Apple App Store Hits 100,000 iPad Apps Milestone

Apple App Store Hits 100,000 iPad Apps Milestone

Posted on Jul 01, 2011 by MG1

Apple still dominates the tablet landscape with an ecosystem of apps that has yet to be beat. The App Store has reached a new milestone today, now listing over 100,000 apps designed for the iPad. That’s a huge difference from what competitors, such as Google’s Android tablets, have to offer.
The very first Apple iPad was introduced in April of 2010 with the iPad 2 released in March of this year. Apple did have quite a head start with the first competition-worthy Android tablets having only been released in the beginning of this year, such as the Motorola XOOM. However, the growth is still quite impressive, reaching six figures over the last 16 months in iPad apps alone, not counting iPhone a...

Refreshed MacBook Air line could land July 19th with Sandy Bridge, OS X Lion, Thunderbolt

Posted on Jun 30, 2011 by MG1

Apple will refresh its MacBook Air line of computers on July 19th, iClarified reported on Wednesday. We began to suspect the update was imminent when early reports suggested that global supplies for the computer were in short supply in late May. Those reports were solidified earlier this week when stock of the MacBook Air at Best Buy and Amazon was depleted. The device is expected to pack the new Thunderbolt I/O port in place of DisplayPort, Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors, and the brand new OS X Lion operating system. 9to5 Mac said that Apple will likely offer Intel’s 1.8GHz Intel Core i7, 1.7GHz Core i7, and the 1.7GHz Core i5 in its new machines. We love the current design of the MacB...

Acer lowering notebook shipments too as iPad bites deeper

Acer lowering notebook shipments too as iPad bites deeper

Posted on Jun 28, 2011 by MG1

Acer's significantly lowered estimates include full-size notebooks as well, part suppliers divulged Monday night. The PC builder is now planning to drop its total notebook shipments from 6.4 million to 5.4 million. About 80 percent of the drop slipped out to Digitimes is the original netbook plan, but 20 percent will come from regular portables.

Shipments should hit nearly 1.5 million in July and climb to as many as two million notebooks in August with a similar amount in September. The move should be enough to purge Acer's excess stock.
The shortfall is partly attributable to the "abnormalities" the company reported earlier, where unsold stock in Europe is being cleared out at a discount. ...

Skype coming to iPad soon

Skype coming to iPad soon

Posted on Jun 27, 2011 by MG1

The second we knew that there would be a front-facing camera on the iPad 2, we all knew that Skype would get there eventually. Skype for the iPad isn't out just yet, and it doesn't have a set release date, but it looks as though it will be coming out very soon.
First, there was a video leaked previewing Skype for the iPad (below), then a Skype executive confirmed the imminent release when questioned by The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW). Rick Osterioh, Skype Vice President of Consumer and Product Design, told TUAW that Skype for the iPad is awaiting approval to the app store right now.
Skype for the iPad will be largely what we would expect, though there will be a few features that aren't ...

26-year old pleads guilty to hacking AT&T iPad data

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

Last year hackers made headlines when AT&T announced to a security breach that had allowed hackers to access the personal data from 114,000 iPad 3G users. On Thursday, 26-year old Daniel Spitler from San Francisco pleaded guilty to two crimes: conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers and identity theft. Spitler faces up to 10 years in prison — five years for each count, according to The Wall Street Journal. “Computer hackers are exacting an increasing toll on our society, damaging individuals and organizations to gain notoriety for themselves,” said U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman in New Jersey. “Daniel Spitler’s guilty plea is a timely reminder of the consequences of treating criminal...

New Apple iPad 2 ad is out; Foxconn to move some iPad production to Brazil by September

Posted on Jun 20, 2011 by MG3

According to Globo, Brazil's Minister of Science and Technology, Aloízio Mercadante, says that Foxconn will be starting production of the Apple iPad 2 in his country starting in September. Originally, production of the tablet was to have begun in July, but the date has been pushed back because of problems with construction of a facility and a lack of skilled labor. Foxconn sent 175 enginners to China for training, but needs to hire more than 200 before starting production of the device in Brazil.

Apple holding off on new Macs until Lion launch?

Apple holding off on new Macs until Lion launch?

Posted on Jun 17, 2011 by MG1

Apple may be eager enough to get Mac OS X Lion on new hardware that it's delaying new Macs until Lion's July release, tipsters maintained Thursday. The new MacBook Air is reportedly already set to go and is being held back only to flash them with Lion once the software is done. AppleInsider in getting the info also believed an upgraded Mac mini and a Thunderbolt-oriented LED Cinema Display were both waiting for the same treatment.
The only delays are likely to be triggered by Lion itself being pushed back.
