Leaked S Voice app working again on non-Samsung phones

Leaked S Voice app working again on non-Samsung phones

Posted on May 29, 2012 by MG3

Days after Samsung confirmed to us that it was restricting use of its S Voice app on handsets other than the Galaxy S III, the service appears to be working again. At least on our Sharp Aquos Phone that we've been testing S Voice on from the beginning, normal service has been resumed and the app is performing as well as it ever did. After Samsung initially blocked the service, some enterprising modders managed to alter the APK to get it back up and running again, but we haven't done anything other than install the file that originally leaked.

The personal assistant for Android known as Samsung S-Voice has been released on the Galaxy S III smartphone and has been hacked and distributed to the public at the same time. This application works much in the same way as the Galaxy S II voice assistant did when it was released last year and is now being called an Apple Siri-rival due to the relative popularity of that system. Here you’ll be able to download the application and install it on any Android device capable of running it.

Samsung registers Galaxy Rush, Amp and Helm names

Samsung registers Galaxy Rush, Amp and Helm names

Posted on May 29, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: Cell PhonesSamsung

Samsung has laid a claim to three new potential phone names, registering Galaxy Rush, Galaxy Amp and Galaxy Helm with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The three new trademarks were filed on May 21 and listed as 'mobile telephones; smartphones' so there's a good chance they're intended for phones of some kind.
Does that mean we'll be seeing the Samsung Galaxy Rush replace the Samsung Galaxy S3? Will the Samsung Galaxy Amp be the company's Beats-beater? Can anyone really face going into a shop and asking for a Samsung Galaxy Helm?

While we're no champions at "pin the tail on the donkey" we're pretty sure we're close to the mark with this one. An FCC report for a new Samsung phone bearing an SGH-I747 model number? Sporting HSPA+ and LTE bands that play nice with AT&T, Rogers, Telus and Bell? While it's not explicit, if this doesn't sound like the GSIII coming to town, we don't know what does. After all, it's not like we didn't know it was on its way.

While Samsung's Galaxy Ace Duos has already burst onto the scene in India pulling double duty on GSM and CDMA networks, the company today announced its dual-SIM GSM-only cousin will begin shipping in June in Russia, before rolling out to Europe and other regions later. Running Android 2.3 on an 832MHz processor and flashing a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, that dual-SIM capability is the highlight, with Samsung's "Dual SIM always on" feature that forwards calls from the phone number on SIM 2, even if the user is on a call through SIM 1. BGR called for the death of the “phablet” this past February when we reviewed Samsung’s mammoth Galaxy Note, but the market has spoken loud and clear. End-user sales of Samsung’s first true smartphone-tablet hybrid topped 5 million units within about five months, placing Samsung well on its way to achieving the company’s goal of selling 10 million units in 2012.
