Samsung Galaxy R Announced - A Tegra 2 Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy R Announced - A Tegra 2 Smartphone

Posted on Aug 11, 2011 by MG3

Earlier this year while at MWC, Anand and I broke news of a Samsung Galaxy phone with Tegra 2 inside. At the time, we assumed it was a Galaxy S2 variant, the GT-I9103. At the time, the suspicion was that either Samsung was preparing a Tegra 2 variant in case Exynos yields weren't good enough, or that it was a cheaper regional variant for some markets. Since then, we've seen Galaxy S2's international launch come and go, with no Tegra 2 variant.

Samsung Hercules confirmed as a T-Mobile Galaxy S II variant

Samsung Hercules confirmed as a T-Mobile Galaxy S II variant

Posted on Aug 08, 2011 by MG1

The picture almost says it all: the Galaxy S II is coming to T-Mobile. Except it's slightly more complicated than that. According to TmoNews, you're actually looking at the back of the new Samsung Hercules -- a handset rumored to possess godly specs, which we already knew was heading to both T-Mo and Telus, and which is now confirmed as an honest-to-goodness Galaxy S II variant. It's similar to the original superphone in many respects, but it has a slightly larger 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen like the Infuse 4G, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor that's possibly a Qualcomm instead of Sammy's own Exynos, and a 42Mbps HSPA+ radio. The rounded corners of the back cover also look distinctly simil...

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II now available for Stateside use on AT&T and T-Mobile

Posted on Aug 08, 2011 by MG1

Want the Samsung Galaxy S II so badly that you can't wait for it to be offered by your carrier? Well, if you are an AT&T or T-Mobile customer and don't mind spending the money, an unlocked version of the phone offered right now by Newegg will let you use the pipelines belonging to the two GSM mobile operators (although AT&T users will have 3G only). The unit, available from the retailer for $649.99, has quad-band GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) and quad-band UMTS (850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100) connectivity. And for those Canadians who don't want to buy the phone from Virgin Mobile or Bell, Newegg Canada is offering an unlocked model for the same price.
Besides having to pay an unsubsidized price fo...

Samsung Galaxy S II users in Brazil and Poland get Android 2.3.4 update

Posted on Aug 08, 2011 by MG1

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 2.3.4 update for its super-popular Galaxy S II smartphone. The first two countries to get it are Poland and Brazil where the XXKG5 and UHKG7 updates are available on Kies for users using the device with Polish (XEO) and Brazilian (TTT) CSC respectively.
We’ve no idea what’s all included with this release but can guess some of the known bugs will be fixed, some other things improved, few apps updated, while also the overall stability of the smartphone has been increased . If you happen to be in the “affected group” and notice some changes, please don’t hesitate to drop us a comment in the form below.
As usual we advise you to backup all your data, i...

Verizon retiring the Samsung Fascinate

Verizon retiring the Samsung Fascinate

Posted on Aug 04, 2011 by MG1

The Samsung Fascinate has apparently reached End of Life with Verizon, as it has a telling stamp "Retired" on the listing, and has disappeared from the online store.

Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S version that was the Fascinate was one of the best Android handsets you can get on Big Red at the time it hit shelves last year. It had a good run, if we don't count some bugs and the belated Froyo update, plus it is expected to receive Gingerbread as well, but now it has to move over and hail a new king.
Hopefully this Samsung Fascinate retirement only means that the Samsung Galaxy S II version for Verizon is nearing its announcement and launch. We've heard rumors about the handset being called bot...

Posted on Aug 04, 2011 by MG1

If you’re: a) living or working in the UK; b) love or have nothing against Three or Vodafone; and c) want to buy yourself a new Android smartphone – we suggest you to wait a bit. The reason, you ask? The white version of the Samsung Galaxy S II is coming to Three and Vodafone in September. That’s like a month from now but it is well worth the wait. Actually that depends whether you really like love the Galaxy S II as much as we do. The white version looks even better and will definitely help you stand out in the crowd — not only will you have the Android smartphone everyone wants, but it will also come in white which is a rarity. So what do you say? Are willing to wait that long? Or the blac...

Are Sprint's employees getting the lowdown on the Samsung Conquer 4G?

Are Sprint's employees getting the lowdown on the Samsung Conquer 4G?

Posted on Aug 03, 2011 by MG1

There's a long-anticipated Samsung handset with 4G which has Sprint employees hitting the training manuals. Nope, not that one. It's the Conquer 4G, a midrange Android phone that's finally receiving attention after weeks of obscurity. AndroidCentral uncovered an image of a PowerPoint training presentation that offers only a few new specs: we already knew about the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Gingerbread, 3.5-inch display, and dual cameras with LED flash, but the slide seemingly confirms it'll also have Sprint Mobile Wallet, Swype, and Sprint ID included. Again, we don't have much to go off of here, but the slide -- if genuine -- is a solid clue that we may be seeing the shy guy again...

Samsung Droid Charge is priced affordably at $99.99 through Amazon

Samsung Droid Charge is priced affordably at $99.99 through Amazon

Posted on Aug 01, 2011 by MG1

Being the costliest of the big three 4G LTE smartphones right now, one has to seriously dish out some dough to experience all of the joyous wonders available with the Samsung Droid Charge. Yet, its $299.99 on-contract price point might scare away some people from picking one up.
Luckily, that’s where Amazon comes to the rescue – yet again of course! Previously, we’ve seen the online retailer drop the handset’s price to a very reasonable $179.99 for anyone looking to start a brand new line of service with the carrier. This time however, they’re one-upping themselves by now pricing it at an even more remarkable $99.99, which is rather aggressive to tell you the truth.
Nevertheless, we’re certa...

Samsung Galaxy S II in white looks legit; Coming in late August?

Samsung Galaxy S II in white looks legit; Coming in late August?

Posted on Aug 01, 2011 by MG1

We’re not sure whether we should believe the image above is legit or not. We want to believe and think it makes perfect sense for Samsung to offer the white version of its super-popular Android smartphone to reach even more users. However, aside from that image, we also have another one that looks a bit different. Both of them come from phone retailers, Digitec and Mobilefun, and we’re not sure which one’s official and which one is a Photoshop mockup.
Anyway, we’re hearing the white Samsung Galaxy S II will be released at some point in late August. I’m sure it will sell like crazy with those who haven’t grabbed the original unit because it’s “too black,” going for this one. That’s presuming ...
