Motorola PHOTON 4G gets minor update to fix Wi-Fi issues

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

This week, Sprint and Motorola have begun issuing another minor software update for the PHOTON 4G smartphone. The list of fixes in this update is rather short, with the only thing being mentioned are adjustments to Wi-Fi functionality. Users should get a notification when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed on their phones, or they can check the Software Updates section in the Settings app to see if it is available for download.

iPhone 5 jailbreak should be pretty easy

iPhone 5 jailbreak should be pretty easy

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

At today's MyGreatFest jailbreaking convention, master hacker P0sixninja announced that a jailbreak should be coming pretty quickly to the iPhone 5, in a far shorter amount of time than was necessary for the iPad 2 jailbreak. The good news is all thanks to the Chronic Dev Team, which has found 5 bootrom exploits in the A5 chip which powers both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5.
A reliable jailbreak proved hard to come by with the A5 and the iPad 2, because the bootrom is found inside the A5 chip and required a lot of hard work to reverse-engineer and find the exploits. That's why it ended up taking about 4 months to find a reliable jailbreak for the iPad 2. However, since then, the Chronic Dev T...

HTC Titan and HTC Radar expected to be available 4th October in Netherlands

HTC Titan and HTC Radar expected to be available 4th October in Netherlands

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 by MG1

The first of the next wave of Windows Phone 7.5 handsets is set to hit the west very soon, with the HTC Titan and HTC Radar expected to reach stores on the 4th of October, a mere 2 weeks from now, in the Netherlands.
The high-specced HTC Titan will be a steep 559 Euro at Smartphoneshop.nl and the more mid-range HTC Radar 369 Euro.
Having used an HTC Trophy for around a year now, and never feeling disadvantages compared to the HTC HD7, I do wonder if the HTC Titan is worth the extra expense over the HTC Radar. What do our readers think? Let us know below.

If you're somehow still not sure if this is for you there's always our review for an extra bit of convincing. Otherwise, just punch the source link, sit back, and wait for all the 4G WiMAX goodness Sprint can stuff into that 4.5-inch plastic shell.

China Mobile has already gotten a positive answer on a TD-LTE iPhone from Apple

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

China is one of the key markets for Apple - after all it has the most customers in the world and smartphone usage is booming. Cupertino has opened a couple of official Apple Stores in the country, there seem to be plenty of unofficial Apple retailers and now China Mobile, the world’s largest carrier, seems to be close to getting a deal bringing it a 4G TD-LTE version of the iPhone.
“China Mobile and Apple hope to find a solution for close collaboration,” China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou said in an interview. “We discussed this issue with Apple. We hope Apple will produce a new iPhone with TD-LTE. We have already got a positive answer from Apple.”
China Mobile currently doesn’t offer the i...

HTC Vigor leaks in first press shot

HTC Vigor leaks in first press shot

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

The first press shot of the much anticipated HTC Vigor has leaked. The handset has been rumored as HTC’s next flagship phone and could be one of the first to offer Beats Audio technology. This leak follows several others, including the press shot for the HTC Bliss as well as some spec sheets on the Bliss and the Runnymede. Perhaps more details will continue to surface as we get closer to HTC’s press event on September 20, when the company is expected to unveil these devices.
The HTC Vigor is believed to feature a 4.3-inch 720p HD display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and an 8-megapixel ...

Android-powered Motorola Admiral caught posing for the camera

Android-powered Motorola Admiral caught posing for the camera

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

We’ve already heard of the Motorola Admiral, though at that stage we didn’t have a clue how it will look like. Now we do, and as far as we can tell, it’s yet another QWERTY keyboard equipped candybar from Motorola. That said, we’re not sure another such device is needed in Sprint’s portfolio, considering they already offer the Motorola XPRT and Titanium. Guess the idea is to get some of the folks switching from BlackBerry to Android on board.
Anyway, you want to know the Admiral’s specs, right? It comes with a Qualcomm’s single-core 1.2GHz MSM8655 CPU, 3.1-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, CDMA-based Direct Connect capability, and a pretty soli...

Samsung Infuse 4G gets minor software update, no Gingerbread to be found

Samsung Infuse 4G gets minor software update, no Gingerbread to be found

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

AT&T is pushing a minor software update out to the Samsung Infuse 4G, though its not the one that users have been waiting for. Instead of upgrading the phone to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and hopefully a newer version of Samsung's TouchWiz interface, the update seems to just be a maintenance fix, and its difficult to tell what it actually offers. It could very well be an update to prepare the Infuse 4G for its promised Gingerbread upgrade, which is expected to arrive this fall. The update weighs in at about 14.5MB, and users can go to the About Phone section of the Settings app to download and install it.

