Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S available for pre-ordering in the UK
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungSony EricssonGALAXY NoteXperia arc S
Two newly announced Android smartphones, Samsung Galaxy Note and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, are already available for pre-ordering in the UK through Clove.
The online retailer asks 349.99 GBP (about $563) for Sony Ericsson’s baby, listing September 26th as the availability date. The device, which BTW is an upgrade of the original Xperia arc, can be pre-ordered in either midnight blue or pure white.
As for the Galaxy Note, the situation is completely different there. Clove has no clue when Sammy’s huge superphone will be available nor how much it will cost. They show a “speculative price” of 600 GBP without sharing any dates whatsoever. If that doesn’t bother you, and you also happen to have...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungEpic 4G Touch
Set to launch later this month, Sprint’s version of the Samsung GALAXY S II smartphone is now available for pre-order from popular cell phone retailer Wirefly. While the highly anticipated Samsung Epic 4G Touch is set to launch at $199.99 from Sprint, Wirefly is offering early adopters an unusual discount — a pre-payment of $149.99 will secure anxious GALAXY fans an Epic 4G Touch as soon as they become available in mid-September. Announced late last month at a Samsung press event, Sprint’s Epic 4G Touch features a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and compatibility with Sprint’s 4G...

Remember that mysterious Samsung slider, the SCH-i405, headed for Verizon that was pictured during the summer? Many Verizon customers had hoped that it would be a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II. Remember the Samsung Stratosphere that was listed on the Verizon roadmap we reported? Many thought that would be the Samsung Galaxy S II. Now that we know better, and the Samsung Galaxy S II is not coming to Big Red as we informed you, it turns out that Pocketnow has discovered that the mysterious slider is the Samsung Stratosphere.
To refresh your memory, the Stratosphere has a 4 inch screen with what appears to be a Super AMOLED Plus screen. 2GB of storage is aboard as is a 5MP rear camera an...

Samsung GT-i8350 to be no speed slouch
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungFocus Flash
In so far as we can trust WP Bench data (which is clearly not always the case) the Samsung GT i8350, which is believed to be the European successor to the Samsung Omnia 7, appears to be a pretty fast device, and significantly faster than the other new 1 Ghz Mango handsets like the Fujitsu IS12T or Acer M310/W4.
The Samsung GT-i8350 or Samsung Omnia W, with a 3.7 inch screen and 5 megapixel camera, is believed to be a relatively low-end handset, but maybe it has some surprises in store for us after all.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S is priced at $564 (£350) in the UK with a ship date of September 26th
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony EricssonXperia arc S
Surprisingly, UK retailer Clove Technology appears to be beating out expectations by bringing the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S to market much sooner than anticipated. When it was officially unveiled at IFA in Berlin last week, the refreshed Android powered smartphone was expected to hit shelves sometime in October.
Well, it appears that Clove UK plans on shipping out SIM-free units starting on September 26th – with a £350 ($564) price attached to it. With pre-orders for the handset available in either “pure white “ and “midnight blue” paint jobs, this handset will definitely turn some heads more with its upgraded hardware.
Specifically, it features a faster 1.4GHz single-core processor, which ...

THX certification might soon come to smartphones and tablets
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTablets
When a piece of audio gear – a multimedia receiver, audio amplifier or a home theater speaker system, carries the THX seal of approval, you know that you have something special on your hands. You know that the audio experience you are about to get from it is going to be superior to what a run-of-the-mill boombox can deliver. But does THX certification has its place among the ranks of smartphones and tablets?
Well, apparently, it does. Rick Dean, senior vice president of THX, revealed in an one-on-one briefing with Pocket-lint that the company is to start paying more and more attention to smartphones and tablets from now on. That sure makes sense as people are increasingly getting accustomed ...

iPhone 5 pre-orders now available at Deutsche Telekom
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Apple has yet to announce it’s fifth-generation smartphone, but that apparently won’t stop German carrier Deutsche Telekom from selling it. Bloomberg reported on Monday morning that it has confirmed with Deutsche Telekom that, beginning today, DT subscribers may begin reserving Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5 smartphone. The carrier will hand out coupons to customers who reserve the device, despite the fact that no confirmed details surrounding the next iPhone are available. Not even the name of the device is confirmed at this point. Apple is expected to launch a fifth-generation iPhone and an updated fourth-generation model some time next month. Invitations to a special media event at whic...

HTC Ruby found in the jungles of Thailand
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCAmaze 4G
Last month a blurry photo and a rough spec sheet for a device known as the HTC Ruby started circling around the internet. The Ruby was also said to be coming to the United States as the “Amaze 4G” on T-Mobile. Thanks to the Thai website Droid Sans, we now not only have clearer pictures of the Ruby, but confirmation that the absolutely ridiculous spec sheet we saw in August wasn’t just a fanboi’s wet dream, but indeed real. You’re looking at a device with a 4.3 inch screen that has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, a dual core 1.5 GHz processor that’s paired up with 1 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash, a forward facing 2 megapixel camera, and best of all support for 42 Mb...

Nokia 801 (or N8-01) makes its first cameo appearance, comes with an edge-to-edge screen
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA801
The Nokia 801 seems to be the latest leak in Nokia's pipeline. The device could have been called the Nokia N8-01 in Nokia’s previous naming routine, making it the successor to the company’s current flagship, the Nokia N8. And it’s got the stylish looks to prove it with a different form factor focused around an edge-to-edge qHD screen, if we are to link this model with the rumored about N8-01. How did we find out about it? The Nokia 801 video teaser was in the list of promo videos on a Nokia 700 device left over at a booth at IFA. We wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of this being just a concept, possibly to demo NFC, which somehow made it to the Nokia 700, but there are plenty of ...

Samsung: Galaxy Note hits Europe Q1 2012, US afterwards
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
Samsung has yet to officially announce Galaxy Note release dates, leading to some confusion yesterday, but the company’s execs were at least able to give SlashGear a window. When we met with Samsung earlier today to get a more in-depth fondle with some of the Note’s more interesting features, they told us that it’s expected to arrive in Q1 2012 in the UK (and presumably Europe).
US availability, meanwhile, will follow “later than that” though they couldn’t say exactly how much later. Given we’ve only just seen a US launch for the Samsung Galaxy S II, despite it having gone on sale in Europe in late April, it’s certainly imaginable that North American carriers could drag their heels out for s...

Acer W14 shows up at IFA
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAcerAllegro
AreaMobile.de has just stumbled across this new Acer Windows Phone 7 handset at IFA in Germany.
The Acer W14 is a 1 Ghz device with an unknown megapixel camera, 8 GB storage and 512 MB RAM running Windows Phone 7 Mango.
Obviously not a particularly high end device, I like that the phone does try to make some concession to style with its smoothly curved back.
No other detail of the handset is available, but I expect the handset should see some distribution in Asia soon.

Best Buy leak hints to an iPhone 5 launch with Sprint in October; pre-orders soon to be available

Even more good news headed to Sprint customers today, a recent Best Buy leak shows further credible proof that the number three wireless carrier in the country is potentially anticipating an iPhone 5 launch some time in October.
Even though the leak mentions that pre-sales are expected to go live starting in the first week of October, BGR’s source mentions that Best Buy retail stores and Best Buy Mobile standalone stores might start accepting them as soon as this week in fact. Plus, the source goes on to say that the phone might actually arrive in the first week of October.
And for all of those Sprint customers waiting patiently regarding the handset, the leak shows that Sprint will be inclu...
