV, it's Hulu Plus and it's coming to the Android device of your choosing -- somewhat, unofficially. While the main ad-supported, streaming video site may have failed to seek refuge in the arms of a new owner last year, its subscription mobile offshoot is now finding a home in all Googlefied phones and tablets via a modified .apk created by XDA Developers member Vgeezy. But before you get all hot and bothered, keep in mind this jailbroken app still requires a subscription to work, although you won't need root to install it. Android 4.0 for Tablets shouldn’t be judged until it’s released

Last week it was announced that the Transformer Prime would be the first certified tablet to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then today the XOOM ICS update began rolling out, but there’s one judgement article out there produced by a high-ranking set of names which has passed judgement on it for those who would take their for granted that they know all about it from their 2 minutes of playtime. What they say, as it were, is that they know a guy with a Motorola tablet who has Ice Cream Sandwich on it and told them that it wasn’t very good. They then say they were at CES and spoke with a less than knowledgeable presenter who didn’t know ICS from Honeycomb.

Nokia CEO: Android is too fragmented

Stephen Elop has told Pocket-lint that he thinks Google's Android operating system is too fragmented, a pitfall he wants to avoid with Windows Phone 7 and Nokia in the future.
Talking to Pocket-lint at CES in Las Vegas, the Nokia CEO said:
"We don't want fragmentation being introduced into Windows Phone because we are beginning to see how in a certain other eco-system that fragmentation becomes a problem."

Adobe updates Flash and Air for Android, fixes 'green screen' video issues

Even though Adobe is killing Flash for Android, the company promised to keep offering support and updates to its users. To that end, Adobe is rolling out updates for Flash 11 and Air for Android, as well as an update to the Air SDK. The biggest change would have to be the squashing of a bug that caused serious issues with Flash video playback — previously, users would often experience a completely green screen when trying to play video on sites like YouTube, pretty much defeating the value of having Flash installed in the first place. Adobe promised that it will continue to issue security and compatibility updates for its mobile Flash player in Android Market, despite that it ceased working on future versions, and has been delivering on that promise ever since. It issued an Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR apps that are compatible with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version about a month ago, but apparently some more work needed to be done, so there goes another one now. Survey says: 39% of U.S. smartphone buyers will pick an Android model

Nearly 4 out of 10 people in the U.S. planning on purchasing a smartphone in the next 6 months will be walking out with an Android model. That is the result of a survey of 15,000 people in the States surveyed by the Yankee Group. To be precise, 39% of those asked responded with Google's open source OS as the platform they will choose. Next came the Apple iPhone, which was the answer chosen by 25% of those asked. The third most popular smartphone choice was RIM which will be the device of choice for those purchasing a smartphone in the U.S. within the next half year. 9% said they will buy a Windows Phone model, while less than 2% selected Symbian or webOS.

Motorola XOOM tablets reportedly getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. LG’s Chromebook plans have apparently been outed, with Microsoft revealing the company is working on – or at least considering – using Google’s Chrome OS platform to create a cloud-loving notebook. The fast-booting OS was mentioned alongside Android in Microsoft’s triumphant patent announcement earlier, in which the software company said the new agreement covers “LG’s tablets, mobile phones and other consumer devices running the Android or Chrome OS Platform.”