4.8-inch Acer Iconia Smart finally hitting shelves

4.8-inch Acer Iconia Smart finally hitting shelves

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

You might remember the Acer Iconia Smart as the ultra-long handset that was the first to stun our minds with a 4.8-inch screen and a 21:9 aspect ratio. Now, in mere couple of months the smartphone display realities have changed and while we’re still impressed, we’re not necessarily stunned. The Iconia Smart has picked this exact time to finally hit shelves at UK online retailer Expansys, sporting a price tag of nearly $615 (389 pounds) off contract .
The phone has kept a low-profile but it’s been almost as long in the making as the Droid Bionic. The handset was introduced in February at MWC and that’s where we took it for a spin, so don’t hesitate to check our hands-on preview of the Acer I...

iPhone 5 to have radical new design according to Case-Mate images

iPhone 5 to have radical new design according to Case-Mate images

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

The iPhone 5 hasn’t been announced yet, but that has not stopped accessory makers from posting upcoming cases for the highly anticipated handset. Case-Mate has published a page on its website with six different case designs for the new iPhone 5, and we’re loving the radical new body shown in the images. We’ve heard tons of speculation that the iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than the current model and these cases suggest it will have tapered edges and a slim profile as well. Finally, the images appear to an aluminum back on the fifth-generation iPhone, which also jibes with earlier reports. The iPhone 5 is expected to be available in the United States in October, so we’re not surprised ...

Samsung Epic 4G Touch user manual leaks, offering 150 pages of glorious diagrams

It may not be available on Sprint until tomorrow, but the Samsung Epic 4G Touch's trusty literary companion has already made its way to our eyes (and hearts). The upcoming device doesn't hold quite as many secrets as it did merely a couple weeks ago, so perusing through over 150 pages of how-tos and FAQs may not be a tantalizing prospect unless you're dead set on purchasing the phone this weekend and want to be prepared to show it off to your pals at tomorrow night's soirée. Whatever your motivations, head to the source link to begin your adventure.

UK Deal: Orange offers Motorola Atrix for 99 GBP on a 10 GBP/month plan

UK Deal: Orange offers Motorola Atrix for 99 GBP on a 10 GBP/month plan

Posted on Sep 16, 2011 by MG1

The Motorola Atrix is no longer a cool device everyone wants, though it’s still pretty solid smartphone with a 1GHz dual-core processor, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, 4-inch qHD screen, 5-megapixel camera and so on. Orange UK is running a great deal, offering Moto’s baby for 99 GBP on a two-year 10 GBP per month contract. In other words, that’s 340 GBP for the life of the contract, making for an awesome purchase.
Of course you shouldn’t expect wonders with such a plan — it comes with only 30 minutes of talk time and unlimited texts. There’s also one additional caveat – Atrix ships with Android 2.2 Froyo and you’ll have to hack your way to Gingerbread if you want the latest features, or w...

HP Offers Refund to European Touchpad, Pre3 Buyers

HP Offers Refund to European Touchpad, Pre3 Buyers

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

The HP Touchpad's troubled saga continues: the company's European arm is now offering partial refunds to anyone who brought the tablet at anything other than the bargain-basement fire sale price. The refund is for the difference between that clearance price and the price that the buyer originally paid, and the same courtesy is also being extended to buyers of the Pre3 smartphone, which never made it to the US.
Some retailers, like Best Buy in the US, have already been offering similar partial refunds to anyone who bought the Touchpad before HP pulled the plug, but others (including Amazon) have referred unhappy buyers to HP itself. This gesture should help to ameliorate any remaining ill wil...

Sprint iPad on the way alongside iPhone 5?

Sprint iPad on the way alongside iPhone 5?

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

We know that the iPhone 5 should be coming to Sprint in October but the third-largest mobile operator may also be getting the Apple tablet to go along with it.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has prepared a 3G iPad which will be compatible with Sprint’s network. This is different than the Verizon 3G iPad but the report doesn’t mention whether there will be WiMax 4G support or not. I don’t picture Apple being the biggest fan of WiMax but I think that having 4G in an iPad could be a very cool thing.
The AT&T version has a 3G iPad but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next version have AT&T’s 4G. The issue is that having 4G on each network will require different radios and Apple generally doesn’t ...

ASA decrees iPhone 4 is thinner than Samsung Galaxy S II

ASA decrees iPhone 4 is thinner than Samsung Galaxy S II

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

For a while, the Samsung Galaxy S II supposedly claimed the title of world’s thinnest smartphone – thinner than even the iPhone 4. We all just assumed this was true but Apple knew the real truth and it continued to advertise the iPhone 4 with this title in commercials. So, the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a complaint on the matter and decided to step in to solve things once and for all.
Let’s get to the nitty-gritty: The iPhone 4 has a flat, uniform design, which means everywhere you look on the device is going to be exactly 9.3 mm. The Samsung Galaxy S II does not have a uniform design, particularly noticeable with the odd bulge on the bottom side. At its thinnest p...
